A pleasant and warm place to spend an hour on a wet Sunday. 9 beers (sometimes 10) all served straight from the cellar. I had Bullard's IPA, a recreation of an old Norwich name, which I didn't know had come back, but very flavoursome. Well worth a visit.

Old coaching inn that was fairly busy on our Saturday lunchtime visit. It seemed to be popular with football fans both heading to Carrow Road and also watching the early kick off on the TV. Beers are dispensed by gravity. Yesterday's selection was Woodfordes Wherry, Nelson's Revenge & Mardlers, Adnams Southwold Bitter, Wolf Golden Jackal & Greene King IPA & Abbot. A fairly reasonable place.

As the previous post we stayed in the tlodge nearby and this was a great nearby gem of a pub, the pint of Wolf ale was delicious, 7/10

Stayed in the Travelodge across the nearby roundabout and this pub was a joy to find! Real fire, excellent ales as described below and a good (but traditional) food menu. Had a few games of darts (provided by the pub) and many pints. Excellent!!

I must agree with the previous comments about the location of the Coachmakers Arms. IMHO it is definitely on the WRONG side of the Norwich inner ring road.
To reach the pub from the city centre means either running the gauntlet with the traffic to try to cross the busy road or chance being mugged in one of the alternative pedestrian subways. Admittedly in daylight the subways seem pretty safe, but there is *NO* way that I would use them at night.
As for the pub itself, there is little to add to previous reviews. GK-IPA, Abbott, Wherry and Golden Jackal, all straight from the barrel were available when we visited. My pints of Wherry were tip-top.
No problems with the food either. Our meals were freshly prepared, nicely presented and not bad value for money.

Pleasant enough visit on 08 August to this traditional pub. Four ales available from the casks with cooling behind the bar; Wolf Golden Jackal, Wherry, GK IPA and Abbott available. Most of the other customers all used the large beer garden to the rear.

A proper pub, which sadly is a rarity in Norwich city centre these days. Good selection of ales including many from Norfolk, nice garden and heated covered courtyard, dart board, well priced traditional food (healthy portion of bangers and mash for a fiver etc, no balsamic vinegar or garnishes of fresh dill to be seen) and a large screen which is pulled down for big matches only, no excessively loud music, and few tracksuit/baseball cap wearers present. More pubs should be like the Coachmakers.

Not sure what the problem is about the location per the previous posting, didn't stop me going and I 'm not sure why it should do any one else.
The Coachmakers is a largish coaching inn style pub close to the old city walls just over a roundabout from a main shopping thoroughfare.
The interior has a nice traditional feel and there's a pleasant outside drinking courtyard at the back.
Unusually, beer is served on gravity straight from the barrel - GK Abbott, IPA, Woodforde's Wherry and Wolf Golden Jackal on my visit early Friday evening visit.
The "background" music seemed a bit loud, but could be avoided by moving to the outside courtyard.
The beer was on form and the pub in listed in the 2009 GBG.
Finally, whilst I enjoyed the visit and would probably return, I think that the GBG description of this as "a pub that is not to be missed" is probably overstating the case somewhat.

Jackel on gravity was ace! Pity about the location.
|
Fair range of beers available including Wolf and Woodfordes served on gravity.
|
Nice pub with bare brick walls. Some beers are gravity served and always good.
