Small selection of wines but offered to let me try several before buying a glass. Ordered salad and beef bourguignon - both very good. Nice team in control - especially Louise who gave a very warm and genuine welcome.

Visited lunchtime after receiving a flyer through the door. It said exccellent range of beers and local real ale. (Yes still only one real ale on pump, rest bottled). Beer a bit more expensive than average. They describe themselves as the Queens Head Pub, but it feels more like a restaurant. When you go inside initially if feels big then you realise the very large mirrors behind the bar are giving that illusion and when you look across you see yourself looking back! It is acutaly quite small. There was some seating outside though. It is a lovely building but is lacking in something and I think there is no area where you can just hang out for a casual drink, because the emphasis is on food. The food is very well presented but not sure about their claims. The menu said the pork belly in cider is cooked for 9 hours, but I do not believe this as it wasn't as tender as you would expect and it was fatty. We believe the sauce is made with cider. Was not impressed by the accompanying red cabbage. The menu is available online queensheadpub.co.uk Having read the previouse reviews I have to say there is no Thai theme now more italian.

This has been one of our favourite summer Sunday lunchtime venues for a few years and, having learned from this site that it was under new management, we went along to see what changes had been made and what impact they had had. This has always been a traditional country pub and they have maintained that feel, though it has been 'smartened up' a bit. It seems that they have reduced the number of tables to make the place more spacious, and the pub has a more airy feel as a result. Didn't like the new carpet which looks as if it has been laid upside-down, but it does give the place a clean aspect. The menu is a lot smaller than before, and the chalkboards have gone which were full of options, but the range of dishes is still adequate. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, having reserved a table at 2, and the welcome and service was a tad slow. The food however was very good. We had Beef Bourgignon and the Sea Bass, which were both excellent. I think the new management are feeling their way a bit, so we might need to be patient before they get up a head of steam. But the pub is still well worth a visit.

We live in fleet and heard the pub had been totally refurbished with a new modern menu and fast becoming the talk of the town.. Well, they were not wrong and i now know why ! In my opinion it is now the smartest pub in town but in a cosy and relaxing way. The decor and comfortable furniture create a real homely, village pub. It was busy with locals enjoying a chat/drink with eachother and we had to wait 15 min for a table in the restaurant and it was MIDWEEK ! We'll book next time. The food was exceptoinal. The service was so friendly and attentitive it surprised us as we were only in a pub and the waiter a mature and professional version of Manuel/Faulty towers. A great evening was had by all and would recommend it whole heartedly.

This pub/restaurant has undergone some major changes in the last 6 to 8 weeks and I can only say many positive things about the place, the food is excellent and the staff are very warming and friendly and made my visit a pleasant one, so much so that I've since been back on numerous occasions and everytime it's been as enjoyable as my first visit. Onwards and Upwards and good luck to all associated with the place!!

I recently read some unflattering reviews of this pub and restaurant which surprised me as I knew that the restaurant only became operational on the 15th December after a period of closure as it was on this day that by chance I called in thought that I would have a bite. I was surprised to see that there was number of Thai dishes on the menu and that they were all prepared on the premises from fresh ingrediences to authentic Thai recipes unlike most pubs offering 'supermarket style' Thai curries. I was delighted by the wonderful meal which I later discovered was prepared by Thai chefs who had been trained at one of the country's leading Thai restaurants. Food apart which as I said was really lovely the greeting and warmth of the reception by the manager and staff was worth the visit and I shall certainly be back again.

I had the unfortunate experience of calling to this establishment with some friends the other evening, I shall refrain from calling it a pub, as I'm sure I could be prosecuted under the trades description act. The ale served had a choice of ONE and that was flat, if you ordered a gin and tonic you had to have it without ice, as apparently the ice making machine was broken some time ago by the previous landlord. Too much trouble to get any from a super market and no danger of the current manager doing anything about getting it fixed, something to do with the brewery not giving him a budget!!!!!!!!!!! There's customer service for you. Despite food being advertised on a chalk board inside, this establishment actually does not have a chef or serve any food, something else left over from the previous landlord and hadn'y even cleaned the chalk boards off. The best advice I can offer on this dump, is go somewhere else for a drink.

Went for a meal with some friends during the week (Mon-Thur) only to find this establishment doesn't do food during the weekday evenings, only lunch times??? After this initial dissapointment tried to order a round of drinks only to find two of the three ales were off, compounded with there was a problem with the gas on the Stella larger, gave up and went to a delightful pub just down the road, should have realised there was something wrong with this place as there were only 3 other people in the whole pub who in fairness to them appeared to be locals.

