A good back street locals pub. Popular with a large bar with pool table and separate seating areas plus a smaller cosy lounge. There are three regular and up to six guest ales. Tried the Bathams Bitter and Wye Valley HPA, both good. Thatcher's Heritage cider also available here.

First visit to this pub on Saturday evening. It has a range of 9 ales plus a cider. Although all the beers were pale ales or bitters - Moorhouses White Witch, White Rose Hopping Mad, Bob's White Lion, Wye Valley HPA, Bathams Bitter, Dark Star American Pale Ale, Church End Enigmatic Variations, Thornbridge AM-PM & Ossett Silver King. The cider was Thatchers Heritage. The pub itself is located in a back street. It was busy with people watching the World Cup football on the TV. There is a central bar, which you can walk right round. But it creates separate drinking areas. Undoubtedly a good pub. But I do prefer the Waggon & Horses just down the road.

A cracking little local pub with a very good choice of Real Ales. This pub has got the best beer in Halesowen and should not be missed.

This is a welcoming local, reminiscent of numerous front rooms in the 1970s/'80s. But somehow it's none the worse for that, primarily thanks to its unexpectedly broad range of cask ales - around 8 in total, all of which were found in great condition. A minor disappointment was that all were of the pale variety; given that we were entering Autumn it seemed perverse not to have at least some brown or dark beers on, but as a pale ale lover it wasn't such a hardship to stay within that stable.
The punters were friendly, as were the bar staff, and for a weekday evening the place was pleasantly busy, which sadly one can't always take for granted even in superior local hostelries in residential areas these days.
There is considerable space in what is essentially a traditional 2-bar layout - there seem to be far more pubs in this Region that have retained this feature than in those further south, and it was a joy to see.

Well worth a few jars if you find yourself meandering around the Halesowen area.

Great little old fashioned pub.Good selection of ever changing draught beer.Has changed a lot since the Non-Smoking ban..Was like an opium den,but now a pleasant out of the way local.
Food available at lunch time and with two rooms and a nice rear garden area.
Plenty of street parking outside the pub.Well worth a pint

Enjoyed a couple of the best bagettes for a long time at this pub while sampling the excellent selection of real ales on offer. A wonderful suntrap of a beer garden, and spacious enough for both smokers and non smokers to enjoy.

Thriving free house comprising several rooms. A main bar area, (somewhat dominated by the pool table), a smaller, quieter room around the other side of the bar and a lounge area to the side. A good choice of real ales was available, (8 or so), and the quality was very good. 5 minutes walk from the Waggon & Horses.

Very disappointing. A pub that will clearly benefit from the smoking ban. I was served a half of vinegar when i had clearly ordered a guest ale. This was my first and last visit to this pub. Pubs that portray the specialist selling of ales should know when they are clearly off!

Fantastic pub, best in Halesowen, which is praise indeed considering the Waggon and Horses is just down the road.

Good: Lovely garden, great atmosphere, friendly clientele and staff, large selection of ales all kept perfectly by Ray.

Not so good: Sometimes too warm or smokey, sometimes the beer selection is weighed too heavily to pale, hoppy beers - I'd appreciate some darker maltier ales sometimes.

Fantastic pub, deservedly made local CAMRA pub of the year 2006. Two minutes walk from the Number 9 bus route too. Also close to another great pub the Waggon and Horses, so worth coming to Halesowen for these two alone.

excellent pub. Ray is a materful cellarman and his beer is always in tip top condition. The selection is always wonderful with favourite brewers including Roosters, White Lion, Archers and Bathams.

Certainly the best pub for miles around. Three rooms - one with pool and a jukebox, another an area with sofas, and a third that is designed to be free of music and gambling machines. Excellent range of real ales, and a great atmosphere.
