Terrific, historic pub with a magnificent sperm whale atop its sign, betraying the presumed interests of its former clientele. Isolated amid an industrial district, there is character aplenty with the ales in great condition. I sent a cribbage board flying when leaning back against the games shelf which caused no end of embarrassment.

Interesting well kept ales and real ciders abound. An old dockers pub in the middle of an industrial area on the River Hull. Very welcoming and populated by an older crowd. Basically a very well run proper old fashioned pub and well worth your time and money.

An excellent traditional pub with 7 cask ales plus a decent selection of ciders too. Well worth the few minutes' walk from the city centre.

I come to Hull on a regular basis, My ship is berthed very near to this Pub. At first the beer was very strange to a Neverlander, but one gets used and find your beer is good.
A nice pub, and nice people. I just came for my 4th visit.

Behind a corner building in a run down industrial part of Hull near to the centre. I tried the Neck Oil but wasn't too impressed with it to be honest even at 1.60 a pint I didn't fancy another pint of it.

Called in early doors one night in late February. There was a good atmosphere, log burner giving out loads of heat and it is definately a drinkers pub.
Their own 'Neck Oil' went down a treat and was incredible value for money. The Copper Dragon was also on top form
A real drinkers paradise and I could almost 'feel' the history of the place. I'm only an occasional visitor to Hull but this will be my first stop on my next visit!

One of Hull's best kept secrets which serves 2 real ciders and a perry, as well as real ale, if you like that kinda thing. Always has a real fire going in the winter months to warm your cockles!

Worth finding. good atmosphere and best beer in Hull.

This is a real pub. Looks a true local pub for the locals. Friendly staff and good atmosphere, and we enjoyed the two Whalebone beers we tried. It was a bit of a walk from town but we were glad we had, even though we dragged our suitcase on the pub crawl.

Great pub well worth the walk from the city centre. Very good home brewed beers and guests, friendly staff and locals.

My partner and I went in on Saturday afternoon for a leisurley drink. I had a handpulled pint of cider; a lttle too sweet for my usual taste, but nice all the same. My other half had a pint of Copper Dragon and enjoyed it.
Their own micro brewery beers; brewed on the premises; were extremely good value for money.
The interior was a little dated and could have done with a refurb, sky sports available. Snaks available, although not sampled.
We would return again on our travels to sample more of the beers and ciders!

A proper gem of a pub although not somewhere I'd like to walk to at night as it's a bit derelict round here. Sells a couple of it's own beers Diana Mild and Neckoil bitter along with a seasonal rocket fuel whose name escapes me. Add a couple of guest beers, a very affable atmoshere and you have a very good pub. Well worth a visit, but get a taxi at night.

Still going strong I'm pleased to say and lives up to the comments below. Can't say I'm keen on the "house" beer but there's plenty of other good stuff.

A great pub tucked away in an industrial area. Great crowd, great beers, great time every time.

In the same league as the Wellington for beer and atmosphere; really liked the old football programmes etc. Loved it, though the home-brew is not it's strongest point.

This is very much a locals pub, being in the middle of an industrial estate and firmly off the beaten track, but well worth a visit. They brew their own beers on site (which I found pleasant, but not spectacular) and also do at least two more guest ales and real ciders at very reasonable prices. A range of bottled Belgian beers is also available, and they claim to sell food at 'any time'. Decor is very much old photographs of Hull, and they show sport in a non-intrusive manner; screens are there for those who want to watch it but you're not blasted by the commentary.

I can only concur with Ladnewton's comments - an excellent brewpub, if a little off the beaten track in a rather run-down dockside area north of the city centre. Beers, decor and atmosphere were all outstanding however. A group of Hull rugby fans were chatting to a couple of visiting southerners before we'd even had a chance to order our drinks and immediately offered us a lift to the match, which was a bonus as we'd underestimated the walking distance to the ground.
I enjoyed the Whalebone Neckoil bitter; there was also a Mild available along with several ales from other breweries, though sadly none of the seasonal Whalebone beers. I'll defintely be back though!

Excellent brew pub. I visited last night (12/02/05) having discovered it in Camra's Good Beer Guide. Both staff and locals are as friendly as they come, and all are down-to-earth with a great sense of humour!
The beers are superb (last night there were three Whalebone beers plus Tom Woods & T/T Landlord). For those interested in cider, they regularly have two real ones here. The Whalebone beers are superb.
The pub is generally homely and welcoming, and the walls opposite the bar are adorned with photographs of old Hull.
With the brewery about 2 years old, I am quite surprised that I am the first to suggest this pub, and I recommend it highly. DO visit, you will not be disappointed in any way (unless you turn up when it's shut, that is!!) I give the pub 10/10.
PS: Thanks to Keith for that last pint!
