Beautiful exterior and proper pub inside with decent beers.

A beautiful exterior but the thumbs ups end there - mainly because of the fierceness of the competition in Birmingham these days. This is listless and compared to most city centre pubs, doesn't really cut the mustard. It is a staging post on the walk from the Jewellery Quarter back to th station but I'd save yourself for the Wellington.

Entry in the 2017 Good Beer Guide but omitted in the 2018 Guide.

Well maintained interior and exterior.

Wye Valley HPA in average condition.

Went in here for the first time with food in mind, but always interested in ale options. Food was hearty, sourced from quality independent producers and well presented. Enjoyed a couple of tasty pints from Froth Blowers. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. 10/10. Well worth a visit!

Sadly a case of 'no beer in the evening' as pub was closed for a quiz (?). This was the only pub in the centre of Birmingham participating in 'Cask Ale Week', and closing for an evening suggests that it does not appear to be taken seriously.

Back again and good as ever - 6 real ales and good local food. Friendly staff and attractive barmaids. Sky football too. Only downside is that it is a small pub and some tools hang around at the bar and get in the way of people but can't fault the pub for the occasional numpty visitor. Don't let it put you off though.

Thank goodness for the haven of a classic city boozer after noisy expericences in the city centre. The Queen's Arms is a corner pub situated just outside the centre. The staff and the clientele were friendly and not the impersonal types I found in previous locations. Beers on were Falstaff A Fistful of Hops, Holdens Golden Glow & Wye Valley HPA. A real cider was also on - Thatchers Cheddar Valley. Well worth a visit.

Great street corner pub tucked away from the main city centre (but perfect if you are staying at nearby Travelodge). Had Doom Bar, Wye HPA and Purity Mad Goose. Free wifi and Sky footie. Food from locally sourced meat (if you want horsemeat go to a supermarket instead!) and good. Burger was a bit dry but faggots on a later visit were very tasty so maybe a one off with the burger and I should have mentioned it at the time.

Would definitely return if staying at Travelodge.

Visited yesterday after a tour around the Assay Office opposite. Quiet at lunchtime, only about a dozen office workers. TV screens were showing the BBC News Channel. Perhaps not the best pint of Butty Bach I have had (still perfectly drinkable), the Landlord was in good order, Doombar also available. Food was good and ample, we had 4 "grazing plates" for 14 between 3 of us. Pub has its own accurate, informative website. I would visit again.

My favourite pub in the area. Nice relaxed atmosphere even when its busy. Generally three or four ales on at a time and all kept really well. Display the cask mark sign too which shows they know what they're doing. Food is good too.

Living locally, I walk past here fairly regulalary. Haven't been in for a while after a few questionable pints a few years back but walked past the other day and saw a "Cask Marque" sign out front and thought it would be worth a try.
A massive improvement, very impressed with my pint of Doombar. Food was on offer too so called the missus down and had a couple of decent burgers, plus she loved the random (though awful sounding!) Raspberry Cider on a handpull - not a fan myself! All in all impressed, have started using it again.

Update of my review May '07. Knocked off a few points on my original review as I have frequently found the beer to be either decidedly average or decidedly off. A complacent attitude pervades and often it gets packed out with some obnoxious wad waving punters. Sorry to report this.

Stripped out pub with a great outside facade. Tends to attract those that like stripped out pubs with lagers and a token cask ale presence. 3 screens showing football when i was in.

Good pub, very good beers which are sold in a dimpled beer pint glass.
The pub sells Tastees Snacks as well!

Agree with the rest of the comments. Beer range and quality pretty good but just lacking in atmosphere inside with its modern ambience and turning into someting of a circuit pub. Not a bad place mind.

This pub is now part of a small chain of three bars, the others being Edmunds just along the road and The Rectory. The old brick built exterior includes a fine Mitchells & Butlers cornerstone but sadly once youre inside its been ripped out and been given the wine bar treatment. It has a wooden floor and lots of high tables and chairs along with some standard dining ones. There are 2 large screens showing sport and theres also a good looking wooden bar back complete with a clock. Six handpumps in two banks of three doubling up the beer which was London Pride, Mordue Workie Ticket and a beer called Most Wanted which didnt have an identified brewer, it just says it was brewed by Punch Cask Ale Champions. I had a pint of the Most Wanted which was OK and at 2.85 a little cheaper than Edmunds. The barmaid was very chatty and friendly and the food looked to come in huge portions, although I didnt try any. Its OK in here, although I would have preferred a more traditional layout inside.

Pop in here sometimes when going to Hockley.

I used to frequent it a lot when i worked at BT in Newhall St (95 Newhall St is now a hotel, which is probably the target user for this pub) many years ago. The pub then was packed at lunchtimes - as you could drink and go back to work - aaaahhh the mid-80s!

The pub has been revamped and looks fantastic from the outside. Inside, it is sort of neither here, or there - not traditional, as it was, but not too trendy. This leaves me divided; happy to see the investment and clean-up of the place, but missing the character that it had - it is missing something

It served real ales, but sadly, the old M&B MILD had bitten the dust since my last visit. Will continue to pop in every so often.

Been using The Queens now for a number of years. Since the new owners took over a couple of years ago it has gone from strength to strength, so well done to you! Always thought this could be a cracking local boozer and now it is!
Food is good quality, average priced grub and never once had a complaint about my pint of ale - also getting more interesting over the last few months!
Well worth a try, cheers guys!

Inoffensive Pub, Decent well priced food, doesn't get as busy as a lot of other Pubs on Newhall Street.

The beer is never good though, anyone who tells you different is either lying or daft.

Nice enough pub, have been a few times, very ideal to stop off if heading from bennetts hill to the jewellery quarter or visa versa.

Strange occurence on one visit was a chav buying a bottle of Moet to take out!!!!

Lovely Victorian corner pub. 3 ales should have been on when we arrived on Saturday lunchtime. But they weren't as the barman did not have the keys to the cellar! Similarly, no ice. This was rectified for our 2nd round and had a nice pint of a beer with "blonde" in the name served in an old-fashioned "jug" pint glass.
thegiant - 16 Jun 2008 11:43
Not quite as good as i hoped it would be as the beer selection was not particularly good and all of them were average rather than anything better. Still worth bieng on a beer crawl of the City though which perhaps says more about the City real ale scene than anything else.

Its an interesting refurbishment, seeking to blend new and old. Nice pint of Directors. Music can be loud at times. A rare pub in the area, with choice of real ales.
Sid98 - 12 Dec 2007 17:37
Nice discreet pub which isn't aggressively pushing itself for the custom of the lofthouse and luxury flat dwellers nearby (Apres & Metchus, or whatever it's called, are there for that). Service is generally excellent and despite previous reviews I think the quality of their modest selection of real ales is extremely good. I agree that the prices are quite high, but then so is the standard of food.
ILooklikeme - 30 May 2007 11:03
Quiet, which can be quite welcome. Beers good but pricey.
davver - 7 Jan 2007 00:28
Since the referb the new manager as turned this dark, smokey back st boozer into a half modern half trad pub. Which is good for the area in which it is located in brum. Although the trad ale isn`t the best food was half desent

Completely deserted on a Saturday afternoon! The bar man seemed friendly enough though.
