John Fielding, Cwmbranback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
LOL! at the the last review! It is very true of the establishment on a weekend.. It does get pretty wild in there & a police car seems to be parked there regularly after about 10:30pm on a Saturday... However, of a weekday it is generally filled with families & pensioners. The food isn't fantastic, but it's a Wetherspoons so you shouldn't expect too much.

A wonderful pub. Perhaps Desmond Morris would care to have a look at some of its patrons. Only last night I witnessed a crazed, red faced, steriod fuelled maniac clad in a lovely polo shirt screaming inchoerent insults, jumping up and wildly gesticulating in the direction of a young girl, who i believe ad the misfortune to be his "lover". The police were called. Again. He was asked to leave after "starting" on another lad, but was allowed to hang around outsude menacingly by pub staff, eyeballing innocent boozers such as myself and my comrades. This is symptomatic of a pub that in the las few years has been mentioned in connection with untimely deaths in local newspapers. I can't remember a night I have spent in this establishment on a weekend that hasn't thrown up at least one dramatic, if highly amusing, incident of mindless drink inspired lunacy from chest beating neanderthals. It truly is an experience to be cherished. If only it was the clientele that were the only problem. I understand that a pub cant really be responsible for the sea of souls it allows in to drink themselves into a stupor and cause violence themed problems for the paying punters around them......... Then we move onto the service in this watering hole. It sucks. If you get there at 8pm on a Saturday, you MAY get served before 9pm. Dont quote me on this, because I have on occasion given up and relocated at the low rent Bowlplex bar over the street. I have had the dubious pleasure of buying a pint only to be told seconds later that i have to drink it immediately and GET OUT. Unfortunately John Fieldings is the only pub in Cwmbran Town Centre, which means all of teh scummy inhabitants of my home town are drawn to it like moths to a flame. Or more aptly like Zombies to a shopping mall. If you have an interest in anthropology it is a very worthwile place to attend. Just make sure you have a helmet, some fags to calm down the psychos, and a mobile phone to call the rozzers when it inevitably kicks RIGHT off. Thanks Spoons. Thanks for all the fun. Thanks for making my eyes more nimble, in having to avoid the steely glare of tattooed madmen. Thanks for sharpening my hearing to an extent where i can hear "what the f**k is he smiling at" from over twenty yards. It IS cheap though.........

Very busy but pleasant pub, anoasis form the shops.Good selection of ales, perhaps a bit cold, but this does not affect the flavour.Staff very friendly and efficient.

Thats a bit unfair. You cant have one rule for one and not the other. Being as the John Fielding is a town pub and is on the site of the notorious Moonraker it is understandable that the management enforce their licence conditions. On the many occasions I have been there I have enjoyed friendly and efficient service typical of a Wetherspoons and will always go back as it is considerably less rough than the pubs in Pontnewydd. It is a welcome addition to Cwmbran and the only gripe I may have is with Weatherspoons on the whole, where their excellent selection of Real Ale always seems to be kept too cold.

The management of this pub spoilt my son's wedding day for the sake of two cokes!!!!! The wedding party of 36 people had called in for a 'quickie'... Amongst the guests were four children age ranging from 16 to 17 1/2 years old... The children were refused to be served cokes, so of course two adult members of the party went to the bar... Each were refused the cokes on the grounds that..'The children were not allowed drinks unless they were in a specified area and meals were ordered as well'... One adult member of the party had not heard the conversation and so went to the bar for two cokes and a pint for herself... She was served and gave the cokes to the children... The next thing we knew, a member of staff approached our table and stated thst we'd already been told the 'rules of the pub' followed by a threat that the children will be removed from the premises and that we would join them!!... A member of our party then took her pint back to the bar and said' If I'm not allowed to stay then I would like my money refunded for this pint... Suddenly the mood of the staff changed and she was offered 'time to drink her pint'!!!! We were all disgusted at the attitude of the staff, who were quite happy to spoil such an occasion (It was obvious to all and sundry that we were a wedding party because we were all wearing carnations) but this mattered not a sausage to the staff... So 36 members of the public are now left with the memory of the day a beautiful wedding was spoilt for the sake of two cokes!!!!!
