If you are of a certain age group (like me) you will remember this pub as The Gluepot. When I attended the school across the road , Central Foundation in the 1970's me and my friends would drink here at lunchtimes, but the guvnor would always insist that we took our blazers, and ties off. When I walked past this pub about 2 years ago I was pleased to see that the pub still had the seventies décor. Now of course with the advent of Silicon Roundabout, Old Street will become the new Covent Garden................yeah right !!!!

Passed today. Re-opened under new name and new image. Wasn't the greatest of pubs but it was a pub nonetheless. Now a wine bar type place.

went past it this morning its now closed

Very Expensive for what you get!! £4 a pint, Must be the most expensive in the area

In a way this pub is refreshing considering the frankly ridiculous alternatives in the vicinity. I found the staff friendly and the guvner too. They have a couple of ales on tap and the location is convenient. Best of all its one of the only pubs in the area for watching all the football games- they have an extensive satellite connection. Good place to while away a Saturday afternoon.

Bit of an enigma this pub. Situated right next to Old Street but thankfully it hasn't succumbed to the changing of some bars in the neighbourhood taking place round there these days. That said it could do with a bit of a refurb in that in looks straight out of the 80s in terms of look and could be a bit fresher Think it does see itself as a local pub & if I honest I had a good time whilst there and the atmosphere was friendly. Had lagers and they were ok with staff pleasant rather than friendly. If nothing else made from a change from the general uppity feel that some places in Shoreditch & Hoxton carry these days

Even the presence at the far end of the place of a Thai 'caff' hasn't altered the interior much of this place since it's old incarnarion as the Gluepot. Has an 'estate' feel to it (and indeed there is an estate behind the place) and accordingly, as everyone else in the place was drinking lager, I avoided the three ales that were on as I could only envisage myself embroiled in an argument about thier palatability. Wasn't many in but I don't thing it ever has been full (three of us doubled the numbers for their new year's eve party once in the Gluepot days). There is a Slush machine on the bar and notices say you can have your slush 'with or without alcohol'. In it's favour it is a place of calm away from the manic traffic hurtling round the Old Street roundabout and it does feel a bit like going back to a 70's pub - almost expect them to still be selling Tartan Bitter.

Uninspiring pub, just a couple of minutes walk from Old Street station. Very much targeted at local residents rather than the nearby offices, there is an atmosphere which may best be described as 'boisterous' (and which certainly won't be to everybody's taste). Three real ales on - Pride, Deuchars IPA and TT Landlord - but if my pint is anything to go by, this is one too many for the level of custom as it was on the turn (and woefully overpriced at 3.30). Plenty of screens for the footy, pool table and a thai food menu which certainly seems much more reasonably priced than the beer. Also has a wine list, but it really doesn't seem to be that sort of place.

Popped back in here for a couple on New Years Day - 3.50 for a pint of Strongbow - I thought they were having a laugh and then realised it wasn't that funny!

Modelled on a small town pub from the 1980s, complete with surly staff and smelly carpet

Concur with Strongers, an unremarkable single bar pub convenient for Old Street station. But another example where the number of flat screen teles available outnumber the number of real ale handpumps. For the record these were London Pride and Deuchars IPA on the evening of my visit and initially I wasnt going to bother trying, as you can catch these in most other local places, and I wasnt interested in watching the Mancs in the Champions league. But then I noticed that this pub must be in some dire straights financially, because the Landlord has to resort to covering blemishes and stains on the walls with old used football shirts that have been scribbled on by foreign mercenary footballers who now ply their trade in North London for large salaries without contributing to the winning any trophies by the club for the last five years. Therefore I felt obliged to stay for one and hope that my contribution to the pub profits, however small, may enable the Landlord to get rid of those old rags and decorate the walls with something more tasteful.

I was unfortunate with my timing whilst visiting this place for the first time as I walked in as the governor was ejecting some nutcase. After a few expletives from the undesirable normal business resumed and I got the feeling that the locals had seen it all before and were immune to the threatening ramblings of the Old Street crazies.
The pub itself is fairly unremarkable, although there is a pool table and a couple of plasma screens and TVs for the sports. The music from the jukebox was set at a good level and the barmaid was friendly enough. The Deuchars was good and Pride was also available along with Hoegarden and a selection of standard lagers.
This place is ok for the area and there are worse pubs nearby, but I still cant see myself returning in a hurry.

Not too bad - aimed at the more basic clientele but none the less not unpleasant - a couple of real ales available and good service.

Rude management! Went there for a lunch-time meal with 6 friends. After ordering food and drinks, I requested a glass of tap water (as I am not drinking alcohol at the moment). Bar staff said they wouldn't give it to me, and female management (sitting at the end of the bar) told me that if I wanted water, I could buy it for 1 a bottle. Also, toilets were run down... no lock on the doors and there was a smashed glass pane in the middle of one! Wouldn't go there again!

Used to visit here a lot but last night was the first time for ages. Only saw GK IPA on. Long bar area with a pool table at the left hand end.
Bizarrely enough we used to meet in here before going to the Wenlock for the Thursday quiz. Didn't take too long to realise we may as well cut out this place.

Great pub with good food and the warm staff make it a great night out. If your an Arsenal supporter you will indeed love it.

This modern estate pub is comfortable enough but is hardly a place that oozes character. The interior is fairly uninspiring with the usual run of games machines, pool table, juke box and a couple of Gooner shirts on display. The basic but reasonably priced beers (London Pride / Green King IPA) were quite well kept but I was rather put off by the local punters whose loud and limited vocabulary was matched only by the staff. The Thai kitchen is reasonably priced although the Cocktail menu would probably be of more interest to the Obscene Publication Squad. Overall a rather common and functional pub geared to the younger football and pool brigade. There is little else around here to attract outsiders so I wouldnt recommend making a specific trip.

A friendly pub with well kept real ale and a good value wine list. Thai food served lunch time and evenings or for a good nibble try the prawn crackers at 1 for a large bag.
|
Very decent pub
Maybe limited ale selection but at least it has IPA, a decent one... Thai window at the back makes a unique touch. Had a meal and it was very decent food. Staff friendly, with a pool table and jukebox to add to differing taste. Nice on a chilled out evening, don't know what is like on a busy evening. But would return...

Modern pub on the busy road just by Old Street roundabout. Decent beer, friendly staff, interesting menu including numerous yummy Thai selections. A bit bright and noisy, with numerous TVs, juke box and pool teams all competing to be heard, but all-in-all better than it may look from outside. Try It.

Us 3 Jocks stayed at The Holiday Inn Express just along the road over New Year weekend, made to feel very welcome by the staff, popped in a couple of times over the weekend, had a good night on New Years Eve as far as I can remeber!

Standard no thrills pub just off Old Street. Video juke box, 2 ales : Pride and Greene King IPA. Staff seem ok as do mixed crowd on Saturday night. All ok, not worth seeking out though.
