Popped by in July for first visit in about 5 years. The pub was wedged, I say "Pub" but to be honest it feels a lot more like a restaurant with a bar now. The service at the bar was incredibly slow but like i said they were very busy with food orders etc. The butcombe gold was good but at 3.20pint it should be, 6/10

Pub currently closed looks like a refurb going on

Called back here again today with my Wednesday Luncher as he were under the weather. We tried the 2 x courses ffor 9-00 good value, He had the soup which he said as delicious and, I the pate. (the only 2 diners in also) at 12 noon gone.
The pate was straight from the packet fair enough, the salad garnish over dressed.
We both opted for the posh fish and chips, and, if I remember right from the Menu. " Fresh Fish and Mushy peas". I doubt the fish was fresh from the taste and, would have to say that the greasy battered portion that arrived looked grey and tasteless. The mushy peas were a dried up garden pea and mashed. again the salad was iver dressed. I did note a couple of new chefs, whom seemed to like to parade around the pub than the kitchen. The presentation of the food was otherwise good. I had, high hopes for this place a few months ago, bur now am not so sure.

Three of us popped in here yesterday for a quick light lunch, strangley enough we each ordered a Jacket potato A)cheese and Beans B) tuna mayonaise C) coronation chicken. Sad to say, that the 1st) disapointment came cheese no beans albeit this was corrected and apology given. 2nd on the same potato, was full of blackeyes, considering this had been cut open to melt the cheese over can only be described as a blatant oversight. 3rd) The toppings of the tuna and chicken were very meagre as was the side salad that accompanied it. The 5 plus for these items was surely OTT in the least. So now have to mark you down. Try asking or ensuring that meals served are adequate and up too standard.

I think james55westhead is correct, there is now new people running the pub and a new chef, so previous comments about the food may no longer be relevant. Personally Ive always found that this pub doesnt quite live up to its expectations. Its got a captive audience in the villagers of Kenn, and is on a busy road between Clevedon and Yatton, so maybe it doesnt have to try too hard to get the punters in.

The pub itself seems decent enough, with a couple of small bars having a fairly cosy feel to them and a suitably country pub look with plenty of wooden beams. On recent Saturday afternoon visit, the barman was busy playing the fruit machine when I arrived. Not really a problem I guess as there was nobody waiting, and he left it promptly enough. However, by the time he walked around the end of the bar someone else had arrived, and they got served first. The customer in question pointed this out, but he didnt say a word and just carried on serving them regardless. So, a few marks deducted for very poor service Im afraid.

Besides the two bars, theres a very large restaurant area. Theres little in the way of a garden as a large conservatory tacked on to the end of the restaurant has all but obliterated it. If you want to sit outside, youre stuck with a few benches at the front of the pub facing the road.

Mrs. Blackthorn was not happy about the lager choice, with Stella, Fosters and Carling on tap. I enquired about bottled lagers, but was told they didnt have any, even though I could clearly see Bud in the fridge. Beers were a fairly uninspiring Butcombe and London Pride. Ciders faired slightly better with Blackthorn, Thatchers Gold and Thatchers Traditional.

A little over 1 years since my last write up and visit and, wasn't very good then.
I have too say in all honesty that i was amazed on my entry, to be greeted and ushered to a table and told that they would take my drinks order also. My party and i ordered bothe drinks and meals, Drinks arrived promptly and were good. The meals arrived piping hot well presented and very tatsy to say the least .An excellent repossed was had by all, and can say i found this a 100% + improvement on my last visit. well done chefs and staff all round can now see why your busy again. although i suspect the previous incumbants are no longer there. I shall now start making visits back here.

We thought we would try again after a disappointing visit over a year ago. Being 4 in the party we arrived and were virtually ignored by 2 waitresses who did appear to be sorting something out at cash till but when seated the curt manner was not very welcoming.
As we were only seeking lunch and there were not too many tables occupied we were surprised that after obtaining garlic bread as a starter we waited well over 30 mins for the order to arrive. No indication had been given about the time of waiting so we were not prepared for this.
Having spoken to the Manager he assured us he would sort it out but we were then visited by a waitress who apologised but gave no explanation and simply said she would advise the chef!
Eventually the meals arrived and were well proportioned but not especially good standard.
There was a severe absence of attentiveness by the waitresses and getting the bill was not easy. We received no apology from the Manager and like most comments before we would not return on another occasion.

