Would agree with Ian in that the pub is very clean, worryingly so. I witnessed one of his colleagues take a swipe at a patron with an empty bottle of WolfBlass for dropping a pistachio shell on the floor.....

too narrow for my liking!

Live in this area and after reading this may just pop in with my partner. Co-incidentally someone suggested meeting up at the pub this evening eating before hand at the local indian. Might just give Kingsley a visit one weekday evening when it is quieter. thanks

Hi Beerintheevening team. I'm Ian Bonham, assistant manager at the Lord Byron. I guess I'm not really allowed to comment on my bar but I thought I'd send you some info on the bar, 'specially as I read Reggio's comments about bar stools being chucked about! What rubbish!

Our bar is a nice little bar in Kingsley, Northampton, just opposite St Matthews Church, so we get a lot of wedding parties in at lunchtimes on saturdays during the summer. It's a conversion of an old NatWest bank (Oh dear, my branch has been turned into a tendy wine bar...?) so we don't have an underground cellar as the bank had it filled with concrete. However this gave McManus a chance to build a state of the art cellar around the back. Being a Burton Cellar Master, I am glad as it lets me keep real ale superbly.

It is a narrow bar with leather booths along your left hand side as you walk down the bar, and correct, they are cosy! We also do have sofas and a nice frontage, where you can sit and watch the world go by. I find it really nice sitting out there in summer (as I live down the street, it was my local before I started working there), cretin watching is great! There are 4 tables on the front, and with St Matthews Church imposing on you, it almost feels slightly European sitting out there. It certainley doesn't feel like Kingsley!

We work hard to keep the place clean, and the manager is strict on standards. It's tidy, well kept, and I am shocked at the amount of comments we get asking if we have just opened as it looks so nice. We've been there 3 years now. The manager and I share the same view, in that if you go into a pub thats a craphole you never go back. We work HARD to make sure the Byron's a nice place to drink.

We serve 1664, Fosters, Stella, and Bud as draught lagers (Not Bud on draught, it's rare! but a lovely pint), Smiths Smooth, Strongbow as gassy stuff. Trads are Courage Best and Marstons Pedigree. We started stocking Pedigree after I started as I trained at Martons in Burton on Trent, and know how to keep it. Bitch of a beer to look after, and it doesn't travel, but if your lines are right and the cellars right you can do it. Come try a pint, and accuse me of lying!?

Hope we will c u soon, and the Beer In The Evening team are missing out not visiting! BITE team, ask for Ian and we'll have a chat, anyone else? I have the best bar staff in the World! Use 'em!

Best regards,
Ian Bonham

Very friendly bar staff, nice surroundings and good to be able to sit outside and watch the world go by. Nice and cosy inside.

Nice and cosy leather booths, but don't go on a match day, due to small stools being chucked about.
