Re visited as went with other people on Tuesday who didn't fancy eating. Having eaten here before returned next day as we really fancied the beef stew and dumplings. WHAT A MISTAKE !!!! The stew contained one solitary dumpling and the whole thing was dense in salt and could have been eaten with just 4 spoonfuls. Never felt so cheated. Paid £12 pounds for 8 spoonfuls of salty slop. Only had strongbow cider on tap as well. Was my second favourite pub in York. No longer. Won't be returning.

Pub number 4 and after walking down Mickelgate and turning left we come to The Society Bar, no way am I going in there so I cross the road and enter The Corner Pin.
The Marston’s pub has 3 pumps, offering 3 ales and I opt for a pint of Cumberland from Jennings. Decent enough pint but the server is a bit miserable.
I take my drink and look for somewhere to sit, it’s all a bit stuffy inside so I had to the large garden at the side of the pub and find myself a table.
The pub is busy again with race goers', quite a few drunk people by this time, the chatter is loud and there’s a few tw*t’s out in the garden.
I finish my beer and had outside to meet the others, not a bad pub but this wouldn’t be on my radar for another visit.

Three cask ales, could have been a decent pub but (without warning) they decided to close an hour early due to being "too quiet"! After all, a pub's there for the convenience of the staff rather than the customers, isn't it? A trip round the corner to the Maltings found a full pub with every seat taken at exactly the same time as the Corner Pin had closed early due to being too quiet... I wonder why?!

Interesting small bar area - found some sofa seating - very comfortable 6 pints of Wychwoods Dirty Tackle (must say something for the beer) - very nice indeed. (Didn't fancy the Brakspears) Good condition and temperature - most enjoyable Seemed a student type place (no problem with that) Occasionally, a little smokey - drifting in from outside area Overall a very pleasant, nothing fancy, small back street pub - food menu (untried) looked good pub grub. For what it is - very good and worth trying

Called in last night with fingers crossed as our last visit, albeit some time ago, was disappointing. Panic over, the beer was in fine form and the pub was busy enough at 6.45pm. Excellent Hobgoblin from Wychwood and a very good Christmas Pudding Ale on show, among others. Friendly bar staff too!! Keep up the good work. Back on the visiting menu.

Great back street pub with a good choice of real ale, half of the pub has been turned into a restaurant now, still has good old york pub charm though.
|
Nice pub with a good choice of beer in excellent condition. Freindly bar staff

Had Jennings Cumberland & Hobgoblin on during my visit. Food was reasonable in price and generously sized. Quite a large pub, with a conservatory type area to the side, with a beer garden also.
|
A quiet pub but still fairly big inside (not such a bad thing in this part of town). A couple of real ales and relaxed surroundings, much better than the likes of Reflex, Nexus etc just a couple of minutes away.

Has the familier "Pub to let" sign outside which is becoming all too common around York these days, can't see it ceasing to be a pub but can see it changing for the worse as it's in the stag night square area.

Very quiet Sunday afternoon, music playing in the backgroundb beer was excellent. There was three real ales on tap. Everards Tiger, Jennings Sunflower and Adnams Explorer, tasted all three and no complaints, pity its not visited more often.

great for a few swift lunchtime pints if you're unlucky enough to work at norwich union (i found beer numbs the pain of office life)

Bar was not busy but took ages to get served with a pint of warm wee wee! Will pop in next giro day, should be more fun then!

I was pleasantly surprised by this pub, not at all what I was expecting. The main bar is very traditional in appearence with some nice ales on and pretty good prices. While connected to it is a fairly obvious extension into a nice, more modern conservatory. While this was a bit strange it is still a nice pub, relaxed and friendly.
