I have been frequenting the White Horse for a number of years and seen it change hands three times. I am pleased to say the current landlord has been working very hard to restore the pubs former glory. The bar staff are both attractive and helpful and the clientel are a jolly bunch. If you like cold beer, a simple meal and a game of pool, than its worth a visit. I would suggest ignoring comments by the previous landlord as eviction is not a promtion!!

In reply to itsmetam I think you need not worry about your old pub missnight was talking about when you ran it? the police and locals are happy and the management has not been arrested?.We are now providing quality food,a friendly happy enviroment for the pub to grow,no under age staff or drunken owners and a health profit.

The white horse, now has a friendly atmosphere, and a Landlord who can run a pub unlike the previous couple who ran it .As for tams comments about her old pub I believe they did not leave by choice ?????The bar staff are friendly and smart, the menu is small but very nice.Very nice pub

How sad to read this about our old pub!!... gutted! Maybe its time for Merlin Inns to look hard at this place and employ someone who will not drink its contents, work drunk, will work hard to make this lovely little pub a hit and get rid of the person running the place to the ground!

also referring to monstermash's message now NO live music on sundays.

Used to be a decent place to go at the weekend, food at present or should I say what is on offer is poor. went in couple weeks ago and its under new management again, new manager well and the staff seem under age and language both sides of the bar hideous!! couple of months ago it was the place to be but now walk on by. my husband visited the gents loo and was affraid the rest of the ceiling was going to collapse ontop of him. horrific state, expensive beer. we visit the Swan now for our lunch,

Under new management, currently with live music on Sunday nights.

Average town boozer. In the absence of kroney blanc its true colours of mediocrity are revealed ;-(

Often pop in at weekends for a lunchtime pint sandwich. Food is very good, as is the beer. Speckled Hen I think. Well kept.
|
Never mind, it was only singing the praises of Kroney Blanc..........lush ;-)

Where did my last review go???!!!

Excellent pub serving great ales and lovely food at a good price. The Lamb Wellington is particulary good.

Home of the worlds hairiest landlord (shoulders only) competition. His neat plan of employing a barmaid with a cleavage so awesome that it distracts you from how expensive the drinks are very nearly worked, too.

I'd agree that the refurbishment could have been a bit more comprehensive - simply painting it could not stop the Gents from being a bit gruesome - but I think that since taking over in August Mick and Farran are doing a good job. I've been in four times recently and enjoyed good food and a different guest beer on every occasion. The bar has been smartened up considerably, and the staff are friendly and helpful. It is the only pub in Alton that I eat in (at present). A couple of friends who are a bit older than me went for a meal and found the language in the bar a little ripe on a Friday night, but that's the clientele, not the pub. Give it a try on a weeknight, you may be pleasantly surprised.

the 'orse has finally been given that much needed makeover. the style is probably best described as being from the ``if its broken don't fix it'' school of thought. madeover and yet exactly the same as before. this pub is a tip.

Looks like this place got forgotten, at one stage i thought the sign was going to crash down and kill a pensioner but to my knowledge its still there. Inside, well, again, lost in time, dusty, smelly crappy little excuse of a pub. Just walk past if you thing of going in. But watch out for the sign though.
