Won't visit this pub again. Went for dinner recently. Food was overpriced and very poor quality. My steak was served on top of some hash browns (or something) to make it look thicker. I could have done with a chain saw to cut it and it came with half a ton of economy chips. Prawns were really shrimps and cooked until they resembled pencil erasers. Only 2 ales available IIRC.

I and 5 other family members had a meal at this pub a couple of weeks ago. It has recently changed hands (before the review in June 2009). There are far too many tables in the restaruant area - leaving a narrow walkway (about 3ft) between tables. The waitress, who I think was the manageress, kept calling everyone 'Sweetheart'. Food - well they have an extensive menu and specials board - I ordered paella to be told 'we havent made any today' despite it being on the board and the menu. I opted for the steak and kidney suet pudding. When it arrived it was the size of a medium xmas pudding and swamped in gravy - presumably to cover the fact that the top which was now the base (if you see what I mean) was as hard as concrete. The mixed grill which another of my party had had steak that was so overcooked you could repair shoes with it. The crispy roast duck was raw but had been covered in gravy to cover it up. The other two meals were just passably. The portion sizes are far too big - I can eat with the best of them but sent half the food back!. All in all the prices are high and the food quality below poor. There is an excellent pub 4 miles down the road in Elsworth which I shall use in future! This is a low class pub kitchen which has built an extension with a few bedrooms in it to call itself a hotel. Its a disaster.
If you want my advice - GIVE THIS A WIDE BERTH.

The pub itself was nice enough and has a good garden area and access to Wifi. On the downside the food was terrible. I had a more than disappointing fish pie which had grey meat and no flavour. My partner had a vegetarian cheese bake, which he left because the leaks were like tough old boots and the rest wad just microwave heated cheese splodge. The waitress did not seem surprised that we did not like the food and promised to tell the chefs but she did not offer us an alternative or refund for the uneaten food.

Visiting the area with friends for a few days, the Golden Ball was recommended for last Sundays lunch. Excellent recommendation, efficient, friendly and attentive service. Will definitely return.

Not a real pub - should be in Milton Keynes. Food was a little bit Trust House Forte if you know what I mean - staff were friendly, but the extensions to the pub were ersatz.

I've been to this pub on several occassions and found the staff excellent; they were professional, friendly and kept delightful conversation. The food was equally good and I have no complaints whatsoever. I will definitely be back for the wonderful atmosphere and delicious meals!

Another voice to warn against this place..its a prime example of 'do up the place like a magazine living room, fill with bored dishonest staff and wait for the mugs to roll in...Don't bother

Bland but fairly inoffensive ambience and okay beers ruined by sloppy food and unpleasant staff. To be avoided. My recommendation? Go down the road to the Poacher in Elsworth instead for a proper pub.
