The bar is part of the hotel/restaurant but stands as an entity in its own right. Well kept beers from mainly local Brewers, including Barngates. Real fire to warm and dry you . Staff are friendly. Food is excellent and can be eaten in the restaurant if you want or if it is busy. Try the pie! A must for any visit to the area. It is about 15 minutes walk from Ambleside

Nice enough place - most if it is for gorgers of food but the area closer the bar was more drinker friendly though you do share it with a number of badgers (stuffed and otherwise) Beer was good and the buses to Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick stop near enough outside.

Another tick in the area for me from the 2015 GBG following a short bus ride from Windermere.
Right on the main Kendal to Keswick road. A welcoming bar area awaits you as you enter.
5 ales on the hand pumps with my choice of Old School Brewery Badger Bar Ale @ 3.8% brewed exclusively for the bar & very drinkable.
Wonky floors and an amazing room to the left of the bar that has to be seen to be believed, anyone that's been here will know what I mean.
No fruit machines or televisions just a quality little bar.
I only had time for 1 beer but a good tick anyway.

Decent country inn overlooking Rydal on the road between Ambleside and Grasmere, 3/4 well kept cask ales.

Passed on here and on the way from Grasmere to Ambleside. Didn't look anything special from the outside being attached to the hotel but do not let this deceive you. Great choice of local ales on pump and bottles from the Winster Brewery available in bottles to drink in our take out. V friendly with discount for CAMRA members.

This is a bar that you must try if you get the chance whilst in the Lakes! There are some fantastic walks on the doorstep for all abilities and on a good bus route to Ambleside, Keswick, Windermere, etc.!! It is such a great bar I took 5 of my mates there on 12 January 2013 after a day on the fells and they was not disapointed!! The ale selection was great and just as important the bar staff were very friendly and wanted to talk to you if you wanted to try a beer before buying one!! The staff appeared to be proud of their bar and was very happy when I told them how good we thought the bar was - you don't always get this kind of reception in a lot of pubs / bars in the Lakes!! We didn't have fod, but it did look good!! Can't wait to go back!

another quality lakes pub. 4 very well kept local ales. very friendly welcome. nice real fire too.

4 (possibly more) cask ales on, all from local microbreweries. the two I had weere both in excellent condition, nudging 10/10.

I popped in for a mid afternoon post walk beer at the end of the February half term holiday. The two tooms were both quite quiet (except for the half term children) but there were three local beers (from Keswick, Ennerdale and Barngates) in good condition. Had it been a bit warmer I'd probably have sat outside in the shabby but pleasant garden area (which isn't particularly spoiled by its roadside location).

Just spent three nights in this hotel. Now under new management and 2006 comments seem a thing of the past. Beer was excellent with three real ales always on (incl. Hawkshead, Coniston, Black Sheep, Barngates), food was fresh cooked and reasonably priced, rooms still quirky which is nice, Badger feeding is fascinating. Only downside is the main road location.

Had an excellent dinner here with very nice beer. Very friendly staff and lovely location.

The bar was indeed was v. nice but v. smoky too. It's an OK place to stop off for a pint, but I'm afraid the hotel itself was very disappointing - no late drinking for residents; also a 45 minute "window" for breakfast? At 75 a night for a room!

I'll agree with the last comment. Great local ales like Coniston Bluebird, and a lovely little afternoon suntrap garden too. Only disadvantage is the proximity to the A591 and the constant holiday traffic.

The Badger Bar is a hotel bar open to all. It is in a beautiful location near Rydal Water, about a mile from Ambleside. There are always several real ales on, including local beers from Jennings and Coniston breweries. These change regularly and are beautifully kept. The food is also good and the bar staff are some of the friendliest you'll come across. If you're in the area, don't miss this place!
