Excellent location at the end of the High Street with a huge fish and chip shop across the road. Good looking old pub from the outside only ruined by the cheap cafe seats. No benches or anything that said pub to me. Inside its just one huge bar, apparently another upstairs, but let's be clear this is just like so many others along the High Street that have turned into 'Spooner' type places. The staff (young woman and very nice looking as well) was quick and chatty. Three 'beers' on but they were the usual Doom Bar from Cornwall, a Courage beer and Bombardier, which I had and tasted thin. No local beers from Kent. Too tidy, ordered and bland for the building. TVs for sport which is OK but it was just like others up and down the road. Also considering the foot traffic why is the beer dearer than the small back street pubs.

Clean, tidy and quick service but for a free house the beer range is unexciting and seemingly doesn't change. The profusion of large screens makes it difficult to have a quiet drink and a meal on a Saturday afternoon now.

Good food and friendly staff. Could use a bit more variety on the ales front and would benefit from making the pool tables upstairs available at lunchtime. A lively pub in the evenings, but a good atmosphere.

Formally the Norman Conquest. Rowdy at Weekends and best avoided

Average pub near the bridge. Standard beers and lagers on offer. Staff were quick to serve which is a bonus these days.

Went there to watch the rugby over the weekend and it was an excellent atmosphere, lively, loud and totally non-threatening despite size of the crowd upstairs there
Good staff...they got through the rushes quickly and without fuss.
Beer selection was pretty standard sadly, although the Guiness was kept well.

Nt a bad end of high street pub better than a lot down there.good points- clean enough well decorated and friendly enough.bad points-beer and food pricey for what it is.sport screens can be a distaction but its a good place to watch a sporting event can get a bit rowdy tho so beware if you attend.ok pub though.

Not a bad pub but suffers from being overcrowded at weekends.
You can hardly move and getting to the bar is a nightmare. The rest of the week, it's quite friendly and sociable with an extensive range of good food.
In recent years, it has become more of a younger persons pub but there is still a decent mix of ages inside and it is always a pretty good atmosphere.
Overall, well worth a visit but not at the weekend.

had a decent enough pint of pride in here the other night, which tells me that the guest is back! more could be done with the interior though, and the tvs are annoyingly distracting, id love a jukebox too!

The Crown is the first pub in Rochester after crossing the bridge, and was used in the film Last Orders. It had, for a while, changed its name to The Norman Conquest, with a themed interior, but has now been returned to its original name and the original quiet and dignified interior. Sadly the policy of having at least one guest ale has been dropped. It's a large and open pub - solid, well kept and largely unremarkable. Unpretentious clientle which tend to the younger end of the spectrum. Many of the chairs are actually high stools, but there are proper chairs tucked away in the two side wings. A clean and tidy and well run pub.