Had a walking party of 8, and stopped here for lunch. Very nice pint of Cornwall beer ( can`t remember the name of it, sorry!). Food was fine. Well cooked steak & ale pie, with choice of types of potato and bowl of fresh veg. The salad mains were good value. Bar staff were friendly and efficient (not to mention easy on the eye!). Prices were the same as the other 2 pubs in the vicinity. Worth a vist if in the area. Glad to see the grass had been cut, put me and the family off last time we saw this pub.

We have used this pub as a favourite for eating out on a Sunday lunchtime, and always enjoyed the extensive and varied menu. Surprised by some of the negative reviews here, we visited the pub for lunch on a Thursday during half-term. Although the new managemengt have slimmed down the menu, there is still a wide choice and several specials. Our food was excellent (Thai-style swordfish and a to-die-for Toffee Crunch pie) and the service friendly. They are having problems getting staff so are currently closed in the aftrernoon (last food orders 2pm). I would still heartily recommned this pub for eating - not likely to be your local for a few pints though, as it's very food-focused.

Great Food, Good Service. My wife and I will be returning.

Good pub, especially on warm sunny days. There's a large garden area out front where you can watch people come and go - it's a very busy set of country lanes.
The food is reasonable and the service is friendly.

This pub actually has a nice location. There's usually a decent real ale on. I've never really understood the gastro thing going on, but the earlier poster is quite correct in that it used to be a gastro pub. Personally, I find the baguettes a good bet, though a tad overpriced. I'd only go to this place on a good summer's day. Staff (from somewhere in Eastern Europe- most likely Poland) try hard and deserve to be cut a little slack. As I say, mellow place on a clement summer's day. Pride of Romsey was good. Kroney can go down just fine. Just don't expect a gastro experience.

This pub has great character and serves very good beer, unfortunately most of it is given over to the restaurant, so if you want a drink you'll probably have to stand; though, if the weather's good the beer garden is very nice. The serving staff is largely Polish and very friendly.
The real letdown for this pub is its restaurant. Food is generally badly cooked using cheap ingredients and with heavy reliance on the microwave - chewy 'flaky' pastry, anyone? The results are uninviting. What's worse is that the prices are more in line with a gastro pub; and, before they changed hands, this is precisely what the pub used to be. It's a real shame it's gone downhill since.

Perfectly nice place with decent food and a few real ales. A bit out of the way, so not worth a trip, but a good place to stop if you are in the area.

Went here the other day for the first time. It wasnt too bad in my opinion. I had two pints of Pride of Romsey which were good and a pie that was ok, nothing special. My girlfriend had a veg.lasagne which even though im meat meat meat, i have to say was excellent.
I know what u mean about the staff though, was only one english guy training up a couple of foreign girls, but the service was ok (however i went at a very quiet time, only about 10 people in the whole pub)
Only problem was they tried charging me for a pint of kroney i didnt have and when i explained to the girl i had drunk 2 pints of Romsey, she still only charged me for one.. i wasnt going to complain.

My Family and I went to the Queens head hoping for an evening meal two weeks ago and what a disappointing, terrible time we had that after still no service by 9pm! We just had to call it a day and leave!
The bar service for drinks was in a terrible mess, one guy trying to pour drinks at a snails pace whilst three other members of staff stood around fighting over tea towels to dry glasses whilst the customers simply waited at the bar. We waited for 30 mins at the bar before calling it a day in getting a drink, it was totally un-acceptable service.
The owner / manager was to be found in the garden, without a care in the world tending to some B-que, he either had no idea of the mess inside his bar or he simply wasnt that bothered!
The broken English waitress told us after a further half an hour that we needed to order our food at the bar (later according to the manager this wasnt the case!) when we did get to order (I had to go and get the menus and take the whole order up to the bar) we where informed that two of the main meals and one of the starters had run out! - By this time my patience had also run out so we left and went for a very late but rather lovely meal at a restaurant down the road (we should of gone there in the first place) and it seems that we werent the only ones as a couple we recognised from the Queens head had also left as the service was so terrible!!
I would never recommend this pub again which is a shame as it use to be very nice. They need some staff training, management / direction and some people who do actually speak English working in the bar etc.

This used to be a fantastic boozer, rain or shine. These days it's more, nay, totally a foodie place, but still top notch!

Superb food and a huge selection although quite pricey. A very tranquil location for sitting outside in the summer with a beer.
Booking food in advance is almost always necessary.
