Very nice pub and good food - does tend to get very busy and quite often functions being held (private parties etc.) but would recommend

A magnificent Ale House - absolutely top drawer. Very popular both with city professionals and teenage drinkers.

After a few people had recommended the fox food to me, I decided to eat there for the first time since it's been renovated and I must say it was one of the best meals i've had in a pub for a long time and will be revisiting again soon.

Took the family to the Fox today. Partner complained her monkfish was raw. Waitress came back saying that as she had eaten most of it, we wouldn't get a refund (d'oh....can't tell it's raw in the middle without eating some of it!!). Complained again and they gave us 50% off plus the waitresses tip! As if the poor girl had done anything wrong! Manager never came over to apologise just left to the young girl to sort. Tip for restaurant managers....if a customer complains about the food please listen to them and try not to squirm out of it. Very unprofessional and lack of class. Won't be back in a hurry.

There have been several reviews berating the change to The Fox. However, change was needed as since Evelyn (and Brian) left, the Fox was just getting worse and worse. (Short term Aussie managers who didn't have a clue about service or cleanliness, a case in point.) The decor might not be to everyones's liking, (it is a lot brighter and smarter than previous), but the beer is, as is the service. Pride always good. Doom Bar and Bombadier also good according to my colleagues. Sunday lunch excellent, and no dearer than a meal at Harvester. BUT, there should not be compulsory 10% gratuity on food orders. Otherwise, a huge improvement. And it is busy, so they must be doing someything right.

Most of the above is such rubbish, the Fox was dated, scruffy and was in desperate need of a revamp. It has now had a wonderful one, I have never felt so welcome in a pub, the owner is hands on as is his family and they greet customers like old friends, alot are as they were and are locals which is great. As well as the old regulars there are now new faces in there much of the time as they have heard how nice it is. Children and dogs are welcome, the food is great and the owner has emplyed some of the lovliest bar staff I have ever come across so don't be put off by the above so called reviews, the pub is now tastefully decorated with lovely comfy setees and chairs, a mix of old tables with pew chairs for meals, the loos are gorgeous, the whole pub is clean and just feels comfy, in the winter the setees are round a lovely open fire. I suggest all of the above get over to the vile Greyhound, they may be more at home over there!

Mediocre is the only thing to say about this pub. Bland, beige and dull. Feels as though it is trying to be something it isn't. Food was average and the bar staff were unattentive. Wouldn't rush back.

Bright and airy and very comfortable with great beer, food and staff. Still work in progress,(currently the garden is being updated complete with outside BBQ area) and whats been done so far is excellent! Unrecognisable from the very tired pub of old. It is becoming the best pub around, with a real friendly feel that most others lack.

Unfortunately The Fox in Keston is not the pub it used to be. Prima Facie the new look of this pub is superb, that is until you reach the unenthusiastic bar staff who attempt to charge you 10% for miserably serving a pint of shady at the bar. And there I was thinking that service charge was a discretionary tip that one chooses to add for GOOD service?!

What were they thinking? The pub has turned beige! How bland is that? The pub did need to be redecorated and freshened up but they've painted out any character that it had. IT'S A PUB in a semi rural location overlooking the green and commons. How is it possible to mess that up? A popular phrase including the words 'Pissup' and 'Brewery' come to mind. Some people were trying to enact a local tradition and sing over the fud fud of the musak but the bar staff insisted on trying to enforce their vision over what should probably really be going on in Keston.

Yes, the pub is being given a complete overhaul. Looks like it is gonna be finished soon. As it is local to me, I'm hoping the refit will attract more customers as it is usually fairly quiet.

I like the Fox. It's comfortable enough and serves a decent pint of Flowers.
Friendly enough as well.

This is a pleasant, friendly pub. It looks a little "tired", nothing a lick of paint couldn't fix, and hopefully it will get that quite soon. Meanwhile it's not a bad place at all, and far preferable to The Greyhound over the road (which has all the atmosphere of a village hall and frequently a virtual dress code - hostile looks if you're not wearing a Crystal Palace shirt).
|
Don't go here! It's grubby and unwelcoming and the beer has been poor the times I've visited. Very strong windows though - an open window survived my head. And probably many others - opened right across the steps to the beer garden. That's about the only way this place will knock you out. And to be fair to this place, I will repeat the comment I made on The Greyhound's review - don't go there instead as it's just as bad.

I'm ashamed to say that despite passing this pub twice a day on the way to and from work for nearly 20 years, yesterday was my first visit. A good range of beers served by an eccentric barman. With the outward appearance of Elmer Fudd he does serve a good pint and is quite knowledgable about each of the brews. It is comfortable place with ample parking and a nice terrace for use in clement weather. I will return and, hopefully, sample the cooking.
