Blue Anchor, Lancasterback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Why, oh why has The Blue Anchor changed its name to the ------ what? 1725?
It was the Blue Anchor for DECADES.
It makes you wonder whether the Brewery - no, sorry the " Leisure Properties Incorporated " or whatever they are called that are the owners of this formerly fine, olde establishment that lies in the Heart of this " Historic City " REALLY KNOW what they are doing - or are they being led by-the-nose by their Company Section that routinely refurbs every one of their premises regardless of whether it need doing-up - or not doing up.
Hey, the costs of the refurbs go onto the price of OUR drinks /food - so why not ? After all - they have kids & mortgages too......
But that's not really my concern - the quality of drink, & of the food & the clientele - IS , however.
A totally pointless move - and for continuity go & look at York in the "The Shambles " area. The pubs etc etc there DO NOT get refurbed every 3rd year or whatever -- and the place is buzzing with Tourists looking for an Olde Worlde vibe .

Oh My God!!!!!! The anchor was always a bit naff, but ok for a quiet drink. What the hell is going on here 1725, is that the name or the price of a pint?? Total shocker, full of posing idiots.

Avoid this place.
We visited on a Saturday evening for food. Even though the temperature outside was boiling hot, all the windows were closed, which coupled with a lack of air conditionning made the place uncomfortably hot.
Our food arrived very quickly (within about 5 minutes), a bit too quickly for my liking, which probably means it was heated up rather than cooked fresh.
One dish (chorizo) was severly undercooked meaning that it was so tough it was literally impossible to bite through a piece.
The remainder of the food was of a poor standard - dry, chewy chicken and sauces with no flavour.
We asked the see the dessert menu but it never appeared so had to go and find one ourselves. We waited 25 minutes before we noticed the staff taking the desserts in the display counter back to the kitchen (probably to be displayed again the following day).
We then resorted to enquiring about the missing dessert and no explanation or apology was offered, only that they would remove it from the bill. How nice of them!
When we pointed out that we had been unable to eat the chorizo we received a somewhat blank response and had to ask for it to be removed from the bill.
A large propoertion of staff were either rude, arrogant or simply ignored you.
I'll say it again, avoid this place.

Recently been completely renovated and is now called '1725' - more of a restaurant now than a pub but much better than it was.

Not a bad pub, the last reviewer got it pretty much spot on 5/10

A pub of 2 halves. Full of scallies in the room on the left as you enter, and a lot more upmarket (but a bit dead) on the right. Nice building, but the pub itself could be so much better.

Not great, 6 handpulls on the go make it look better than it is.
The atmosphere was a strange mix of dead-yet-rough (the decor didn't help, it was a bit manky disguised by lots of blue lighting) and the beer was of dubious quality, the sort of thing a decent landlord should eliminate by a quick taster during the day.
I have no reason to go back here.

7 years ago this place was buzzing. The Manager then moved to the Duke of Rothsay;the pub has gone downhill ever since-even transferring to tenancy from management. The last pair hadn't a clue;I believe they're now in the process of ruining The Globe at Overton.

Anything to say well now.If you go out for a quiet night dont go here. When i have been in the owners argue infront of everyone, shows no respect for staff or customers. If you want free drinks then this is the place.landlord and partner buys loads of free drinks for people what it is to have freinds eh,wonder why they have freinds it isnt because they are nice people. I used to go in this pub years ago on a regular basis and i can tell you it is crap now compared to then.there is no atmosphere.A pissheads dream pub

Nice pub, good beer, food available, disabled and baby changing facilitiews. Entering from Market St you come into a courtyard which looks like ships hold to the left the bar looks like a boat, large dining area, the other entrance leads to Basful Alley said to be named as "ladies" did not go their because of what went on in it (it was a dark alley,so use your immagination)
