Old Oak Inn, Horsley Woodhouseback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Magnificent range of supremely well-kept ales tapped direct from the cask in the Rurad bar in the conservatory at the back. Didn't get into the main bar this time, but another trip beckons soon. Tried Leadmill Slumdog at 5.9 and Steel City Dilligaf at 4.9, both stunning ales at a very decent 2.60 each. A brilliant innovation and worthy of many repeat visits, as long as we don't encounter the boorishly casual racist local "entertaining" the crowds as we did this time. He clearly thought he was "funny" as did the cackling crowd that roared with laughter at his wit. Not impressed at him, but not the pub's fault.

Two years on from the last review and I can confirm from my recent visit that the Old Oak is as good as the previous comments make out. I didn't count all of them, but there must have been at least 15 beers either in the main bar or the backroom RURAD bar.
It's a good sized place with four very different separate seating areas. Bus stop right outside as well.

Very good pub. I agree with all the positive comments. What is really lacking is a chalkboard with the name, strength, price, and description of each beer. -Too much guess-work for a casual visitor, having to drive.

went on a saturday night, pub packed and more real ales than you can mention, superb beer good atmosphere and very friendly, only downside is too many people take their dogs with them.( fourlegged types) Also been on a tues and jam session in progress , well worth a visit

Any ale fan who hasn't been here for a while MUST pay a visit sometime soon. Aswell as being a top notch pub, it also plays host to the recently opened RuRAD (Rural Real Ale Drinkers) bar at the weekend. Here you can choose from a large selection of mainly locally brewed ales served straight from the cask into an oversized pint glass, which usually means you actually get more than the pint you paid for! These are served through a stable door into a conservatory area. This is one pub that simply has NO CHANCE of closing down in the recession, simply due to the top notch beer served by decent staff in a friendly atmosphere that attracts people from all walks of life. It certainly deserves the titles of Derbyshire county pub of the year and East Midlands pub of the year. Again, if you've not been here yet, go now! You will never want to leave!

Nice to see a commitment from the managers to stocking real ciders on a fairly regular basis. Thatcher's Cheddar Valley on permanently, which although not always to my tastes, is vastly superior to any of the usual fizzy, bland suspects.

Cracking pub. Two front rooms, with lots of Leadmill ales on, plus a couple of guests. When we were there at Easter they were doing toast your own hot cross buns on the coal fire!!! Brilliant

The Old Oak reopened in October 2003 and has kept true to its simple, local pub feel with two main rooms; both with real log fires which help to create a warm welcome. The single bar has nine handpulls where rotating selections of ales from the Leadmill portfolio are usually joined by a guest beer or two.
