Typical chain pub...lots of fake character, average beer, average food. The service tends to vary but never excellent. Not my first choice in the locale.

I didn't like it much

now 'The Oatlands chase'.

This is probably the nearest only pub to beat the minnow by a inch of being the most disgusting, dirty and awefull service ever!
|
I think this place is over-priced and the food you can take or leave it.The pub itself is really nice and the interior is lovely. The service is o.k

Not bad at all. Very nice atmosphere, lovely in the summer.

There is something very wrong with the Vintage Inn formula. First of all, they somehow manage to take food and turn it into something very bland. Secondly, they seem to employ people with no interest whatsoever in service. The word dull does not begin to do justice to the anodyne lassitude which fills one's mind on spending time in their establishments.
The Badger's Rest needs to be singled out on account of being located in a very salubrious environment; and commenting only on the place as a pub, I can say: very very poor indeed. Up at the bar it feels hostile and turnstile-busy; the indifference to quality and timely service makes you think you've stepped back in time to somewhere east of the Berlin Wall pre-1989. The menu is, as others have commented, unreliable and the food is dull. AVOID.

please_now_talk_to_me ... "Very cute Barmaids" !!
The Barman are quite cute too.
But seriously - for a better Vintage experience; go to the Thames Court or Kingfisher. (Even cuter Barmen and maids - and much better service to boot)

Have not been there for a year or so but have never thought much of the place. It is food focused but expensive, poor quality food has always been the order of the day. This is the only time I have walked out of a place without paying as I waited for an hour for a bill one Sunday.
If you want to go and sit outside in the summer then it is fine.

Nice inside, but they are total scrooges with the food portions. I ordered the lasagne with chips and at nearly 7 quid I sent it back for more chips. Seriously there were no more than 10 on the plate! In fairness they brought me an entire bowl for free and the chef came out of the kitchen to see "Who had been so cheeky", which was amusing. It's not a bad pub, very cute barmaids and the beer is good. A good place to take someone on a date.

Friendly place, mainly geared to eaters but plenty of spare tables suitable for drinking only, later in the evenings. Good food including snacks. Bass and London Pride always on.

This used to be the Kings Manor. Thanks Vintage Inns for a pile of shite that is called the Badgers Rest.

Went for sunday lunch, pretty poor. Carrots were dry and pretty horrible, lack of any green veg. The portions were small and badly presented. Staff were nice though and London Pride almost as good as the Prince of Wales, so not bad. But for a pub which is mainly trying to attract diners than drinkers it scored pretty badly.

This has always struck me as one of the more acceptable Vintage Inns "not-quite-a-pub-not-quite-a-restaurant" places. Service OK, food OK, beer limited but OK. Good wine selection. At 5:30 on a Sunday afternoon, when everyone else has stopped serving lunch and you're starving, suddenly you can see the point of the place!

We went there on Sunday 2nd October. The food used to be good there, but it appears to have changed hands from Vintage Inns and the food has gone downhill. Service was slow. The potatoes weren't cooked and the portions were meagre, but spread across a large plate. It's a shame as we used to visit quite often in the winter months, when it used to be welcoming, with the fire roaring. Now it looks tatty and the menu is very uninspiring. There are far more nicer places in the close area.

Personally after visiting this pub I have found the staff excellent, the food reasonable (had a menu last year that was very different but great), the young managers that run the place always go out of their way to help. people should look at the firm behind the place to see what is wrong. I give the Badgers Rest 10/10.

