Saw this advertised for Lease (FRI) at a more realistic rent of £25k PA (originally £40k with a concession), but why buy a tied lease when there are plenty of free-of-tie properties where you can actually make a profit!!

At time of writing this pub is shut. Brewery looking for new landlord

I was here last Saturday lunch time so it was a bit quiet. Few guys watching the Norwich v Aresenal game. Not too bad a place clean and tidy but I don't know what evening brings? Only one hand pull serving Greene King IPA @ 1.99 a pint.

Sadly this place reflects the town and the people in it.
Its tacky, cheap and nasty.
Haverhill doesn't have, and couldn't warrant a pub with any class because having sat in this place for about 20 minutes you soon realise why that is. No one in the town has any class.
The bar staff were rude, obnoxious and downright ignorant, and thats the good ones......
I spent 1 day in Haverhill, and trawled 4-5 pubs and in each and every one I found the place to be dirty, the beer awful and the staff more interested in either chatting somoene up or getting chatted up. Getting an aknowledgement off them is hard, getting some customer service is nigh on impossible.
This pub is, as mentioned a reflection of the Haverhill mentality. Full of young kids running around acting like wannabe gangsters with no concept of the fact they live in a pokey little town where a punch up in the high street is seen as major trouble... Take them little wannabes into a city like Manchester and they'd last all of 20 seconds.
This pub reflects the town and the people in it.
I wouildn't recommend this pub to an alcoholic with withdrawal symptons. Mind you having tried the beer, its about as close to paraffin as you are going to get.
I've given it a 1 mark. I struggled to find an actual reason for even giving it 1, but in the spirit of generosity I'll give it a mark for the fact that they at least do give you a sign telling you the way out.. Shame I hadn't spotted that as I walked in.

Horrible place. Rubbish beer, rubbish food, rude staff with an attitude. Best to avoid.
|
Avoid this place as its a dump, the beer stinks just like the staffs attitude!
|
The standard of ale is really hit or miss, and generally it is miss. Same with bar staff, some good some downright miserable. Food is not bad. This is a friday/ saturday late night music pub so treat it as such.
|
I don't know what they do to the beer here but it is HORRIBLE!! Tried a Carlsberg and it tasted like dish water. Afterwards noticed that the barmaid was starting pints under the counter using a slops jar and only topping them up using the tap...is this legal?

Rubbish .....if your not from the area than you dont know what to expect ... as for the footie, its like anywhere else so stop complaining and get a back bone.
|
I popped in on my way to see Haverhill Rovers, just down the road, so I'm a bit of a footie fan and a masochist but not enough to venture into this loud, over-crowded beer bungalow again. I prefer to enjoy my pint.

This is going to sound rather strange. I've been in this pub twice - both times had atmospheres at different ends of the spectrum.
We were looking to buy a house in Haverhill so went up beforehand to survey the area and local pubs. We entered this pub at about mid-afternoon on Saturday in March - hardly anyone in, bar management/staff were pleasant and food wasn't bad. It's a large pub and very cosy when exetremely quiet.
The second time we went in was FA Cup Final day about 2 months later - Haverhill is a London-overspill town and many locals support West Ham. It was probably not the best time to pop in for a quiet drink!! The local young men, all beer-y and boozy was very rude as we tried to shuffle our way to the bar. We have never been in a Haverhill Town Centre pub since!

i think both these comments are rather harsh.. they havent said what time of day they visited or if it was a weekend.. come on guys.. give the place a chance..
this is not a bad pub, its more of a sports bar than an actual pub with what id class as proper pub meals, but i havent eaten there latly so i cant comment on the food at this time.
the beer is not flat.. it may well have been when johnsmith visited but did u talk to the staff and get them to check the gas ? maybe you did - maybe you didnt.. you cant really complain about it if your not willing to talk to the staff and ask them to rectify the problem.
as i said above.. its a sports bar.. so if your a football fan then this is the place for you over match days - they have sky sports and 2x projector systems at both ends of the pub - so you dont have everyone crowding up next to you to watch the game.. they have a few pool tables - bit expensive but the tables are kept clean and are covered up on match nights so thats good.
the staff are a little slow serving on busy nights - but its not a huge bar - so give them time guys.. dont expect to be served immediatly.. we are english after all - we love to queue :) the glasses are normally spotless, this is one thing i always look for as my 1 bugbear is lipstick smears on glasses.. i cant stand it..
to be honest - you either love the place or you hate it - depends on how much you like sport really..
go and have a look for your self, but be warned the place is like any other on a weekend.. busy nightlife.. so you have been warned..

HAVE ONLY VISITED THE WHITE HART ONCE, THAT WAS ENOUGH ! ATMOSPHERE WAS NON EXISTANT, BEER WAS FLAT AND BARSTAFF WERE TOO BUSY PLAYING WITH THEIR MOBILE PHONES TO ATTEND TO CUSTOMERS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WILL NOT BE RETURNING.
