Just seen the review of Feb 2014. Never read such a load of rubbish in my life.
The management and staff go out of their way to make customers feel welcome.
With home cooked roast dinners served on Sundays and a very good chef providing decent meals during the week, it's the sort of venue Rochford has been missing, catering not just for the drinkers, but also now diners.
Top marks to the management of this establishment

New owners have gone in and ruined what was a good place. She's miserable, rude and quite frankly hasn't got a clue how to run a pub. Most of the staff are either friends or family so unless your face fits, you've got no chance. Stick with the Kings or HnG, much better!

Recently visited for their beer festival, good selection,of ales but poorly attended, a cider festival to be held there in July,we will certainly attend. However the owners have two large dogs who are allowed to wander around or sleep anywhere in this small pub, care is needed when eating, and carrying drinks. However this is a fine old pub and on a sunny day the secluded beer garden is a good idea.

This pub is the nearest to the station and probably has the lowest ceiling of all the local pubs. This gives it a particularly cosy feel and it can get very crowded on friday nights. Tends to attract the younger crowd with it's live music and young bar staff but none-the-less a mixed crowd can usually be expected. The beer is always OK - real ale usually from a choice of about 3 - and the pub has a lovely garden which is well hidden from the main road. I think I've underestimated this pub over the years and will make the effort to use it more frequently.

Excellent pub - one of the best in town with good management, regular and honest locals and ale of high quality. Service is usually first rate. Well worth a visit.

Nice pub, with plenty of charm. Managed to maintain its dignity while the rest of Rochford's pub community fell on hard times and poor management, which is credit to the landlady.
