Been here a few times now, but never got around to reviewing it before. Well if you want somewhere to go that is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the busy city centre outside, then this is the place for you ! Of course there is a downside as well ...
The pub is long(ish) and thin. Seating ranges from comfy sofas by the door, through chairs and tables to a couple of long benches at the rear. [ These are to cater for when they occasionally have major sporting events shown on the rear wall ] Decoration consists of posters and murals on the walls.
Beer is from Station House brewery of Oswestry. On my latest visit there were two pumps in use, but there are 4 in total and I have seen them all being used on occasion. I tried the Station Butter, which was OK, but nothing inspiring. A comment that could apply to every beer I’ve drunk here ...
5/10 – there are far better pubs in the vicinity.

Not a bad pub with Stonehouse beers in Chester city centre. The exterior is attractive, whilst the interor is simple. Beers on were Sunlander, Station Bitter, Cambrian Gold & Off The Rails. The fizzy "pear cider" on offer was from Briska. The beers were nothing special. Toilets were very dark.

Stopped in here for a drink early evening on the way to a restaurant and had a couple of decent beers from the Stonehouse Brewery. Quite a rustic, olde world feel with random nick nacks around the place - not the poshest pub ever but I liked the laid back atmosphere and friendly bar staff. We went back in a 2nd time that night after our meal and it was a bit more lively - again good atmosphere and we sampled a couple of whiskies from the large selection they have on offer! Would go back next time we're in Chester.

This place appealed from the outside with its historic appearance. But once inside it was so basic to the point of it looking like a doss house!
Only redeeming feature was the original till.
AVOID!

A total shithole, in fact so fucking awful, your humble narrator could not finish his pint. Death comes to all of us, this pub only hastens the process.

Appeared shut at 12:15 today, and festooned with notices saying that the 'premises licence' was being reviewed because of complaints mostly about noise from customers leaving late in the evening and causing disturbance to sleepers in the hotel nearby. What next?

I think grizzlygus must have been in a different pub.
I was here a few weeks ago and the pub is still as wonderful as when I first visited a couple of years ago.
The toilets even had bog roll, the cubicle door locked, it had running water and the hand drier works. What else do you want?
My pint of Stonehouse Cambrian Gold was spot on too.

Visited a couple of weekends ago. Stripped back and laid back - a good place to relax and to drink the excellent Stonehouse beers. Will be back!
|
Went in here in January, it was freezing cold inside, the toilets are a disgrace and the pub is a dump compared to what it was 20 years ago. Wont be back

Second visit to this pub in as many years. Was as quite as it was last time I visited and the pint of Stonehouse Off The Rails that I had was also as good as it was last time.
For a city centre pub right next to the main shopping area this is a hidden gem. It started to fill up with more people by the time I left. This is the sort of pub that I wouldn't mind having as my local!

Good Stonehouse beers (4) and a range of Belgian bottles also.

Stumbled on this pub by mistake & am so glad I did. A small, narrow single room pub with bench seats, stone floor & generally a rustic feel. 4 handpumps from Stonehouse Brewery. Found the clientele to be mixed & fairly friendly.

Excellent Pub and Best all nite venue for people who work within the trade if you want the Best in beers, wine and spirits , and fantastic entertainment run by true profesionals its the place to be. Most friendly in the area. If you want rough and poor quality theres always the worst late nite pub dirty and rough and known localy as slumbs they let anyone in even those who have nothing to do with the trade we are told.

Excellent pub atmosphere for the lovers of live music... Beer pretty fine too! Only fly in the ointment was the appaling practice of having a doorman charging a 1 entrance to line his own pockets. Don't let this put you off - bring it to the attention of the management.

Pubs don't get better than this. Went in on a saturday afternoon. 4 excellently served real ales from a local brewery, stonehouse I think. The Barman knew his stuff and was able to explain the differences between. He produced tasters of the beers (without prompting) after offering his educated recommendations. Good selection of Whiskeys on offer had a 15 year old Bourbon which was expensive but worth it. Nice atmosphere background music at the right level so that you could hold a conversation. Probably the best pub and barman I've visited this year.

Another pub I came across whilst out and about in Chester yesterday. As mentioned in previous comments, it's just one narrow room with two huge display barrels on either side as you walk in and the bar is on the right. It served one of my all time faves - Stonehouse Station Bitter - so I had 2 pints of that which were excellent. Pub was quiet when i visited and music by Frank Sinatra and Dusty Spribngfield was on the sound system. Perhaps not the best pub in Chester but it's not the worst either. I may call again.

Not been in since a few years back, alot has changed. Did not like the refurb the new owners have done, hardly anything on the walls etc. Tables and chairs seem to be like outdoor furniture. They have stopped serving food and extended the ladies toilets which resulted in the kitchen being removed, seems an odd idea. Overall would not go back due to the fact there is not alot to go for.

Decent enough understated pub, and very handy for the main shopping area. Beer well kept.

I enjoyed this pub. Had a pint of Stonehouse brewery Off the Rails for 2.50 served by a cheery barmaid. Will definately come here again when I next visit Chester.
|
Pleasantly understated little pub just off Chester's main drag. Nothing remarkable, but that works in its favour as it definitely has more (mature) locals in than tourists, but the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Just the one small, narrow room with a bar, and a couple of real ales were available on my visit. Not the best in the city but certainly not the worst.

Lovley little pub, great staff, weird landlord and landlady.
|
Was queer some time back, but thay have left for good.Small but ok.
|
What a nice little pub. Good range of cask ales and music on the juke-box. Staff are friendly and the customer service is prompt.
Landlady's gorgeous and I'll sure be going back for a drink or two!

Narrow pub, next door to the Blossoms Hotel. End.
|
Bit rough and ready, but a nice small inn, handy if you're staying at the Blossoms hotel. Friendly staff and decent beer.
