The King William IV, Milford

The King William was a chance find whilst we were staying at the nearby Makeney Hall Hotel. We arrived on quiz night - wednesday, and were a little curious as to what we were likely to encounter. As it was, we were quite early so had the chance to have drink and take in the atmosphere. My partner, knowing me well, came back from the bar exclaiming 'you are going to like this place!'. Upon questioning , the reason he made this statement was the age of the bar staff! The ageist among you may shriek, but his comment was made in a positive way in that there was not one below the age of 40 (well 50ish in truth), and this I hold in very high esteem. Having been a bar person (how PC, i was in fact a barmaid) myself, I hold wisdom and experience very highly! The bar staff were truly a delight, the epitomy of politeness, efficiency and professionalism - not to mention the marvellous snacks that were offered around during the quiz - which incidentally was a delight to all of every intellect. We met locals and strangers, yet everyone was a friend. My final thought of the King William is that for all we were staying in a very smart and expensive hotel 5 minutes along the road, I wish I had booked to stay here - I felt more at home and valued, we will come again and that is a promise.
