Visited the Beer Festival this weekend. A fantastic selection of ales. Good choice from this well run pub. Good fun. My favourite ale was CItrus Temptation closely followed by Lemon Dream

JimSue & Ronrussell - if you can make money for the pub to suvive by selling Beer for less than �3.20 a pint and buy it from the PubCo's at the prices they charge you - then I am sure Dan & Cathy would love to hear how and reduce their prices. No didn't think so!!!!!! Don't moan about things you know nothing about!!!! Rant over

Irrespective of the 2 previous comments before, I have been to the pub on numerous occasions and never seen/heard a single bad remark about the pub. Yes, the pub has recently put it's prices up, but surely mr... "RonJussell" I can only assume you use the pub at certain times of the day and have seen a one off unfortunate event. �3.20 is truly acceptable for a pint of ale, regardless of ABV, I have worked in breweries, and one can only assume that you are unaware of the prices that pubs are being charged these days. I worked for a well known brewery in Cornwall, and our lowest ABV Real ale was one of the most expensive to buy!! ABV is irrelevant in MOST cases. If you want to buy a pint of cheap Real Ale, go to Wetherspoons. People should support their local and if they are busy, don't whine and moan, encourage the hard work people are putting in.
"JimSure" you may of had a bad experience but I can only hope that this may have been a one off. A fantastic pub that really has made a massive turnaround. Your take on beer could be totally different to others, and you are the ONLY person to mention "average beer" and this pub is far from comparing beer to cars! That is ridiculous. Read the newspaper and you will see that pubs are failing due to outrageous costings.
I however do not know how much the guys at the Plough are being charged, I don't even know which Brewery it is... But I STILL see it as fair trade and fair pricing. ABV is, again, irrelevant... maybe if they see this, they will put the higher ABV's to a more expensive price... then won't you both feel a bit silly! The mind BOGGLES!

Another pub going down the route to be a pretentious foodery. Its fare is, however, questionable and on a recent occasion a number of meals from my party had to be returned as under-cooked (including eggs - a definite health concern). Will NOT be returning. Beer quality only average and all beers, irrespective of ABV ,were priced at �3.20. Never come across that before. It's like saying a Rolls-Royce should be the same price as a SmartCar!!!!

Whilst not in any way trying to denigrate from the vast improvement under the present regime, one is beginning to wonder whether "profit" is coming before "service". The bedrock of any pub is its locals and when they become subservient to "here today never see again" parties who "splash the cash" once, questions are bound to be asked. Rather see people who, perhaps, dribble cash on a regular or daily basis, than those aforementioned persons one would have thought. At �3.20 a pint, dribble is perhaps the wrong epithet. �3.20x4x7x52 is not to be sneezed at, IMO.

Discovered this pub last Thursday evening. There was a group of folk musicians playing in one of the rooms. There was a great atmosphere. They play every Thursday at about 9,00 pm. If anyone wants a good traditional night out I suggest they give this a go. On Sunday 21 st August there will be a local singer performing in the garden from 2.00 pm. I had a look at her performance on you tube and she is very good.

Popped into the pub last night on my way home. The atmosphere was amazing. The garden was full....and on a Tuesday!!!! I am pleased to see there is a regular rotation of real ales and they are as fresh as a daisy. It is great to see a pub so well supported by locals and visitors alike.

Attended the beer festival Friday and yesterday, WHAT A FESTIVAL!!! For a first attempt at a beer festival the beers they have are tremendous, the quality is superb and the service is impeccable. Well done Dan & Cathy you have out-done yourselves! I will be in again this afternoon! BEST PUB IN PRESTBURY! Everyone needs to go there today for the final day. Here here

I only heard of the change of hands recently, having stopped visiting the pub in late 2009. Wow! what a change and all for the better, I can't change my review below from 2009 but I retract everything I said. This is now my favorite pub in Prestbury once again. Dan & Cathy have a real love for the pub and the community and it shows. I would strongly recommend anyone to visit this pub. Long may it continue and the best of luck.

Now revitalised under the enthusiastic new management of Dan and Cathy. Great choice of Grade 1 real ales and a quintessential english country pub garden to savour. The food under the supervision of the chef, Roger, is of top quality.

