Quite busy at time of visit with 3 ales on. Beer decent enough although the pub looking tired now,

This was OK enough, but we found the prices rather high.
There were two real ales on: Deuchars IPA and Marstons Pedigree. I though the various bits of artwork depicting gallowses, as the origin of the name, were a bit tired and unfunny, and didn't add any sort of quirky interest for me.
We didn't eat, but the food looked and smelled good enough.

One of only 2 pubs we visited on grassmarket and was well worth it. Not massive selection of ale but well served and quick considering they were rammed. Good old décor like most pubs in the city. Had a good selection of other alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks for your friends too - warmed port with honey and a 'pooh bear (hot milk, nutmeg, honey and cinnamon) both very nice.

Went here last Saturday evening. Very busy as you would expect so we sat outside on a chilly. No complaints about that as the atmosphere was great. Lots of stag and hen parties passing so that added to the enjoyment. Good choice of beer and whisky. Service was cheerful and welcoming so I will certainly call in here again when we next go to Edinburgh.

Good beer, Deuchar's IPA, check. Good food, check. Horrendous anti-immigrant racist barmaid - unfortunately, check. My visit was Monday 21 November. They have a comments blackboard in the gents so I chalked up my disgust and attached my twitter name @scotchtwit. No reply from the shameful people so far. I will not be returning to this pub unless this is resolved. Avoid.

Pretty reasonable pub. Prices are good for Edinburgh, 2.95 for Dark Island. Alarmingly, it came from a tap like pump so probably went through what I am reliably informed is called a 'sparkler', but it tasted fine. 60's music playing in the background at first, though this later changed to something indescribable. As is so often the way, the TV's were on throughout this, displaying a silent interview with Rihanna. The food range was limited, but solid pub fare.

I was there on Wed 18th. Had a few drinks and lovely veggie haggis (never had it before but really enjoyed it), served by a very good lookin' bar man with a bit of a beard. If you read this: me and my friends thought you were hot :D :D Besides that I really enjoyed the atmosphere in The Last Drop. It's got that darkness, cosiness and history to it. Loved it, thanks.

Always pop in here when in Edinburgh. Always good atmoshpere and staff are friendly. Canny little bar!

Can't agree with some previous posts. The beer (Deuchres IPA) was acceptable, the staff were fine. A pleasant way to spend an evening. The chalked messages above the urinals were amusing. A great place to go when the White Hart's live " music" makes conversation impossible.

A truly dismal pub. Arrogant doorstaff who act as if they are doing you a big favour letting you in. Abysmal service at the bar allied with poor beer. I won't make the mistake of ever coming here again. Why all the attitude, you're just serving drinks.

Busy and, as the reviewer below said, gets a lot of stag/hen parties. Despite tht, not the rip-off joint it could be and avoids the usual stag pub mistake of turning the music up to unbearable levels. Attractive building too.

Heck of a lot of stag parties & groups of lads from south of the border in here, but theres a decent party mood round most of the pubs here.

My sisters and I had a great time in Edinburgh seeing the sites and visiting the pubs. I made it to quite a few pubs but not one of them made me feel as welcome and comfortable as The Last Drop! (I didn't feel like a tourist.) Thanks Jim and Big Ian! Can't wait til my next visit. In the meantime, if you make it to the states, give us a call. Marianne

One of the better Grassmarket boozers,it still has its fair share of students, squaddies and tourists(3 of the most common inhabitants of the Grassmarket) The food is ok,the haggis is popular. They have a black board and chalk in the toilet so you can do your own graffiti leagaly,so mind bring a good old fashioned marker pen to scribble shite on the back of the toilet door.

Loved this Bar. Right by the youth hostel and a place with some History behind it... and infront of it as well.
|
A fine place to stop in and have an extra cold Guinness. Varied clientele, but good atmosphere and is in a good location: close to the Royal Mile, other pubs in the Grassmarket, etc. Place has a great history to be discussed.

great place for having a beer ... take a foreign bank-bill with you.
