Spacious pub, decent smoking area, also got a rooftop beer garden, efficient barmaid. 4 ales on, I had Salopian 'Lemon Dream', nice ale. Full name of pub is Castle Vaults.

We were recommended this by a friend as we only had time for a quick pint between trains and this pub is only a minute from the station. Although we were the only persons at that moment drinking real ale vs lager the ales were in very goon nick. We had two from Salopian and there was also one on from Three Tuns and Stonehouse.

Thought this was a good bar, the ale was well kept (I went for Stonehouse's Off the Rails which was a nice pint) and the vibe was pretty decent in this place. Although it was quite dead to say it was 9.30ish on a Saturday night (may be us coming in their the weekend after New Years may have been the reason why). The location of this place is quite good as well being right next to the train station and it's not too far to walk to get to the Salopian Bar or the Yorkshire House in the other direction. The only thing I would have to say that is negative about this place is the fact that the music was quite loud and this place doesn't seem like a place where people will start dancing or anything so to have it so loud just seemed over the top.

The Vaults was the best of 3 new pubs I tried in Shrewsbury yesterday afternoon. It's a fairly small bar with an outdoor patio area over two levels at the rear. Ales were Battlefield 1066, Hobsons Town Crier & Stonehouse Off The Rails. They also had Stonehouse Sweeney Mountain cider which was quite pleasant. I understand this place can get quite busy in the evening. But it had a nice, quiet atmosphere during the daytime. Close to the station and the castle. The barman was a friendly guy who did a couple of runs to the cellar firstly to check what cider it was as again to serve me one! Recommended.

Small music oriented pub just up from the station. Several comfy sofas around and a small stage with DJ equipment. 3 handpumps on the bar selling Courage Best !!!! alongside Stonehouse Station Bitter. Needless to say I had a pint of the Stonehouse which was OK. Its a bit cliquey in here as everybody seems to know each other and as a visitor you tend to get ignored. Check out the cartoon drawings on the toilet doors. If you choose the wrong one, even when bladdered youve no excuse. Its probably very different later at night and at weekends as it was pretty quiet last night a around 7.

I think mousefan is thinking of Brady's, which this used to be. That was a ghastly place, "kiddies lager emporium" indeed. However the Vaults is now one of the best pubs in town. Massive choice of beer, real ale (including some local ones), happy hour, great music selection (not just boyband crap), friendly atmosphere.

Oh God. This used to be a wonderful pub with one of the best selections of real ales I've ever come across. Now it's been "done out" as an identikit kiddie's lager emporium. Don't go there.