Just found out the Pub will be putting on bbq on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to coincide with the local village open gardens event supporting the Church Fund Charity. Hopefully it will be super event with cream teas in the Church too.

Has been a favourite pub (a 'proper' village pub) for a long time, but has had ups and downs with different landlords. Now with new management, new attitude, new phone number (01242 222180), new chef and new menu, not to mention a dog-free garden (Hurrah!) it is back to the really pleasant place that it can be.

All because of one guy coming in who knows the pub and the people. Well done to Dan and his staff. A massive turn around. I went to the Plough for a party last week. And I keep going back. 4 nights this week. Possibly becoming the best pub in Prestbury. Well Done!!

Long short: new management as of April 2011 - new chef and food 10/10, new approach to keeping beer 10/10. There really is a step change in this pub since that handover, I can't emphasise this enough. The homemade food is now excellent, the quality of the ingredients has clearly been considered and the new chef is superb (best homemade banoffee pie I've ever had, which really is saying something) the beer is also now dangerously drinkable! Please help to support this excellent local pub and help raise its profile - in my opinion any negative comments made against the previous management should be removed from this site, these guys really do have the best chance of crafting this into a grade A pub and should be supported all the way.

I went to The Plough yesterday for a friend of mines birthday party. I had been told it was under new management, and my previous visit was spoilt by a dog running around the garden and totally abusing the garden. I used to come a few years ago and the garden was beautiful. Yesterday it was clear that the new manager has made terrific changes. The lawn at the back of the pub has been re-turfed and it looks fantastic. I did notice a young lad explaining to another customer about the garden and I assume he is the new manager.
The beer was fantastic, I personally was drinking Bombardier and it was a terrific pint. The party I was involved with said that the staff made a heroic effort and I think Dan (new manager) was cooking the BBQ for everyone and it was fantastic.
If you have been put off this pub recently, you have to re-visit as they have made a massive difference in a short space of time!
All the best for you all at The Plough, and I will definitely be back again!!

Had a super meal here last week. I think there is a new chef. There appears to be a lot of changes going on at the pub. The beer was great and there is a new room opened up which is really cosy. There was a real buzzy atmosphere which was fantastic for such a little quiet back water.

Went to this pub during the November 09 race meet. Was told by a very unpleasant lady (a customer) to pee off as I was not local, with other pubs in the area who have more welcoming locals, I will not be rushing back here in a hurry.

Just to update my last comment I was wrong the Landlady was drinking cans outside in November not March (still cold though). I think we had the fire on from October! Oh and it�s the Plough not Plogh. Silly me

The Plogh is now serving Sunday roasts from 12 - 3. �6.95ea or 2 for �12.00
If beerbeer14 has doubts over the quality of food then please feel free to to try the roasts, they are good!!! I should know I cook them.

Visited this pub a few times, and have yet to see the new landlady actually do anything but sit in the garden drinking cans of cider. Whilst they advertise homemade food, I am not sure who's home it was made in, as the staff do not seem very knowledgeable of where their products are sourced and the fact you seldom see anyone eating in there now, speaks volumes as to the quality of the food. The bar staff do however make this pub, without them, I do wonder if this pub would survive.

Great pub now under new management. Friendly, welcoming, kids and dogs welcome.
Fantastic food with a good variety of daily specials all home made by the head chef and landlady. In addition there is a good choice on the main menu - proper pub grub!!
The best pub in the county as far as I am concerned - not many traditional pubs left and this is certainly one of them. All staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.
Amazing what new management can achieve - traditional pub now with a welcoming ambience!!

i was in this pub while at the races this week.it is full of character,fire place,low ceilings etc,and a great beer garden,food is plain but tasty,however the place stinks of greese,toilets are awful,and worst of all the service is terrible,very rude staff behind the bar,asked for menu,told to get it myself,left waiting to get a drink by a woman who completely ignored me, man had to come forward to serve,i wouldnt mind,it was not busy,i would never return

Went here recently. A band were palying fiddles. Beer was gravity from the barrels. Liked the place.

Quaint C17 small pub with magnificent large award-winning garden, close to rear of Prestbury Parish Church. Good, wholesome traditional fare on offer. Interior comprises a small lounge and "taproom".
Only downside to pub is that these two rooms have their regulars, who view newcomers with a good degree of, shall I say, reservervation.
