Disgusting place. Rude, abusive staff. Don't go near - there's a pub next door, go there. Plenty of other pubs showing football and sports too in Beckenham. This place deserves to fail.

I am disgusted with the management and staff at this place. A friend was marched out of the pub (without even having had a drink) by the owner and bouncer because the woman behind the bar is an ex of his from fourteen years ago. I am lost for words that a bar lady can dictate who can drink in this pub. So childish and unprofessional. A disgrace!

Arrogant, pretentious and unfriendly bar staff. Nothing particularly Irish about the place. No creamy Irish ale on tap, just over-priced Guinness and lager. Has Sky sports, but so do lot's of other places. Rip of prices as well. AVOID along with O'Neil's next door.

Awful - sworn at repeatedly for arriving 10 minutes AFTER the place was due to open and over charged for soft drinks. Why? Because the landlord didn't believe non-alcohol drinkers spent as much as boozers.

Seeing as this is predominantly a sports pub (and I'd been before for some average evening pints), and not everybody wants to get on it early afternoon, AND the mark-up pubs could make on cola etc., I was astounded. The rudeness was entirely uncalled for and I hope the pub suffers.

Very good as a sports pub, TV screen everywhere showing up to 3 different programmes at a time.

Not the sort of place you would go for a drink with your girlfriend during I don't think. However it is good for a late night boogey. Now I know it's an Irish pub but it would be nice if they could do proper beer or two. I know very few people that drink John Smiths Extra Smooth as all these sort of places seem to dispense. Also the fizzy stuff they do sell is quite pricey.

Decent outside smoking area and toilets pretty decent too.

I have been working oversea for the last 2 years and now back in the home town of Beckenham and you know what this place has just got better. The sport coverage now must be one of the best in South London with good cold decent beer be it a pint or a bottle. The selection of bottled beer must be the best place in town. The toilets are as clean as ever. Good crowd no young chavs and thank God no attitude like next door in O Neils. Excellent door policy and when the football is on they do not tolerate the lemonade and coca cola gang, who the drink the melting ice and take up space, watch the ice melt, suck the bubbles , all in 2 hours. A good example of this is one of the last postings, NJ201, I was there she was ordered a tap water, lets set the record straight, HOW RUDE CAN SHE BE.

Good variety of music on the weekends and excellent staff, you dont wait too long here to get served no matter how busy.

Great place for a good drink, no kids, good doormen and tv in the beer garden, quality.

Patrick is a top bloke and always makes you feel welcome, thank God all the trash and cheap skates go to O Neils, just makes this place better, typical example one of the last posts NJ2010

I noticed a guy staring at me from the end of the bar - if I was in a bad mood Id have asked what he was looking at - but later on I saw him collecting glasses, so either he works there/owns it - or just likes helping people put glasses on the bar. Anyway - not too bad, Im not a sports type person but THIS place IS - but thats ok - the decor etc was alright, I might even go as far as saying its the best pub in Beckenham - much better atmosphere than O'Neills next door - but I went in the afternoon on a week day - my brother tells me later on it gets VERY busy - so go midday/afternoon if you want a quiter drink.

DON"T GO UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF! Went to Patrick's on Sunday to watch the football with a friend, have been to the place several times on a Saturday night for a few drinks before heading on further but on Sunday I wasn't drinking as I had been out the night before. I've noticed before that Patrick's can be on the expensive side but never had I expected 6.00 for an orange and a soda water!! When I challenged the bar lady (thinking that surely she had made a mistake) she confirmed that in fact that was the correct price! I then had two others say they had only paid 6.50 for two pints of Fosters and that was alcohol! I was totally dumbfounded as to how this could be so decided to ask the landlord who was perched at the end of the Bar. I politely asked Patrick the Manager why he was charging so much for water and orange his reply was "if you want a free drink go home and have one", "this bar doesn't run itself you know!" I replied "do I look like I want a free drink after paying 6.00 for two soft ones?" and asked him why he was being so rude when I was simply asking a question to which he replied "I'm telling you if you don't like it leave"! I didn't want to make a scene and embarrass myself and he probably would have got me chucked out and people would have assumed I was drunk! I wish! At least it would have cost me less! On talking to the other people in there I learnt that in fact Patrick decides what he charges people, regulars get a pint for 3.00 others have to pay 3.50, he also has a bar in Crystal Palace that's losing money. It's now apparent that's may be why he has such a rude and ignorant mannerism. about him. I myself come from a big Irish family, Patrick's should be representing the warmth and friendly manner of the Irish renowned the world over but unfortunately Patrick the Manager has made a mockery of this. Such a shame because I and several other people I know will not venturing into Patricks anymore out of sheer principal. It will be O'Neills now because although it can be a bit young, it has better music, cheaper drinks and if your with the right people that's all you ever need.

