Friendly enough staff, but would rate this as more of an eatery than a watering hole. Nice beer garden and dog friendly. Good pint of ale, never tried the food, tad too expensive for my depleted wallet.

Good drop of beer and friendly bar staff. The food looks good as well and I will be back to try it very soon. This place was a bit forlorn for a long time but the new management have managed to give it a thorough overhaul without losing any of it's charm. One to watch...

The energetic, enthusiastic landlords of The White Horse should be praised for their imaginative and well executed redesign and redecoration of the interior and exterior of this old building, leaving no stone unturned. In doing so they have created a very comfortable and relaxing enviroment in which to enjoy lunch or dinner or just a drink at your leisure.
I have on all my visits here, found the staff welcoming, friendly and accommadating and at the same time professional.Even the pub dog,a small West Highland White Terrier seems to know how to behave and doesn't impose herself too much on diners.
The food is as equally impressive and comforting as the surroundings, on my last visit I chose what was a well presented, warm smoked trout salad, then followed by a perfectly cooked succulent Gressingham duck breast and couldn't resist a very fresh tasting, zingy, lemon posset.
I'm so glad The White Horse has been given a promising new life and is definitely a very worthy addition to any list of good suffolk dining pubs.
I can't wait for my next visit, especially with summer on the way, perfect!.

We went to the White Horse recently and had a great evening. The evening started with a very warm welcome and some drinks by the fire followed by excellent food and wine. The pub has got a great interior which creates a nice relaxing atmosphere. We would thoroughly recommend it.

Terrible place. I came in without my top on and they asked me to leave. I offered to drink outside but they were arrogant. Never again. Useless food I hear.

This is not really a pub - they actively discourage drinkers - and the food quality is inconsistent. Some friends had 'the best ever fish & chips' but our food was not up to standard - maybe a lack of finesse and/or experience in the kitchen. We were also rushed through to the extent that two attempts were made to clear the table before we had finished eating.

One of the bar staff appeared unable to smile and another was full of slightly arrogant joviality.

Overall, looks nice when you walk in, but room for improvement in all departments.

Came in for a Pint but made to feel extremely unwelcome. Seems you have to be a middle-class wine-imbiber to feel at home here. Not for ordinary folk.

New friendly freehouse. Warm and cosy, log burner, real ale, excellent food, more of a restaurant these days, but still room for drinkers by the fire especially in the early evening.

Fantastic food, friendly welcome - best pub we have been to for ages and the best food. Delightful mix of traditional and modern where you can also just enjoy a pint and a good glass of wine (reasonably priced).

...Or the Compasses at Stansfield perhaps.

I'm looking forward to visiting the White Horse as I very much enjoyed the Beehive at Horringer. But disappointed to read that drinkers are not encouraged. Sometimes you just want a pint and a bag o' nuts...

Huge improvements in the building and a transformation from its previous grim existence - but sadly it's no longer a real pub and drinkers seem to be poorly catered for.

In spite of the gushing comments by Julie Millar - incidentally a PR woman who sent the very same press release out to local media - and the promise of a bar, there was nowhere at a weekend lunchtime simply to stand around and drink without getting in the way.

The much-touted "zinc" is simpy a small table-filled service area used by waiting staff.

The sadly-unstoppable surge towards gastro-pubs in this part of Suffolk has been relentless and it is terrific that some horrible time-warped places are being saved and dragged into the 21st century

But unfortunately few of these "make-over" places continue to give a nod to the traditional drinker who may not want a bowl of soup for a fiver, a bit of fish for a twelve quid or pud for another fiver.

But if you are looking for a village pub that has successfully achieved the knack of being both somewhere to eat simply but well - and a proper pub - go that extra mile or two to the Queen's Head at Hawkedon.

Friendly run village pub. Never enough customers though...
