CLOSED

This friendly, traditional, two-bar local sadly closed in November 2013, and like the Queens Head opposite will be converted to residential use. The residents will be Jim and Pam, the erstwhile landlords. So, in the last three years Colney Heath has lost two of its four pubs.

With the pub opposite closed, I'd have thought they'd take that as warning of the current situation in the licenced trade. Plainly not. Went in the other evening, and waited for the barman / landlord to finish serving customers in the other bar. He even came through to the bar I was in to get a bottle. On finishing serving the other customers he sat down on his stool with his back to me. I coughed to try to gain his attention. No response.
Unsurprisingly I walked out. Obviously this is a drinking club for locals only.

The only pub we found closed on our Easter Sunday afternoon. We returned in the evening to find a friendly welcome in a homely bar. The landlady has apparently run this pub for 50 years. Her husband had been there nearly that long. Regular beers on were Tetleys Bitter, Wadworth 6X & Greene King IPA. The guest was Batemans XXXB. Worth a visit.

Very nice country pub, seemed popular with cyclists. I forget what beers were on but the guest beer I had was very nice. Locals very friendly.

Nice enough pub with a traditional seperate bar & lounge which is nice to see instead of the usual all knocked in to one affairs (Bar for the boys and lounge for the slightly more 'posh' folk). Three beers on - Tetleys, Wadworth 6X and a guest Green Mist. Not being a Tetley fan I went for the Mist which was drinkable enough. Somewhere I would drop in to again when in the vicinity.

Friendly pub. We cycled up about 10 mins before they shut on Sunday afternoon, but after serving us they said they would leave the side door open so the girls could use the loo. Proper "Northern style" pint of Tetleys too. Another one added to my bicycle pub crawl.....

Beautifully tended flower garden adds to the lovely welcome from the friendly regs & locals in this tiny village pub. Situated in a chocolate box situ, we stopped just for one drink on the way through, but we'll definitely be back!