A surprise, but quick visit by a relative saw my Mother and i being taken here.It still has no great shakes for me.We were given Menus, and told that the pub had changed but still in the same familly..When it came to the order giving, albeit in part due to the complicated menu,it was like a Catherine Tate sketch..The prices don,t reflect the Quality, and is.. from what i saw and ate, just run of the mill pub grub..Food lukewarm at best, and it wasn,t busy either..If you can,t produce a 5.00 meal i certainly, wouldn,t pay over 10.00 for some of the items on the menu...I think this was and is my final time at this hostelry...and from the preious comments i am not alone........

we have been here many times to eat and drink and never been disapointed with the food or drink,so after an absence of 6 months and wanting to take our mother out for her 80th my brother and i plus other halves decided to go here for sunday lunch.upon arrival we were told the rest of the party had already arrived and that our drink orders could be taken at the table.we sat down chatting and over 10 mins later still no one had come to take our order 4 drinks or food,i tried to get the attention of one of 3 girls waitressing but they were to busy chatting to each other by the kitchen door so i went to the bar and got them myself.eventualy the meals arrived minus mine, was told there was a problem in the kitchen, but my baked potato was put in front of me to go cold,i asked if it could be taken back to be kept warm.when it re arrived with the main course it was nearly cold,as was my plate and every one elses.my gfs tart was only luke warm and the cheese sauce on my sister in laws chicken was stone cold.the only hot meals were my brothers and mothers both of whom had the sunday roast.finaly half way through eating it they brought out the veg plate that had been forgeton.all in all a special day ruined by poorly maintained food and appalling service at a not inconsiderable price.cannot belive how far this hostelry has fallen in so short a time.i will have to see some great reviews before we try it again

Agree with the last comments, this pub food wise has gone greatly down mthe hill, and no one seems to care, having said that, having waited for my pint whilst they change the barrel, only to be told that they had run out altogether was a dissater,if friends and rumours are to be believed,i could fill the gigabytes with similar of dismay regarding this establishment,,A no brainer in all depts from what i can see/hear////

I regularly eat at this pub with my Husband. We really enjoy the food. The staff all seem very nice and are always helpful!

Having visited this pub a year ago with the same party we cannot believe how bad the service, menu choice & quality of food has become.
We had to wait 1 hr and 40 mins for the first starter to appear then to be told some starters were not available. One order was missed off completly and when enquires were made about how long it was before the meals would be served the staff just shrugged there shoulders and said "nothing to do with us",when the manager was approached he offered no expanation.
As to the quality some was acceptable but most was overpriced for what we were recieving{e.gFish and chips with nothing else 12}.Presentation was poor ,one batch of chips ok ,second batch not cooked{raw}
For sure we will not be visiting this pub again a shme as in the past we have enjoyed our visits.
Word of advice to the manager ,when you have customers complaning come and speak to them dont run away and hide others your business will not last, remember best way to advertise your business is word of mouth ,here are 21 who will not be recommending your pub.You cant expect to put anything on a plate, overcharge ,poor service ,and for them to return

Beautiful pub. Looks gorgeous from the outside with all the hanging baskets. Inside is just as wonderful. Real olde world feel to it. Great atmosphere.

The staff are very pleasent. The food is wonderful-restaurant quality!

I've been on a few occasions for the buffet evenings-they are well worth a try. The shows are fantastic value as well. My mother in law is a regular for the Wednesday Night Quiz which she says is a laugh-never wins though!!

I recently ate at this pub. My family and I were served a marvellous Sunday roast. The food was cooked perfectly. The staff were very good with the children. The pub was extremely busy and so we found parking a little difficult although they do have a large car park. All round a 10 out of 10 for the food and service.

This pub came highly recommended and unfortunately caused great disappointment on our visit in Jan 08.
Those on our table who had the Sunday lunch ate a meal consisting of tinned cold potatoes and tough tasteless meat.
The steak and chips wasnt bad and the side orders were cooked beautifully.
The desserts took nearly an hour to arrive despite plenty of staff slowly milling about and were not worth the wait.

Good pub, very friendly waitress's (10 out of 10)
Nice location, busy this friday lunchtime with complaining OAPs all handled in a professional manner.
Omitted to charge for 2 drinks, 2 deserts and a side order, hence generous tip.
Bass ok

This is a good pub serving to locals and passing visitors alike. Real ale available in good condition. Excellent pub grub, especially on a Sunday and regular mid-week themed specials, Indian, Tapas etc. Part of the bar is a bit 'foody', however if you prefer your ale without food influence then there is a good 'snug' area to wet your whistle without the smell of grub. All round a good local.

Busy pub just in the countryside.with real ales/food.Service is quite good, but food can dissapoint, and on my visit they ran out of the real ale i was drinking, and it were only just 1 o,clock lunchtime. My fish lunch was expensive and,had suffered the blasting of the microwave, this ,with other food comments from friends and, relatives, have now turned me away, although i pass this place on a very regular basis, mainly on too better pubs further field.
