Shut again - looks like the last bloke has done a runner. Word is now that it's going to become a Chinese restaurant.

Something of a gaudy plastic palace. Lacks any kind of pub atmosphere. Still, they serve Real Ale, and what I tried (Brakspears) was decent enough.

The way the new management has terraced over the garden and chopped down a load of the trees is criminal though.

Now open. Separated into 2 parts: one is a general drinking / eating area, and the other has a flatscreen showing sport, and a pool table. Three hand pumps in the former part, with Oxford Gold the best of the bunch. Not too bad, but a bit glitzy.

Due to re-open soon (June 2009) as a pub / grill / carvery.

Looks promising, and at least it's not being turned into a restaurant / flats / a car park / boarded up hang out for rats and other low life.

On a return to Oxford recently I was sad to see this former local of mine boarded up. It was a quality pub for a few years around 2000-05, with excellent food and beer, a great location, and the best beer garden in the centre of town.

The service could be pretty snooty, though, and I suppose that did for them in the end. But with better management, this could be a great pub.

Closed, refurb not started, and allegedly re-opening as an obscure restaurant.

Absolutely shocking mis-management of a perfectly good, well located (it's OX1, with a big garden, next to a YHA hostel and the train station), historic old pub. Anyone involved with it's demise should no longer work anywhere in any industry involving food, beer, or service.

This is now properly closed (boarded up etc.). I would say that not telling their bookings that they were closing was the typical level of customer service. Hopefully re-open with new management soon.

We booked to eat here on a Saturday night but were surprised to find there were only two other tables occupied. The beer and service were very good. No atmosphere due to it being empty. Food was overpriced and uninspiring; Moroccan Chicken that was watery and insipid, Lamb and Noodles with little meat and an excess of soy sauce.
Overall okish but wouldn't go back.

Great food; good garden. On the whole a fine semi-gastro, and very handy for the station. Worth the walk from the town centre on a nice day, as it probably has the best beer garden in Oxford. Virtually the only beer garden in Oxford in fact, but still a good one. It's not really an ale pub, but they do serve it. Not in fact white.

Very nice pub - excellent food, excellent staff and a good selection of beers. Split bars for those who want a traditional pub and those who want some televised sports. Must mention Julie who works the bar and restaurant - Wow! Worth a visit just to check her out!

Two bars - one for hardened drinkers with pool table and TV screen which is not always on, the other with a resturant attached. Food is well above average pub quality but prices reflect this. Usually 4 beers available including London Pride & Wadworths 6x.
Attentive staff with foreign language skills give a warm welcome.
Close to railway station 10mins from city centre.
