Very much geared towards a dining experience now with a newly decorated bar and restaurant. Clean and tidy in a way it never was before, but it seems to be lacking in customers these days.
The beer is excellent though.
Food?...it's good, but very slow service and a long, long wait if they're busy. Tricky to fit in for a lunch hour.

Well it looks like they found some matches to light the fire. Three beers Otter Bitter, Amber and the uninspiring Hobgoblin. The Bitter was nice but then at 3.60 a pint, it should be. Lunchtime sandwiches with chips come in at just under 6 and are okay. Is it me or is there a lack of seats in this place? Check out the newly opened section of The Wey and Arun Canal further down the lane.

Yet another wannabe Gastro pub! This is a real shame that once again people want to change the market that there pub is aimed at.
Fact 1 The three compasses was a good boys pub , not a place to take a lady to but a proper boozer
Fact 2 The three compasses was never amazing food but was good pub grub at pub prices
All the above is finished the cheapest main course is 10.90 and is laughable, they want to be a Gastro then serve decent wine not the rubbish currently being sold! and light the fire!
It is a shame that they have tried to change it but I hope they realise sooner than later that this mix just doesnt work or I fear that yet enough local pub will go bust again.

A great traditional pub, which recently has changed hands. Decor, bar, kitchen and toilets been upgraded, a lot brighter. Still focussing on 3 real ales, decent cider and there is a good selection of wine. Staff and regulars seem friendly enough and the food was of a good standard. Its worth a visit.
keep going tony, best real ales around. if we all act now this won't end like the crown....and a gem be lost forever.
real olde rustic and going down the swanny. Not enough people using this place. real shame as Tony is a real character. Going back on the market as so many pubcos pubs are. wake up and help the pubs.
A real olde country pub rustic and all.Beers on top form, I think there were 3 available on our visit.
Fond memories of visiting here for the bar billiards (none now, sadly).
Very nice rural pub that has been unspoiled by change. 3 real ales were on - WJ King Kings Old Ale, Ringwood Old Thumper and Sharps Doom Bar. The cider was Westons Stowford Press. A large inglenook fireplace with an open log fire dominates the bar area which has parquet flooring and is where the locals congregate. At the other end is a carpeted area with pictures on the walls of the local Dunsfold aerodrome. Friendly place that I could quite happily return to.

Like something out of the film ` The Wickerman`

A lovely tucked away little pub with very friendly service and great beer. The kids' play area is also well situated to be near enough for those who need to keep an eye on their children, without being so close that it annoys those that don't!

My first visit to the Three Compasses despite having lived in the area for years. We went on the recommendation of the landlady at the Sun in Dunsfold as we managed to turn up too late for lunch there - the Compasses serves all day.
Locals and staff were very friendly, excellent HSB and Horsham Bitter (they also had Fortyniner and one other that I don't remember on tap). Sunday lunch was excellent - not gastro, but just honest traditional roasts etc, with good fresh vegetables. Roast belly of pork particularly good.
There is a function room that is full of prints and photos from the old Hawker/BAe test station at Dunsfold Aerodrome.
Also, do not miss Mac, a very handsome German Shepherd who likes to sleep Snoopy-like, on top of his kennel.
And for the dialectologists out there, this pub appears to be one of last strongolds of the near-extinct West Surrey accent (no, it's nothing like what you are thinking)

Mike52....the landlord (Tony Davis) is more than a bit of a character, he's some kind of institution in his own right. I've known him since I was a child in the 1950s ! One of the best real country pubs in south west Surrey. I also agree with simon99, the locals are something to behold and tell your grandchildren about !
good beer, shame about the food and some of the clientelle are a bit strange.
i would definitely recommend this pub for a quick lunch time bite or a pint on the way home from work
the landlord is a real character, comes straight out of the 1970's. the beer is good.
above average for village pub standards
Nice Guinness. Nice people. Lovely open fire. Thank you :-)
This pub is a gem. The beer is first class and the locals very kind indeed. I didn't try the food but it looked good and was cheap compared to nearby competitors - they even had pre-prepared rolls available from the bar (we all remember that, don't we, until 'Elf & Safety took over). I will certainly be going back.
All in all a rustic gem, beer good food same and they don`t eat there young, worth a visit.7/10

I would suggest username billblue (24 July) has written a very accurate review below. Recent postings are pure nonsense. No neil10 I don't have a vested interest in any pub and never have. I do however have a strong dislike for those who write pure offensive rubbish about communities of decent people they have little knowledge of. ps, the pub has a novel smokers area with an original idea for heating !!

i agree everyone has their own opinions, so maybe neil10 should not be so quick to judge
biker needs to be more open minded and appreciate everyones comments. the other pubs in the village are very good. i have been drinking around this country for many years and have a pretty good idea when it comes to pubs. it is a shame he feels it so important he sticks up for one pub so earnestly, could it be he has a vested interest in this particular venue? be the judge for yourself and try this pub.....then we'll see who is being honest.
I notice the previous strange review was written by someone who joined this site on the 2 Nov and has only commented on this pub ! Is it just possible said individual is a disgruntled customer or competitor ? Visitors, click on usernames and you will see where others have been and what they've said about other pubs. This pub and the Crown are actually very good country pubs irrespective of what idiots like the previous reviewer say.

this should be in the wild west. don't go here unless you bring security....the locals don't look friendly.
The pub fell silent as I opened the door and we walked to the bar to the sound of our footsteps. However, the service was polite enough and the food quite good. Not very welcoming though
With 6 companions I visited this pub today for lunch after a 6 mile morning stroll. The service was friendly and helpful and other customers were happy, cheerful and civilised. The food was very good value, wholesome and welcome for hungry strollers. The puddings were excellent. My bread and butter pudding was delicious. We shall return to this pub.
Well worth the journey to have a very good beer and lunch at very good value.
Great selection of beers and lagers.
Actually sat inside as it was too hot (for us ) in the SUN outside. Great friendly pub atmosphere without having tables ( in the bar area ) too close together.
There is a more formal dining area plus areas to sit at both front and back.
Will certainly be returning.
really nice for a pub lunch and a friendly pint.
The Captain run`s a very good bozzer worth a visit beer well kept and food good.
Nice pub. Ales are well kept and has a nice country pub atmosphere about it. Haven't tried the food, so can't comment but don't expect anything more than pub grub!
Interestingly, this pub is located right on the outskirts of Dunsold Park which is where Top Gear is filmed - you never know, you might spot Clarkson and his cronies in The Three Compasses having a sly one before heading off on one of their farcical "races" across Europe!
