Returned to The Castle, had another amazing meal. Its so nice to find a traditional family run pub. We always meet up with friends here and we love it. The food is home cooked and always excellent, and the local ale is great. We can't wait to come back. Thank you once again

21 of my colleagues and I booked a table for lunch at this pub. Everyone enjoyed their lunch with the exception of 2 of us who ordered the same - a prawn baguette wih Marie Rose sauce. If you visit this pub, don't order this from the menu! Watery prawns, soggy bread and when I dared to complain and speak to the landlady, she shouted at me to go to the bar and get a 1 refund (it cost me 5.95) and said she wouldn't discuss it with me any longer and stormed off! Not a good attitude to customer service given that this is her business.

Not too impressed with the service (obviously). Have eaten here many times before and always enjoyed it. I'm sure it could be a lovely pub again, under different management.

Popped in for lunch on Sunday. Decent sized car park and welcoming Landlord(?). Had some tables reserved for diners, but a couple free and the bar area section was not reserved.

London Pride and Black sheep on, but third guest ale(?) pump empty. Believe they stock West Barkshire brews sometimes. The Black sheep was good tho.
The food was nice with a small, but interesting menu. When was the last time you saw faggots served in a pub?.

We returned last Friday, it was sooo busy!
Had another great meal, the steak & kidney pudding is out of this world and the homemade cheesecake was yummy.
Coming back for my birthday!

Visited this pub last week, and had a great evening. The atmosphere was great, the place is now run by a family who have only recently taken over. The food is home cooked and delicious. We will definately be going back

Food must have improved a lot. We had a party of 8 in there last night, and apart from a chewy steak everyone was happy. Couple of decent ales. The only problem was it was so quiet, we were the only ones there from 6 until 7.30 when a few more people arrived. Hopefully this will get better as word gets around because it seems like a decent pub.

Food awful. Unable to cope with a pre-ordered party. Not only did my partner not receive his starter then being fobbed off with garlic bread (which had no garlic and I can only describe as posh toast) My main course was cold! And the replacement not much better. I would complain and request a free meal. But to be honest I would rather go and get a macdonalds for a few quid rather than pay the ridiculous price of a meal that is not edible!

Went here one evening recently with some collesagues. When we arrived we went to the bar and stood there for a good few minutes in which time no staff appeared at all. In the end we called the pub on a mobile and got the bar's phone to ring out to attract some staff attention. The beer, once it was delivered was pretty decent - a few real ales in reasonable nick and the non-real ale drinkers were all happy enough with their drinks too. The big down-side was the food - absolutely awful, between the 7 of us we had a good range from the menu so we weren't let down by one dish - every single one was poor. The fish was like some hideous findus frozen food item, the lamb was gristley and over-fatty, every dish we ordered was bad one way or another. After the food we went to use the pool table.... another very odd bit of the pub, crushed into a very small corner where the pool cues could only be used if they were sawn down to a third of their original size.... the ridiculous thing is that there is acres of space in this pub, not used by diners (presumably because the food is so bad), where the pool table could be put to much better use. Overall, a pub that would be great as a drinker's pub (the back garden is lovely) but as a predominantly foodie pub, its awful. The owners need to think about what market they are aiming at and change their direction one way or ther other.

Fantastic selection of both lagers and real ales. Great wine and champagne list accompanies an extensive menu. Great quality food and drink !!!!
