user reviews of the Bramley Apple, Southwell

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Bramley Apple is a Springhead pub that was quieter than the other local pubs. The landlord was on his own and was certainly being kept busy. Apparently the first Bramley Apple tree was grown nearby. The ale range was a little disappointing with Roaring Meg & Bramley Apple from Springhead, Light Headed from Vale of Glamorgan and Random Toss from Flipside. There were no real ciders that I could see. The interior is a single large room with a larger drinking area to the side as you enter. I wouldn't say this was a bad pub. But it felt the least welcoming of the 4 Southwell pubs I tried.

Decent pub with a very interesting arrangement of beers / lagers. At least 7 real ales on when we were there, including Harvest Pale & various Springhead brewery ales such as Willy's wheat beer, Maid Marian etc... Also a range of Freedom lagers and decent ciders. We turned up on a Sunday lunchtime and the carvery was busy and looked good.

This is a good honest pub where the staff work hard to help you enjoy your visit. I had a very nice pint of Springhead's 'Bramley Apple' and our party of three had good food. Worth a visit if you are in Southwell despite the 400 metre walk from the town centre.

Went here during the Gate To Southwell Folk Festival. Friendly and warm-welcoming pub - accomodating barman and friendly landlord. Beer choice and quality was excellent. Pub clean and tidy and engaged in the folk festival with quality music inside and Morris Dancing at the front of the pub in the beer garden.

Will be back next year.

Two old style seated areas to left and right as you go in and bar over to the right with another area at the back. Seemed to be some work in progress on our visit. Had a very nice pint of Springhead's 'Bramley Apple' which didn't have much of an appley tinge but was quite a nice light pint to start the day with. They also had the full Springhead range and a few guest ales on as well.

Great nights here. The Karakoe nights here are great. Thanks to the landlord and landlady for putting up with the Irish guys again!!!

Lovely village pub, seven handpumps, black rat cider plus 6 bitters from a variety of breweries including nearby Springhead, whose bitter was delicious. Roaring Meg was also on offer from this local source. If you want the 12:40 (bus61) connection to Oxton, however, do not wait at the stop outside, as this service only starts at Southwell Minster, and the next one is 13:50(?), and Southwell has no taxi service Cant blame that on this nice pub tho, or its friendly licencees; only time for one pint but gotta lean toward an 8.
Pity I didnt get time to check out the self-promoting Hearty Goodfellow nearby, where blatent home reviews have been so obvious, but itd have to be good to better the Bramley!

This has changed hands so many times in recent years I've lost track. Not sure who owns it right now. BUT, it's always been a good pub. It used to be THE place to go to catch a good blues band on a Saturday night, but then it was sold. Went gastro-pub for a while, which was fairly doomed to fail from the get-go, in spite of the nice new decor. Next chap to take it on brought back good English stodgy food and live music. As I say, not sure who has it right now, but it's definitely changed owners again - but still serving Springhead Bitter, which is not a bad thing, in my humble opinion! :-)

Had a lucky tip off about this place. Lively pub (though calls itself a bar restaurant, I didn't see anyone eating) a short stroll from the Minster, serving a wide range of Springhead beers and guests (a bit too cold though). The staff were very friendly and I'll certainly be going back whenever I'm in Southwell. They had posters up for bands but I didn't check what nights they were on. B&B available.
