Not your classic pub nor really your classic shop conversion layout either. Toilets are up a narrow flight of stairs, Bar area is a bit through other and there is an area where you can look at the passing street traffic. The Church End SR was a pretty good pint though.

Bit of a strange place this one. The bar is immediately on the left as you enter, and the area around it is very dark. So much so that although there were 5 beers on tap, I couldn’t make out what one of them was ! Luckily one of those I could see was Bank Top Port o’Call, so I chose that it was very nice. Further away, the pub was much brighter inside. I chose to sit about halfway between the two areas, in about the only palce that was out of reach of the many dogs around ! Judging by the looks I got from some of the clientele, I suspect I was sitting in the seat of some regular – it was that kind of place. There was a heavy metal jukebox playing constantly, which managed to achieve the almost impossible feat of making Waterloo Sunset sound rubbish !
6/10 – nice beer – shame about the pub

Stopped off for a quick refresher here, which was worthwhile as nice little place with a couple of guest ales on. Appeared to be the best option in the town centre.

Decent enough pub. Smallish but not claustraphobic. Decorated in a sort of coaching inn style, i guess, to give it an old world feel.
6-nations rugby on when i visited so there was fairly lively and decent crowd in. Not too packed, though, and i got served easily enough by the friendly bar staff. Attracts the real ale types due to the hand pumps. The beer was fine. There's real cider, too.

A busy place that used to be Hamlets back in the 1980s, when i first visited it. Cant say a lot about the interior as it was rammed and with the nice weather, we went out side into the patio area - which is called the street! Local CAMRA pub of the year 2007.
Beer wise; usual stuff of course and i couldnt really see much of the bar. Where i was, there were four handpulls, all of which were on; Oakham's Bishops Farewell and JHB were both decent.
Again, would love to visit when i could get to the bar

Top town centre boozer.Heavy quaffing of the York Brewery Springtime inside this attractive old pub.Piped music started off rather hip hop but thankfully reverted to quality from the 70's,80's and 90's as the pub began to fill.Very friendly landlord explained he wanted to get 5 handpumps working but was having difficulty in operating more than two at present ,then gave us a very large bowl of free scratchings.Cue more quaffing. The stairs down from the bogs are steep if you are a bit worse for wear ,but thankfully no one went A over T.Probably the best pub in Tamworth and quite a bit of totty call in on their town centre crawl.

This is probably one of the only places in Tamworth to get a decent real ale, except for wetherspoons which has problems I wont go into now. It generally has two guest ales on which come with great service. The stairs upto the toilets are steep reminding you how old the building really is. A top class joint that I dont visit enough!

Had a top notch pint of Atlas "Latitutude Pilsner" from the two pumps available, nice town centre pub, 7/10
|
By far and away the best town centre boozer for a good well kept real ale. Good atmosphere and staff are generally knowledgeable about the guest ales.
PS The pork scatchings are made just down the road at the butchers and are worth a try.

Had a reasonable pint of something unremarkable in here. Full of people watching the football so quickly left.

If you want a decent pint in Tamworth come to this place. I was here for a pre-match pint on a very hot day - the beer was in perfect nick, just right temp. Could have stayed all afternoon but for the kick-off. A freindly pub as well, just outside the town centre.
|
A town centre pub which has a large screen and first seems just to be a lager and sports oriented place but there are two real ales at the end of the bar. Certainy also a proper pub unlike some of the places further into the town centre of Tamworth.
|
Have only been once, but would go again. Enjoyed a well kept pint of Church End. Recently awarded CAMRA pub of the year by Tamworth branch.

Nice pub in the middle of town, agree with the comments about the stairs leading to the gents. You need to watch your head on the way back down.
|
If you like Guinness or real ale this is the place for you. Also has good live music on a regular basis. They have some cracking bar maids as well ! Can get packed on Saturday night as its not the largest pub in the world.

Great pub, always music orientated despite changes in the name and Landlord over the years, and also serve a few good whiskies...

Nice enough pub with friendly bar staff. Watch out for the stairs coming back from the toilet though - Chris Bonnington would have trouble descending them!
