My experience couldn't have been more different to the preceding comment. We had a very friendly welcome from the lady behind the bar, and some excellent pints of Coniston Bluebird. There are interesting pictures in the gents, too, although a bikini and waders is quite a disturbing combination, in my opinion...

Phoned in advance July 2010 to ask if they served lunches.When we arrived at 12.15 the place looked run down and in darkness. There was only 1 beer on the pumps and the barman told us that he wasn't open yet and was "cashing up".
He asked us to come back in twenty minutes.
We continued our walk and won't go back.This was the least hospitable place I've ever visited. They obviously don't want customers.Country pubs need help to survive but this one probably needs to close.

Excellent selection of local beers, notably some ideal post walk offerings from the Keswick Brewery. Really quite good food and friendly staff but could maybe do with more comfortable seating - sorry being very picky there

Nice little pub in picturesque setting. Squeezed me in for good dinner despite being fully booked. Good beer.

Really well-kept real ales, and excellent food. We had honeyed lamb, whisky prawns, chickpea curry and mushroom spagetti, which were all exceptional. Very friendly little place (although a bit hard to find as it's off the beaten track - you pass it if you travel from Penrith through Askham to Haweswater Lake).
