The Red Lion was the only pub I visited in Caersws. I'd read that it served real cider. But when I asked the barmaid what ciders they served, I was offered Strongbow and various bottled options. It was only when I tried to be more specific and asked if they had anything such as a Westons cider, that one of the local pointed out a small sign advertising Rosie's Pig. So I was in luck. Locals seemed fairly jovial. But I'm not sure about the anti-English jokes. Much of the discussion revolved around some kind of local contest revolving around how many potatoes you could fit in a bucket. I think I'll stick to England!

If your idea of a night out is listening to foul language by locals on their way home from work, then this is the pub for you. Beer was O.K. but I'm afraid the limited vocabulary of the clientele left rather a nasty taste. N.B. the language was audible from the far side of the room and was clearly tolerated by the bar staff.

totaly unfriendly atmosphere will not return to this village again

Considered by some as a good real ale pub, only wish they had Waen brewery ales on, by far the best local beer and just round the corner. Still, nice old pub, but shame they don't do food any more. Atmosphere not as good as it used to be and locals at knocking off work time are pretty much the most unfriendly out of any pubs I go in in the area. Still a proper pub and a good Sunday lunchtime place to drink..

Very friendly, selection of well-kept real ales, a proper pub. Unfortunately they don't do food but were happy for us to eat our fish and chips (from the excellent chippy round the corner) in the bar! Worth taking a diversion for.

Choice between Holden and Brakspear when we called. A, typical village local with 2 rooms but everyone in the one decorated with beer mats. Lots of friendly English vs Welsh banter and Juke box played plenty of rock music

The best real ale pub in mid wales. 4 real ales on at any one time and an annual beer festival . A gem.
