A complete change to how I remember it,it's gone from very large tatty and slightly rough to Foody Bright and slightly eco-pretencious, rather too many friends of the earth/UAF/save the planet style couples with their kids running amock. Good beer however ,the pint of Everards "Whakatu" was v good and the food did look generously sized and tasty, 7/10

A few years ago this was a dark and dingy pub with an emphasis on sports and a slightly unsavoury reputation. Since then, in common with much of the surrounding area, its had a makeover and now has a completely different feel to it, and no doubt, a completely different set of clientele.

Its really more of a caf/bar type of establishment now rather than your traditional pub and this is emphasised by a selection of cakes displayed on the bar counter. It probably caters to lots of yummy mummies during the day and at other times theres a mix of people reading papers, surfing on their laptops, couples eating meals, and maybe one or two drinking beer as well.

Its got a light and airy feel with good sized windows on two sides, a U-shape bar with lots of open space around it, and a selection of chairs and tables dotted around the perimeter. There are lots of community leaflets and magazines around for you to peruse if you dont feel like talking to anyone.

Beers on this occasion were Otter Ale, Doom Bar, Bath Ales Spa and Butcombe Gold. The solitary and very un-local cider was Aspalls Suffolk and unfortunately this had run out by the end of the evening. I only wanted a half as I could only stay a few more minutes, but this was not possible. In the interests of good customer relations I would have thought that they could have perhaps opened a bottle and served me a half, but apparently not. Instead I went thirsty, and wont be in any rush to return.

Also visited this pub before the Millwall game, wish I stayed..........!

Good crowd and a nice pint of Doom Bar. Staff were efficient and helpful on a busy day. Enjoyed it so much went back on Monday night with my wife to sample their "2 pizzas for a 10" offer. Doom Bar still in good condition and teh pizzas were very good indeed as was summer pudding.

'Garden' area is in reality a yard, concrete area which they have tried to cheer up with a few benches etc and an undercover area, probably could improve this area quite a lot at not too great expense?

Definitely always worth a visit

Called in here for lunch and beer before seeing City lose to Millwall on first game of season. Lacking character but food was good and Butcombe was spot on. Bar staff friendly - just needs some atmos!

Well, Skmly obviously had a bad night at the comedy club at the H&C but when ever I've been the comics have been excellent. Real top drawer stuff from acts you can see on the telly such as Lee Mack, Stewart Francis and Jon Richardson. And even the lesser known comics are great too.

As for it being communist night, I can only think Skmly wanted to talk during the show and was told to be quiet. Occasionally that does happen there.

If it's so dire why is it so popular? It's always full when I've been, especially on Saturday nights. Each to their own though. Stand-ups not for everyone.

One thing I would say is that the room upstairs desperately needs a lick of paint. Compared to downstairs it's like going back to the 70s. What are the owners thinking? Embarrassing it was when I took my mates who were visiting from Canada. They couldn't believe the contrast.

Nice pub. good food and drinks etc.

Went for comedy night but could only describe it as Communist night.

The compare warned everyone not to do anything other than laugh basically.

Its the second time ive been here under duress I may add., Its dire and for the unfunny types who will sit through any rubbish without a thought in their tiny minds believing that this was entertainment.

Beware!!! hecklers will be shot

Nice airy pub, with quite a modern feel. Much improved and completely different since it's been done out. Nice food.
Could do with some better ciders though, just Olde English and Addlestones.

Something of a relief after escaping the Tobacco Factory's creche. ( still one or two many screaming kids though - to quote the barman "it's always like this around here"). 4 ales on, the Otter was in fine fettle, also Hook Norton and 6X. A bit lacking in character - another place on the band wagon of "local produce" food etc. At least they are making an effort to serve some decent ales which makes it worth a return visit.

Much improved since the refurb- lovely pizzas and chilled atmosphere.

Fair place, had a couple of ales on the go a while back, my Sharps IPA was decent enough, though not cheap by any means.

Another gentrified Bedminster outlet; suits, students and trendies are the main customers.

Fairly modern design inside, quite liked it for a quick stop, but not for a session.

Would pop back in I happened to be passing.

i never went in here before the refurb but we took a wonder up north street last week and i got to say this pub has got something good going here. Nice to see something modern and up to date as in Bedminster you can sometimes feel stuck in the 80's. good pub/resturant.

Recently refurbished and revamped. Gone was the run down look and good pool tables. Yet another yuppy minimalist bar opened up at the Southville end of Bedminster. Lacks personality and character. It's basically a smaller version of the Tobacco factory, but still quite a large pub. It's more of a suited business person's hang out by day and a studenty place by night. It however is definitely not cheap though. Well overpriced! I wouldn't even bother knowing what it's like. I'd rather they brought back the run down dump it used to be. At least it was a good pub then

No real ale, but does a good guinness. The pub is a large open room with enormous windows. There are countless tv's and sport always on them. If you want to play pool this is the best pub for it. There is also a good jukebox with a variety to suit most tastes. There is plenty of seating, but it does get busy at times. The toilets are pretty revolting though, but has one of the best comedy clubs in bristol upstairs. There is some tables outside, but i would be no means call it a beer garden. Good pleasant doormen, but they don't take any trouble.

Plenty of TV screens on offer, so ideal if you want to watch some sport. If you want a decent beer in pleasant surroundings, best to choose somewhere else.

Quite frankly one of the worst pubs I have ever found myself in. The barstaff didnt have a clue what they were doing and the bloke who was in charge didnt look like he cared. The staff had no idea which punter was next, and people were waiting over half an hour to be served, 3 staff were on and the bar was only 2 deep. The toilets were overflowing, two intimidating doorstaff decided to politely ask everyone to drink up by shouting 'Right you've had your fun now clear off!' The only reason I was there was to watch the comedy upstairs which isnt related to the pub, it just hires the room, a great night of entertainment upstairs spoiled by the imberciles who run the place downstairs.