Better than O'Neils next door (though that isn't saying much). Ideal pub to watch football/six nations in. Decent enough beer.

The previous reviewer makes a fair point. I've had some excellent nights in Patrick's but I've also had a night where my friend got started on for no reason. I've never had cause to complain about the beer and it has mostly been a good place to hang out.

Hit and Miss. Can sometimes be good and a laugh but at other times can be a bit verminous.

Loud, smokey and packed on weekends. Oh, did I mention ear-splittingly loudy music? Pardon me, for my ears are still ringing from the other night and I must have forgotten. Did I mention the smoke can be so thick you can't see from one end of the bar to the other on a bad night? Poor selection of slightly overpriced beer, though not nearly as costly as the Bridge Bar across the street or competitors such as La Rascasse. At least the pub has some atmosphere. A slightly older crowd frequents here as compared to O'Neills next door, and if you're in on time, the pub stays open late. In the end, it's one of the better choices in town
Wanker - 4 Jan 2007 14:45
Crowded, noisey and smokey - it certainly can be but that's usually confined to the weekend when most people prefer somewhere lively to spend their Saturday night. To be fair, i think one of the best things about this pub is its varying atmosphere - a relaxed, quiet pub for a few pints after work during the week changing to a popular, lively bar at the weekend with a great mix of music. Messers aren't tolerated. Toilets are spotless. As for the real ale, its an Irish pub and understandably Guinness is king.

good wee blokey type pub. do a very decent pint and staff are nearly always efficient and pleasant, just some of em are sometimes a little surly and slow. good place for watching football and the toilets are nearly always very clean.
hazey - 20 Dec 2005 09:37
Hate to disagree with the comments so far, but here goes. Patricks is a noisy, smoke filled, lager louts dream! No real ale, just the usual choice of mind altering lagers. The TV was babbling on, and was so loud I couldn't even have a conversation, if I want to watch TV I can watch it at home.

Awwite everybody!! This is a great pub. Improving all the time clientelle wise. Behave son!

Great Guinness and Magners and always good for a Sunday Night grope or five. Only being friendly like.
I don't know how I get away with it. Behave son!!!

Patricks is my favourite place to booze all weekend. I always end up there. Especially on Super Sunday. I would recommend this place.

Fantastic place to chill out in especially the fireplace.

Have become friends with the owner; he likes me. A Boozer ; it's what I am.
anonymous - 24 Oct 2005 15:35
It's not really an imitation Irish pub as the owner is Irish and it's frequented by a few real Irish Guinness drinkers!! It's also not a chain, which I see as a plastic paddy requriement. That said, it has got some naff stuff on the walls and the outside colour scheme is very off-putting.

The staff are excellent and the facilities are spotless. As it's not huge, it doesn't take any time at all to get served and the selection of spirits is extraordinary.

It's easily the best place to go after a nightmare commute to Beckenham Junction!

i must had caught this place on a bad night, bar staff were good enough and it was busy, but not too busy. Few t*ssers in there though which was rather annoying - must of had too many guinesses.
Vavavoom1 - 26 Jun 2005 12:07
nice place, relaxed, no idiots, good cold beer, clean toilets, good provider of a range of sports on tv,various plasma screens and big screens, the bar staff are good you dont have to wait long for a drink even when it is really busy, also the staff are pleasant and female staff attractive. i have had a few sunday roasts and they were pleasing to the stomach. irish owned and run, not one of the fakes, well done
BECKENHAMFRED - 12 Jun 2005 22:37
An imitation Irish pub that is housed under empty flats and was knocked up cheaply with some Irish frippery on the walls. You know, an Irish rugby shirt and some Guinness beer mats on the wall, Hey presto - Irish bar. Seems to get totally packed though, so they must be doing something right.
walklim - 8 Apr 2005 10:34
Great stout! Reasonably priced and an excellent accompanyment to their Beef & Guinness Pie. I hadn't realise they served food but was told it was only at the weekend - I wouldn't have known this as normally I pop in for a quiet one during the week when it's the perfect place for the after-work wind down.
abyrne - 31 Mar 2005 15:06
An authentic Irish pub, not part of a chain. Sells excellent Guinness, and at a reasonable price (for Beckenham).
