Now owned by members of the Staffordshire Regiment Association.
Members contributed to the purchase of the pub - where the regiment was formed, over three hundred years ago.
A veteran runs it - and the pub is well supported by those associated with the famous local regiment.

Busy on one of the nights we visited with a local band playing heavy rock & metal [good stuff], good part covered smoking area at rear, I had pints of Lillington 'Regimental Ale' on both visits, a good ale.

Once upon a time, this place was a real pub, ran by Sid, and Sandra Farmer. Now it is just another homoginised shit hole no different than all the other shitholes created by aquiescent breweries across the land. Here you could buy the best game pie and veg, REAL home cooking rather than crap imagined by some advertising toady and their masters. Real heritage Britain gone for good, exchanged for bollocks. Sid and Sandra were booted out to be replaced with bland. They kept hens at the top of the yard and children ran about freely and loudly in an idyll that adveritisers try to present now when they want to palm off their corporate wares. Some say things are better, some say they are worse, but some things hold us all to this earth, but not the bankers with the silent 'W' I feel priviliged to have spent some time at this place of tumbling children, animals and school dinner pies out of trays, with bones and all. Goodbye Albion, I love you well.

Good old fasioned boozer in the middle of town and a MUST visit. They have 8 hand pulls spread around three sides of the bar 3/3/2 so if you don't fancy what you see at first look for the others. Marstons stable of beers on sale so I went for a pint of Banks Sunbeam @3.10

Visited on a Thursday evening, Live Jazz playing and nice atmosphere. Pub looking a bit tired, beer below par, you shouldnt have a pint of Pedigree that needs a flake in it!

Every Lichfield generation discovers the Kings so there's always a good mix of ages in here. Beer on 2 recent visits has been distinctly average and the pork in the pork and stuffing baguette had been around a while. At least I had to chew it properly. Live music in the backyard makes it good for a visit in the evenings.Generally it's starting to look a bit run down which is a shame as it's almost a right of passage for Lichfield youngsters.

At first sight this pub offers everything: great atmosphere, live music, authentic history and all set in a historic cathedral city. Everything that is apart from good beer. The other week I had a pint of Pedigree and what a disappointment. It was flat and lifeless. I view Pedi as the benchmark beer in Lichfield so there's no shortage of comparisons. Every other pub sells better Pedi at a lower price. So come on Landlord, it's no excuse to rely on the ambience you need to raise your game on the beer. Can I suggest you get some training in at the George & Dragon.

One of the better town centre pubs. Former coaching inn, with brick facade and timber framed interior, allegedly where the first regiment of the Staffs Regiment was formed
I was a little disappointed with the beer choice, which can be found in the Earl of Lichfield - Marstons Pedigree, Marstons Bitter and Ringwood. I found the Marstons and Ringwood Bitters fine. No MILD.
Live music nights - always worth a visit

Very pleasant real-ale driven pub; mature crowd on Staurday (live music); Pedigree very good.

Good friendly pub. I started spending week-ends in Lichfield and wandered into the Kings Head one Saturday night, had a great night, good music, good beer. Started going in regularly at week-ends after that. After a fortnight was made to feel like a local.

This old boozer is a pleasant enough place to spend an hour or so drinking. Beer is well kept on the whole but you would be well advised to walk round the corner into Sandford Street and visit the Queens Head and find out what a pub should really be like!

Nice cosy pub with a fantastic history dating well past the English Civil War and 2 resident ghosts. Well kept ales, friendly staff and good menu with filled baguettes, home made pies and superb fish & chips.
|
Good cozy pub, well-kept beer, four different rooms and the occasional rabid old gadgie who rumbles at his invisible chums about what the world has come to, letting people like him/them out and about.

An ancient pub where great entertainment rubs shoulders with history and comfort, all washed down with arange of quality beers and lagers. Open mic every Friday and there's an acoustic night that runs every month, (I think)on a Wednesday. (I think!).

The Kings Head has been recently taken over and is no longer a karaoke bar. It has had some tender loving care and attention, and is a lovely place to enjoy a meal or a drink. Guest Ales for those who enjoy the good taste of a excellant Bitter. Traditional Jazz is played every thursday night and for 'FREE ENTRY' is a great night out. A live band plays every Saturday night (different bands each week). Go along and have a look and see the diffeance for yourself. Function Room also available for hire.

This old town centre pub used to be the hub of Lichfield social life. A great building, but competing against the plethora of restaurants and posers bars in the area has turned it into a bit of a mish mash of old pub, and karaoke bar! HAs partially redeemed itself by saving the Lichfield Winter Beer Festival from the horrors of the men in black in the Garrick though!