This one is going to the lovely Mrs Lewis. Can you blame me for getting irate? I had a bad experience and want to tell people about it. I stand by what I said. As for staying anonymous, my name is Mr V Marsh. Do you really expect me to write lovely flowery stuff. This web site is about telling people what they thought of a pub or restaurant. Ever heard of free speech or were you brought up in Beijing. I am glad you had a good experience. Great, tell people about it. I on the other hand, had a bad one. Check out Hugh Campbell's comment. He had a bad one as well. I think I missed the bit where you had the right to judge me. As I have already said, I stand by what I have written. If my experience was pleasant, then I would have said, but it really wasnt. Much love, Mr V Marsh

Not a pub at all but a restaurant over priced at that. Food was fine but very small portions. The beer was not all that and over-priced. There was a wedding reception going on in a private room by the front door and the language coming out of there was to say the least very colourfull. NICE

The nice thing about the Badgers is that there is not loads of nosed kids running around. The comments put on the 18/04/2004 come from someone stuck so far up their own arse they would do themselves a favour and go to McDonalds.Insulting staff who they no nothing about shows the level of intelligence. The fact they also wish to stay anonymous says it all or perhaps the name used is correct because that is what they are talking. My mother is disabled we were made very welcome order taken from our table, everything cooked to perfection, staff very helpful! We will use you again.

I went to this pub this afternoon with my wife, daughter and 2 friends. The place is a joke. As far as the staff are concerned, there were 2 good people. One was the barman and the other was a barmaid/waitress. Everyone else looked like I had gone round their house on Xmas day and pi##ed on their kids. First of all when we arrived, we asked if they had a high chair for my daughter as she is only a littlun. We were informed that they only had 2 in the whole of the restaurant. We asked if they could get us one when one was free. We didnt ask just once, we asked at least 5 times and was ignored and in the end we had to get our own. When we finally grabbed our own chair, it didnt even have a harness. Secondly, we asked for a juice for our daughter. It arrived in a glass. This is fair enough as the barman I doubt had kids, so he wasnt to realise that giving a glass to a toddler isnt a great idea. I asked for a straw and they do not provide them. I then asked if they could supply a plastic beaker for her. He told me that it wouldnt be a problem and turned up with a plastic bowl which I think used to hold coleslaw. He told me this was so that we could see exactly how much juice we were giving her. We then ordered the food. I fancied the T-bone steak which was on the specials board. They said that they werent cooking it on this day even though it was a specials board. We ordered 3 other meals and they didnt have those either. We finally got some food and it was pretty damn tasty and was starting to think that it wasnt such a bad place after all and then we asked for the dessert menu. Everything we ordered off the menu was out of stock. We were told this by a cocky little student type who looked like the kind of person who had no intention of ever wanting to do anthing in life. He probably took an open university degree in something like social studies or the history of Eastenders and failed miserably. I am probably sounding a bit harsh but his smiling little face took great pleasure in telling me that they only had proffiteroles. Avoid this place at all costs. If you think that by coming to the lovely Oatlands, you are in for a good time, then do yourself a favour and go to Mcdonalds instead and order a Big Mac Meal. The service is better

I stayed in the "Trout Room" which was excellent, very clean and comfortable. Given that I was dining alone and was very tired, I simply went for a pint of Bass and a burger for dinner, which where both perfectly reasonable.
Service could have been better - one of the staff couldn't muster more than a grunt when I checked out at 8:30 am the next morning.
Overall I thought it was a bit expensive (I'm not native to Surrey) but was as pubs go (and this isn't a hotel) it was one of the better one's I've stayed in.
I would go back.

We were not massive fans did not like the Vintage Inn cuisine and ordering at the bar. Completle new menu and full table service absolute value for money. Great manager Joanne Twinn fantastic service also REAL open fires unlike the fake ones at The Ashley Park.

Freindly, olde worlde comfortable. Found food to be a lot better than other pubs. Drink acceptable, glasses clean. Rooms in the hotel basic but clean and comfortable.

No beer on offer the last few times I went here, just lager. The food went severly downhill in the last year of its ownership by vintage inns - and unfortunately, under new ownership, it hasn't improved.

Food OK. Beer OK. Nothing great, nothing bad - just a very average and pretty dull pub/restaurant/hotel.

Part of the Vintage Inn Chain. Which means it follows the formula to the letter. My Parents who go there weekly claim it has recently gone down hill. The beer is normally of a good standard. But these places have all character beaten out of them by the chain pub formula.
