This pub keeps its beer very well. However, I got the impression it may be more orientated towards food. The day I came in the door to what seemed like the main bar area was locked and had larger speakers stored in the room, so we had to drink in the restaurant bit. The ale was magnificent though, especially the Blackcurrant porter from Vale of Glamorgan Brewery. The manager was also also friendly and genuinely seemed to want to know if we were doing alright. It's a bit pricey but nothing to feel wronged about, it also does a happy hour on Fridays.

Busy, young crowd with sky sports in every corner. Pleasant welcome and an offer to try the beers, BUT all the beers Bar one were pale and citrus. The one that was not was a porter.. What a shame, absolutely certain that they could shift one or two traditional bitters. Still, a good pub to visit.

Yet another decent pub, my first visit made this Saturday evening. 6 pumps offering real ale, with a handy chalk board listing the available options. The bar area was quite busy so was useful to be able to suss out the chalk board and see what was available.
We went for a pint of Lost Lobos Porter at £3.30 and had no issue finding a seat. Although fairly busy the pub is definitely large enough to cope.
Another one tried, and I would be happy to return.

Cosy pub with friendly welcome and a wide selection of real ales from smaller independent brewers. Well worth a visit - or add to an extended crawl around Salford's Chapel Street. 8/10

lovely pub, goes a long way to dispel the fuddy-duddy folk singer image of real ale fans, young(ish) crowd, very well kept beer and a friendly knowledgable staff who genuinely like what they do...

Was in Friday - had a Blackjack ale on and another LocAle as well - nice pint of proper Manchester Ale the Blackjack - big head and light hoppy flavour. Will return despite raucous males in corner.

This recently refurbished pub is transformed from the grotty old place it used to be. Scattered, varied armchairs and tables create a Bohemian feeing. Three changing real ales were in good condition. It felt young and lively, with a pool table too. Our only real criticism is that on a snowy January day it was far too cold! We would have stayed longer, but for being frozen.
The wider front corner lounge area was empty and appeared locked, which seemed odd, maybe they’re weren't not enough bar staff when we called to open it fully. Lovers of old Salford may mourn the transformation of old boozers into new ones aimed at young monied punters from the nearby flats, but we say it's an awful lot better than dereliction. A pleasing addition to Salford.

As the previous posters stated, a bit mix and match with the decor but I believe its recently changed hands so wait and see how it develops.
Good to see it now offers hand pumped ale and is worth a visit in an area that knows offers great options for the real ale drinker.

Went in yesterday for the first time and was slightly disappointed. The pint of porter i supped was fine, the interior however was not to my liking. Leather sofas, tiled floor and assorted bric a brac are the order of the day, cosy enough i suppose if you like that kind of thing.
Will be interesting to see if it becomes a regular haunt on the real ale circuit.

Called in here for the first time in ages. I was pleasantly surprised as the interior had been modernised and refurbished to a high standard. It was previously likened to The Jockey on TV's Shameless. Its previous customers' pretty much similar I may add!
It is true indeed that young Tom from the Angel is working there. This is reflected in the decoration of the place. A pool table in one corner along with a jukebox offered entertainment. Diners will be pleased to hear there is a brand spanking new kitchen that can be seen from the bar. I didn't get chance to look at the menu, but if the smell was anything to go off then it should be bang on!
On my recent visit I was fortunate that they had two beers on from my favourite brewery - Saltaire! Even better was the fact that they had my favourite Saltaire stout on - Triple Chocoholic. The other being Raspberry blonde both being in fine condition. Price wise it is central Manchester with £3 a pint being the norm. I counted four handpumps - one being dormant. The other had a beer from micro brewery called Blackjack (I think).
The peculiar thing about the vault is that it is at the front of the pub depending on where you say the front is. I called in to watch a Champions League match and found it amusing that I had to press a door bell to get in. Maybe an original feature that they kept for sentimental value? Who knows?
I shall definitely return - that's for sure.
Cheers!

@ Nokegthanks - It used to be a complete shit house, a few years ago. I've not stepped in since the early 00s mind.
Have you ventured in the place yet?

Been told that cask ales are in the offing, young Tom who used to work at the Angel has apparently gone there.
Will investigate!

As desribed below, was a has-been pub for many years, in the shadow of the Kings' Arms and going nowhere. It shut down and has been given a renovation, with a lick of red paint. Although the original layout has been retained, with a bar room and a lounge of sorts, the decor is now very modern- plush leather seating upstairs. The music is very loud and it seems very much a modern circuit pub-cum-bar now. The handpumps, however, remain and there is a strong possibility of ale in the future. Not really my kind of place at the moment, but at least it's open. Will return at some point to check on the situation.
