Continues to provide an excellent service, with a good range of ales always available.

Friendly and efficient service in a lovely old stone building on the A6. I've enjoyed many good visits over the years.

Cracking little boozer. Visited on our holiday in the Peaks on the second day of their beer festival. Great selection of beers and a cracking atmosphere, very helpful bar staff, he gave us bus timetable information as well as good beers! Dog friendly, just a good old English pub.

This year's beer festival was the catalyst for our first visit here, having never been able to swerve away whilst en route to the Holly Bush before now. Lovely old stone building running along a good length of the A6, albeit on an awkward corner with nothing but on-road parking. For all iTs overall size, the bar area is small and shallow, running about 25 yards along the building, but only 12 feet deep. A well-chosen list of 16 ales from near and further afield was available, 13 direct from barrels to one-side of the bar area and three more on tap. Good busy atmosphere swiftly built up to a packed hubbub as it turned 9pm.
The barstaff were all of the elder vintage as described elsewhere and were a little taciturn in their approach to serving, seeming to not find much to smile about and having trouble identifying one of the advertised beers, in that we heard someone ask for it, but they couldn't say which barrel it was in as they had simply numbered the barrels against the beer list and couldn't match up the number on the barrel to the number on the list successfully. That aside, the two much younger lads dispensing the beer from the stillage were cheerful, friendly and polite, so it was all generally a very pleasant hour or so.

Looks idyllic (as is much of the area), but Pedigree was average. Went on live music night, which was packed, so turnover shouldn't have been an issue. Worth a trip back though.

Went here for the beer festival last weekend, not that it was my first time. The staff are very friendly and the beer is excellent. It's certainly very popular as I couldn't get a seat while I was there. The Holly Bush is less than 5 minutes walk away also, which is worth a visit.

Enjoyed a comfortable and friendly night staying at the King William with Mrs A-A-O-G. Our room was most comfortable and the service from Pauline & David most attentive. (Pauline cooks a mean sausage!). Ingested more than a few pints of TT Landlord to good effect! Highly recommended for the beer, hospitality and company!

Increasingly popular pub; packed out on Christmas Eve. Good atmosphere, good beer. Would be great if beer changed to two regulars and two guests rather than 3 and 1.

Visited the King William last weekend for its first beer festival. About 20 beers were available from around the country. Pleased to see 12 on handpump. Beers all good quality, great atmosphere.

The King William was a chance find whilst we were staying at the nearby Makeney Hall Hotel. We arrived on quiz night - wednesday, and were a little curious as to what we were likely to encounter. As it was, we were quite early so had the chance to have drink and take in the atmosphere. My partner, knowing me well, came back from the bar exclaiming 'you are going to like this place!'. Upon questioning , the reason he made this statement was the age of the bar staff! The ageist among you may shriek, but his comment was made in a positive way in that there was not one below the age of 40 (well 50ish in truth), and this I hold in very high esteem. Having been a bar person (how PC, i was in fact a barmaid) myself, I hold wisdom and experience very highly! The bar staff were truly a delight, the epitomy of politeness, efficiency and professionalism - not to mention the marvellous snacks that were offered around during the quiz - which incidentally was a delight to all of every intellect. We met locals and strangers, yet everyone was a friend. My final thought of the King William is that for all we were staying in a very smart and expensive hotel 5 minutes along the road, I wish I had booked to stay here - I felt more at home and valued, we will come again and that is a promise.

Unfortunately it doesn't have the Leadmills beers on tap but still serves a decent pint of Timothy Taylor's Landlord
