In contradiction to Blue Scrupy, I felt this was one for the locals deep in the most touristy part of Edinburgh. Must depend on timing! Large pub with just a handful of regulars. Good whisky choice and a handful of real ales. Deuchars in good form.

Came here early on Monday afternoon. It was packed with tourists eating. I felt a bit uncomfortable drinking on a table and surrounded with diners. It felt my like a restaurant that served ales. But this is prime tourist territory. Ales on were Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Sharps Doom Bar, Tetleys No. 1 High Street, Atlas Meridian, Williams Brothers Birds & Bees & Orkney Dark Island. Cider was Rosie's Pig. Possibly better outside of prime dining hours. But I didn't want to hang around here for too long.

Still known as No.1 and another pub with some character and slightly reminscent I felt of a Nicholson's pub (but perhaps it was because I had just been in one of theirs). I had a pint of Loch Ness's eponymous 80' which was better than the pint in the previous pub and may have had something to do with the Cask marque status here. Stewarts 80' was again on sale as was Doom Bar, Orkney's Atlas Range Wayfarer and a "Number 1 Ale". Cider was Weston's Rosie's Pig. There was going to be live music at 8.15pm but we had moved on by then.

Now known as No1 Bar/Restaurant - fearful when I saw the this but on entering it was generally same layout - 7 ales on the go, fine selection of Malts and still live music on a Fri night...oh, and the toilets have been done up. Went back on the Tuesday night and the ale I had (alchemy) was off - they changed it no qualms.

A fine Pub catering for locals and tourists alike. four beers and real Cider (Thatchers). Stewarts No 3 and Cairngorm Tradewinds were in finr condition and my wife enjoyed the Cider. A fine Pub.

Qirky pub on Royal Mile. Had 4 ales on when I was in Tass 80/, Deuchars IPA, Orkney Dark Island and Atlas Lattitude. Good mix of locals and tourists, Live music on Fri nights. Good pub 8/10.

Good selection of real ale - 5 handpumps; Warlock Stout, Double Dark Oatmeal Stout, CoronationSt, Fireside Ale, Stewarts IPA. The stouts were very well kept but not so sure about the others, IPA was a bit flat.
Ate a Christmas lunch which was ok but nothing special and not quite worth the 14. But y'don't get much for 14 on the Royal Mile! 3.10 a pint! I refer the honourable gentleman to my previous comment.

OK - nothing special. 3.05 for a guest beer (Rivet Catcher) which is fairly pricey. Nothing offensive about the staff though nothing that would make me want to revisit either !

This place has all the atmosphere of a bus shelter. Much better off across the road at the World's End.
Previous poster should have reported Chef's behaviour to whatever chain owns the bar.
