The Hardwick Arms, Streetly

A Bland Ember Inns pub, service at the bar is awful, either they dont have enough staff or the ones that are working are on a go slow. Cheap food with a large area set aside for diners. 20s years ago the place had character, no longer unfortunately.

The Colebrook Inn, Shirley

Popped in on Friday Night between 8 and 9.30, was busy with a broad mix of punters, service was good plenty of staff behind the bar to handle the peak Friday evening session. This is a typical Ember Inns Pub with a similar layout to a lot of their other pubs I have visited, same carpet bar layout dcor as all their other pubs. The Bombardier ale was off so I chose the Marstons Pedigree as an alternative. I dont know if it was the way the bar maid pulled it or if the barrel was on the way out but it tasted awful and I was soon drinking Becks Vier. Not bad for a local pub but not brilliant either.

The Pheasant, Harlington

I had to spend a week staying in the Radisson Edwardian on Bath Row while working in the Heathrow area. Not fancying spending 4 nights sitting in the overpriced hotel bar or eating in the stuffy restaurants I used this website to check out the pubs in the nearby vicinity. Well the Pheasant came up highly rated and just 5 mins walk from the hotel, so I decided that on the Monday evening thats where I would head for my dinner. Sitting outside the aircraft noise was awful but the Pheasant has a great range of ale on offer, with London Pride at 3 a pint. Lots of TVs to watch Wimbledon highlights and the Euro 2008 matches. Huge menu of food available to order service was good and food quality was better than average and the portions a little on the large side. Pub is pleasant on the inside, bar staff friendly and happy to help, setting up a tab was easy. Couple of nights latter I took some colleagues who were staying in the same hotel they were all impressed and not happy with me that I had not dragged them down to the Pheasant. In summary if you staying in Hotel Row, get out for a walk down to the Pheasant and drink good beer and good pub food in a pleasant environment.
