A long walk from the centre of Lichfield but worth it. Good beer, a nice outside area, and very tidy inside.

Understand that it has been refurbished recently and is now renamed "The Owl".

Under new management.......... All new and improved, food was superb, would highly suggest taking a visit. BBQ ribs all the way!!

You will see from previous comments that this pub/brasserie has undergone a refurb. We live within walking, distance and a few weeks back my wife and I had a drink there. It seemed pleasant enough with a trendy interior. Tonight, 11/11/09 my wife and I returned to try the restaurant out, I had steak which was OK my wife had medallions of pork sourced locally from Packington. Had to send it back because it was totally overcooked and dry. They did offer another meal which my wife accepted and was OK. Although by this time we could not eat together. The big problem though was with the toilets. The urinals were blocked and literally overflowing urine onto the floor. This was an existing problem as there was a sign saying beware wet floor. This meant that urine was then being trodden into the restaurant by all males visiting the toilet. I complained to the manager who confirmed this. So why were the toilets not closed. This was definately a health and safety issue. I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!

I dined at this establishment last week and I must say I thought it stupendous. The decor is modern and contemporary with an oldish elegance. My family and I all dined and found the food to be of the highest standard. Delicately positioned on the plate with beautiful taste to follow, it really was a treat for the eyes aswell as the tastebuds. The dessert, typically renound for ending the meal just left me craving for more. Needless to say I recommend this pub and I shall definitely be frequented the establishment again!!

As this was reopened since my last visit, the food is now fantastic. Like the nearby Wittington Arms, it has pitched it's food above the surrounding Pubs. It's not cheap, but it is worth every penny.

Quite like the decor after the refurb and was hoping for great things. Unfortunately the "chef" has no idea how to cook steak. Not recommended.

Visited this upgraded pub on 26/07/09 for a birthday meal. Couldn't fault the staff but one of the main dishes left a lot to be desired. My husband ordered the lamb roast and it was so fatty it was almost inedible. On mentioning this to the waitress she told us that there had been a lot of complaints during the day. If i were the manager I would have apologised for the standard of the meal and offered maybe a free drink or a sweet. Needless to say we will not be returning as I expect none of the other complainees will.

Again, its been years since i visited this place - it was just a pub back then. The light rendered brick building shows the fact the pub had pedigree, though there is now a conservatory added to the back to make it look for upmarket. There are a few model sheep on a low roof and the place has a beer garden area. The car park needs a little attention.
The place is much more an eatery now, having the sofa, plain walled, trendy interior that lacks a little something for someone like me - others of course will love it. I didnt eat and the price of the drinks was a little steep, but the service was excellent - with samples provided.
Beer wise; not really much of the usual fizz, the lager stuff looked more exotic! Three handpulls, with a really good drop of Black Sheep, and two beers from the Quartz Brewery in Kings Bromley, which i sampled; Blonde and Heart. Heart seemed fine.
Come to eat, or drink, its a nice enough place, just a little souless in its interior for me

After a major refurbishment The Shoulder of Mutton is opening on the 23rd June as a destination food pub serving fresh local produce. Email brendon001@btconnect for further development details.

Currently closed as are a lot of pubs.

visited here a couple of times now. decent beer but a little pricey for the area. service is poor though, as if they're doing you a favour... food is also disappointing. comfortable interior with plenty of space and light...
so a 6 then....

Trying too hard to be cool....odd mixture of folks, couples on a first date...the old King Eddies boys reliving their youth...huge and temting menu, but food not special, little details missing and service poor - good beer though.

Large out of town eatery, but it has the redeeming feature of serving excellent ale. Tim Taylor's Landlord, Lichfield Brewery's latest offering and Adnams bitter. Can't say I like the decor, since when have pubs needed settees and chromium planters? On the whole though a pleasant roomy building with a large outdoor drinking space for those lovely summer evenings..haha.

My fiancee and I stopped off for a meal on Saturday evening (22/04/06). We ordered tagliatelli with chiorizo and a pint and half of Lichfield ale. Very nice fresh bread with an olive oil dip was provided before the main meal. A waitress delivered the tagliatelli dish and warned us that the plates were very hot. She was right - as was the tagliatelli - it was baked. I regret now that I didn't return it but instead, as I didn't want to make a fuss and we were on our way back home to Birmingham, we ate it. I don't know how the meal had been heated but the pasta was very dry on top but was more moist beneath the 'crusty' surface. The sauce was very rich in tomato - too much so but the mushrooms within it were nicely cooked. I ordered a further two halves of bitter and we finished our meal. Before we could start however I had to ask for a couple of spoons to replace the knives which had been provided! Sadly there was no parmesan cheese. When the waitress asked how the meal was I told her 'very dry and baked'. She said that she was sorry to hear that and walked away. On receiving the bill we were charged for two pints of beer, not a pint and two halves as we should have been - the mistake was rectified. We quickly paid up and left never to venture into the pup again.
Needless to say we thought the meal vastly over-priced at 8.95

I liked the Shoulder of Mutton, we went one Sunday, not many ppl in and we sat in the conservatory, the only ones there! The food was really good, and my starter had all my favourite flavours, I picked well! The main room has lovely big sofas inviting you to plump yourself down and relax, it's a bit more difficult getting up cos some of them are low lol! All in all we had a lovely afternoon with good food reasonably priced

Nice pub, with excellent food and good selection of foreign bottled beers. Can sit in relaxed pub atmosphere or more formal conservatory. Attractive, friendly surroundings, big sofa's, pool table and board games. A little out of the city centre but well worth the extra mile!

The Shoulder is a great place to enjoy an evening with friends. The beer range is comprehensive and the food is typical gastropub style. The owners(Elephant Pub Co.) have 2 other pubs in the area that offer similar great food and come highly reccomended. They are The Railway Inn,Shenstone and The Butlers Arms in Four Oaks,Sutton Coldfield.
