Definitely the best pub in Thetford.. we stayed in the bell hotel which is also recommended. On initial inspection, Mr spoons Red Lion has killed a few Thetford pubs (The Kings head and Dolphin were closed, with the Ark almost demolished!) The Black Horse however was charming.. really knowledgeable staff, wide beer choice and great food. Sun trap front garden and manicured back with cabins trying to adjust to a post covid world.. The virus however couldn't contain Ringwood Razorback, Nethergate venture, Bombardier and more!!! Long live he revolution!!

And the food is excellent! Mixed grill with 6 different meats and only £16

So clearly we need to bring the reviews back up to date. Friendly local pub close enough to town to make it worth the walk. Good varied pub menu for food along with specials board, but this evening that had been mainly sold out. There is a large to showing sport, but enough areas to avoid it if you are not that way inclined. 5 beers on hand pump along with the usual silver T bar for the gassy stuff. GK IPA, Woodfordes Wherry, Upham punter, Tribute and Humpty Dumpty. The Punter is a good classic Amber bitter and was in top condition. Well worth a visit. Busy for a mid week evening.

Took the Wherry back as it was cloudy - and you always get one local who thinks it's okay don't you. "That looks clear to me" - the kind who back up their local right or wrong and would say a pint of Guinness with an Oxo cube centrifuged in it was clear. Too many of us put up with second rate stuff and think we are helping out the landlord by drinking the dregs. The barrell was on it's way out and they changed it for Tribute - which was drinkable.

Very nice, very friendly local with good beer (although it could do with a wider range) and food. Service was quick and it's nice to see well-behaved children encouraged.

Correction to my last post..should read St Austell Tribute

Yes best pub I visited last Saturday lunch time with good number in attendance. Good service two. There are 4 hand pulls. They had this new low alcohold beer Tolly English Ale which I tried and found it to be quite nice for 2.80 a pint. Stayed and tried a pint of the Woodfords Werry @ 2.85 and very nice that was too. The other beers on sale were GK IPA and Sharps Tribute.

a proper pub. always busy which is a good sign!

Best pub in town. Woodfordes Wherry was good (all the other beers were run of the mill). Food was good and cheap. Worth the walk out of town.

Was in this pub for Sunday Lunch, the first time I've been in for at least 10 years. They had three beers on Orkney Dark Island, Woodfordes Wherry and GK IPA. Tried the Dark Island and the Wherry both were excellent. Food was very good and good value. The staff and the locals were all very freindly. Probably the best pub in Thetford currently.

The publican, who also runs the Green Dragon, is one of the friendliest in town. The food is excellent, the beer is wonderful. The patrons are also great. Especially a little old man who comes in from the country once a week because his village has no pub.
