user reviews of the Lord Kitchener, Welling

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I have to say, this isn't a bad pub at all. It's not really worth going out of your way for, but locals like myself enjoy having a pub like this on our doorstep, especially at well under £3 a pint for very kept lager. You don't get that often round London now. Food is OK, nothing gourmet, but nice enough. They show a lot of sport and have excellent parking if you're driving. One complaint I have is that I think there is too much parking and a section of the main car park could easily be sectioned off and a nice beer garden made of it. The car park is often full of cars where the owner is not even in the pub! If they did this and made a really nice beer garden, the pub would be absolutely great.

Is this site called...food in the evening.com, or what.

If food is what you want, then cook it at home! stop harping on about it.

It's people like you whingeing tree huggers that are - or have, killed the pub trade.

Follow up on my earlier review, another internet voucher called for a 2.99 carvery. Less meat than before on account of a not so generous carvery chef however this was made up for by the Marstons EPA at 1 a pint !

Visited here the other day as I had an internet voucher for a cheap carvery (2.99!). As its a part of the Crown Carvery chain the regular price is under a fiver anyway. The food was fine, I've eaten in here a couple of times and never had any issue with it and of course great value at the price. I went in here on a saturday afternoon so pretty quiet with some families etc, bar staff / clientele seems ok at that time of day. Real ales are now on here : three pumps with distinctly chain pub line up - bombardier, spitfire, marstons EPA which admittedly only seems to be in the crown carveries portfolio locally round here. That was 2.15 / pint and frankly one of the best pints of it I've had. Recommend here if eating, if not this is not exactly a drinkers pub, giving it a 6/10. Uploaded a photo too for this one but if delay in BITE uploading my photos is typical it may be added in a years time...

Average pub, nothing to write home about 5/10

I have to concur with gunnerforlife on this one, the only reason I'd go back here is if my arm was twisted enough and I was too skint for a better roast dinner elsewhere. To be fair, the carvery roast I had here was actually ok, and for the money, a damn near bargain. But the total absence of real ale (Bombardier smooth will not cut it with me I'm afraid!) and the general ambience of the place is just not good enough to draw you back. Save your money up for an extra week and go somewhere nicer.

This is a pub that could and should be far better than it is. True, the carvery is only 3.50 on any day apart from Sunday, but the totally shambolic way this pub appears to be run, and the sheer ineptitude of the bar staff and management means that the only real reason you'd visit it is for a cheap roast dinner. For example, when in there a couple of Saturdays ago, the ice machine had broken and ther ewas no ice available..... OK, I can understand the ice machine breaking, but it's not as though there's not a Londis convenience store just across the road (and I mean just across the road) wher eyou could buy some. Other high-lights include being stared at by the more neanderthal locals when entering the pub (doubtless thinking that you must be "old Bill" as they've not seen you in there before - in their cosy little World no-one ever goes to pubs other than their local!), the unmistakeable pungency of cannabis being smoked in the garden, and our old friend who breezes in with a supermarket basket full of badly pirated DVDs (and bizarrely, bars of supermarket own brand chocolate that are more expensive than they would be in the supermarkets!).
One to avoid unless you are in dire need of a cheap roast dinner. I certainly wouldn't go in there to "people watch".... l

This Pub used to be really popular and well run. It is now a shambles. The manager doesn't care about his pub or his customers. The pub is filthy and has been turned into a gaming area, with a ridiculous snooker table and large televisions all around it. what once used to pride itself on its smart and friendly bar staff and managment, clean toilets and a spotless bar is now a health hazard. It advertises itself as a 'family friendly carvery', which I am sure is the case if you wade yourself through the youngsters surrounding the televisions and the snooker table shouting and swearing at each other. It is really sad to see a pub which was so well run now being well run down.

For the past couple of years we have been regular visitors to the carvery at the Lord Kitchener and have found everything to our liking until the last two visits. The food is excellent, very good value and the staff are very friendly and efficient.
Last time the floors were in a disgusting condition with shredded tissue and food in abundance. The previous time the bar counter was so sticky everthing stuck to it (it was the same on the last visit!).
Please do not let your standards drop and spoil an excellent venue.

This pub is literally 30 seconds walk away from my door, so I was well chuffed when it was taken over. Even more chuffed when I heard it was going to be a carvery.

It is very good. Beers are superbly priced. Draught lagers start from as little 2.10. Food also is wonderful. Great roasts, and during the week, you can get a full dinner for under 4 pounds. They also do a Tikka Masala as well for any curry heads!

Beer is well kept and service is quick and very friendly. Most of the pub is also non smoking if this appeals to you. They also have Sky for the footie.

THIS IS WITHOUT DOUBT THE CRUMIEST,DIRTIEST BOOZER THAT I HAVE EVER FREQUENTED. AS WE WALKED IN THE WHOLE PUB SEEMED TO FREEZE IN TIME AND IMMEADIATELY BEGAN STARING AT US. I FELT THAT IF I RETURNED THE STARE THAT I WOULD BE STARING AT THE INSIDE OF AN AMBULANCE. THERE WAS ONLY ONE BAR STAFF ON DUTY WHO LOOKED IN NEED OF A WASH. I ALMOST GOT SERVED THREE TIMES BUT ON EACH OCCASION HIS ATTENTION WAS DRAWN TO ONE OF THE LOCAL PATRONS BELLOWING JOHN AT THE BAR AND BANGING THERE PINT GLASSES ON THE BAR IN AN INTIMIDATORY FASHION. THE MUSIC WAS DREADFUL AND AT ONE POINT WE WERE TREATED TO CHAS AND DAVE WARBLING AULD LANG SYNE EMINATING FROM A RATHER INEPT SPEAKER SYSTEM. EVENTUALLY AFTER BEING SERVED REALISED THAT IN FACT IT WAS NOT INDEED HAPPY HOUR AS ADVERTISED BUT I HAD TO THINK OF MY PERSONAL SAFETY AND CHOSE NOT TO MENTION IT TO THE BARMAN INCASE SOME OF THE LOCALS BECAME RESTLESS.ALL IN ALL A REAL DAMP SQUIB OF A PUB AND TO BE AVIODED LIKE THE PLAGUE AND I'VE HAD MORE FUN AT A FUNERAL

A Huge pub with lively side bar, big lounge bar and function room to rear fitting 300 people. the front of this old fashioned pub has a massive car park to both sides. if you like a quiet drink this is definately the pub to visit.
