Ember Inns chain pub - three cask ales available (the one I tried was well kept) plus a reasonable food menu. From my perspective, the "no under 14s" policy is welcomed as too often, chain pubs serving food are spoilt by kids running rampant.

The pub doesn't alow under 14's in because it's meant to be more of grown up pub, where if you had been at work all day and fancied a meal or a drink it's like a home a way from home. No children, no loud music, large selection of drinks and food. A chill out. The staff are friendly, chatty and lovely and would never have spoken to you like that.
Stay in sandbach love

Disgusted. I had stopped here briefly for a drink a few weeks ago and thought the beer was good so decided to take some close friends of mine for lunch as they had come over to meet my 2 week old son. Within seconds of walking in with the pram, the girl behind the bar looked at me like I had wheeled in a dead dog and shouted at us "er, no kids allowed". He was asleep and silent at the time so quite how he was more offensive to the patrons than, say, a stag do, is beyond me. We went to the Bears Head in Brereton instead which is a far superior pub.

Second leg of Anorak Tour 2009 and pub is 5 minute walk from Station. Had 1 pint of lager and 4 pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord but general opinion was that they were inferior to those drunk in the Fox Inn.

Lots of rooms in this chain pub, very tidy and the staff were very attentive. Hand pulled beers were Banks Bitter, Taylors Landlord and Adnams Explorer - had several pints of the latter which was top notch. Menu was typical chain stuff but reasonably priced and we had no complaints. Will call again.

Last time I was there was December 08. Pretty good. Friendly staff, but don't allow kids in (some kids are well behaved you know).

Although there are other pubs in the village we always end up here, so I suppose this is my local. It's an Ember Inn, so you know that there'll be no huge surprises. Having said that, this is a large, clean, very friendly, consistent place to eat and drink. And the real ales are varied and well kept, with tasters freely available.

I have used this pub between 2 and 3 times a week for the last 2 months at lunchtimes. There is a crowd of us girls. The service and attention by the bar staff is second to none - they always acknowledge when any customer approaches the bar to be served (a very nice touch). The food is extremely good and my husband - who will only drink real ale - rates the quality and variety of ales on sale very highly. The Red Lion competes very well with other notable hostelries in the area (Swettenham Arms, The Black Swan at Lower Withington,The Crown at Goostry). The Nearby George and Dragon is dreadful by comparison.

Agree about the food being poor, but it isn't that bad. It's a chain pub (Ember Inns) so you should know what to expect

Used to be a good pub, recently gone down hill. Cask beers aren't varied as they used to be, and food is the pits. Nearby George & Dragon serves better ale.
