Froize Inn, Chillesfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
My group was so impressed that they said "When can we go again". I think that says it all.

Shame they have ruined this amazing pub and restaurant........ and created a ambient free expensive (15) "carvery." Food was tasty but cold. Prices were not displayed! No alternatives for lunch time, ie sandwiches. and no chips for walkers! No drinkers in the bar, which also tells a tale. Only one fish dish and Vegetarian option unappetising. Sorry Froize.....felt like a cafeteria!

The thing about the Froize Inn is that it's not really an actual pub in any meaningful sense. We were out walking at lunchtime and dropped in looking for a pint to fuel us for the next few miles. What we found was a restaurant with a bar. The barman served us cheerfully enough; we didn't feelparticularly unwelcome and the beer was perfectly good, but almost the entire place was set for lunch. It's not aimed at casual drinkers.
I have no reason to think it's anything other than a good restaurant, and you could do a lot worse if a semi-formal lunch is what you want.
But it's not a pub

Not open for half the week - only at busy times - landlord very anti kids - even in the garden (he came out from behind his buffet - dressed in chef's gear and complained that the kids were climbing in his trees)
Used to be very good (Ally Shaw days - who got the brown tourist sign directing you there) now only OKish - unless you want to eat the landlords buffet - and are "respectable" older clients.
Families beware - don't rely on it being open all week.

Good buffet food, generous portions, cheerful staff. I've been in more atmospheric pubs, but as long as you get here before it fills up, this is a great place to bring the family, the in-laws etc.

No smoking. No loitering at the bar. The food can't be faulted, although there is a school cafeteria atmosphere. I would happily take a Sunday School outing here, but not my wife.
