Come on Maidstone - this boozer is worth a lot more than its 6.2 rating. Excellent beer, friendly knowledgeable staff and reasonable prices. Quirky interior too, for those who like quirky. Worth at least an 8

Excellent quality, locally produced beers and a warm welcome with a discount for CAMRA members. Not as small as it looks. The downstairs bar is a bit snug but upstairs there are a couple of comfortable, larger rooms.

Interesting looking pub on a one way system around Maidstone. Small but comfortable.
Keen staff offering 4 ales usually all from Kent and good quality.
Worth visiting if in the area.

Under new management this pub is all scrubbed up and fixed up now, 'The Pig' is serving 4 ales, one cider and one lager all locally produced, plus house doubles and a good selection of mainstream brands. The pool table has gone but the varied jukebox remains. The friendly locals make this pub very special.

A good afternoon visit provided 4 good quality ales including westerhams 1965 and incubus from hopdaemon. friendly regulars and staff make for a pleasant time with one of the most varied jukeboxs around!

Went in the bar last night at 8pm and it was baking hot. No ventilation at all. Took my beer into the tiny back yard but gave up trying to have a conversation as the nearby group of yoofs chose to shout at each other rather than talk sensibly. Finished the beer up rather quickly and went around the corner to the Fisherman's Arms.

Beers available were Masterbrew, London Pride, Kelham Best bitter and Stonehenge Pigswill

Been there tonight for the first time, beer was excellent and the hospitality even better. My comment to alehead is that everybody gets a bad beer sometimes, this is usually solved quite easliy by telling the staff by, at which point they will replace your bad beer with a good one. And as per the uncleanliness, I saw nothing wrong with the pub, its an incredible building and belongs the eay it is.

OH dear!!! I had high hopes for this quirky little pub after my last visit where i was pleasantly surprised to find Real Ale and Real Cider now available and in good condition as well, if a tad too warm!
But on this visit i was bitterly disappointed, OK, still has 4 ales on but the quality was well below average.
I had Masterbrew which was slightly hazy and warm but I did not let that put me off, it was the taste that i could not stand, I don't know how to describe it really other than it reminded me of rancid cheese, HORRID!!!!
next was a pint by the Nelson brewery, cant remember what it was called now but it looked like a pint of custard in my glass it was so cloudy and the taste was pure yeast!!
the guy who was serving did not seem to know what the problem was and was more interested in yawning and explaining that he only has 2 hours of his shift left!!!!
Food is now available but have not tried it.
As reported before, the whole place is in need of a good clean up I'm not sure if they have ever heard of a vacuum cleaner or polish!!
Please don't let your promising start into the world of real ale end up with the quality i had today???

Ancient listed building with various small rooms on two levels, and two dubious staircases you wouldn't want to tackle if you've had a few. Small bar, with four handpumps (one cider and three real ale) including the excellent Rudgate Ruby Mild - this year's CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain. Excellent value too, with pint and packet of crisps costing about 2.80. This place has had its ups and downs over the years (and I don't just mean the uneven floors), but I'm pleased to see it doing the right things again.

only been in here twice, was pleased to see real ale now available and a real cider, all were in good condition if a bit warm!
very cheap, could loose some of the video/games machines though
also needs a bit of a clean but all in all quite a nice little quirky out of town pub
no chavs in sight was a big plus point!

This pub has an interesting tudor frontage but is rather uninspiring inside, which might just be me being hyper-critical. I was taken aback by the range of drinks on offer though, and the prices. 2 for a bottle of Quilmes is staggeringly good value, and is worth tolerating the dodgy noise that emanates from the jukebox.

Went in on a Thursday night to find them having a Nintendo Wii night - all the folks were very freindly and Peter and Zoe (landlord and landlady) were lovely to chat too. The Wii night was great fun with leaderboards and a real healthy competition being run - strongly recomend to anyone - great evening out.

Hard to resist trying this one out of curiosity. Fascinating building both inside and out with an unexpectedly friendly atmosphere and a very impressive range of bottled beers.

On second thoughts (and having been in there a lot recently) i'm really beginning to rate this pub as among the best you can find in Maidstone. The range of drinks is suitable for anyone, of any tastes, and the range of crisps is also pleasing. The clientel has improved somewhat, and when frequenting upstairs on your own the jukebox is a right touch.

Under-rated pub, the Thirsty Pig has sorted itself out recently. An excellent range of bottled ales ranging from Hobgoblin to Tanglefoot. Also a small selection of Belgian beers such as Leffe, Duvel, Chimay Red and Hoegaarden. These are very reasonable priced as well, with a bottle of Leffe costing only 2.20. Good atmosphere upstairs, although can be a struggle to carry 3 drinks up the steep stairs after a few pints.

Don't think i've seen more goths in one place before. They are every in this gaff. It's a very unique pub with floors and ceilings that are all over the show (thus meaning a bang on the head is never out of the equation). It's not a bad pub to enjoy one drink but spending to long in there could be one jar too many.

Does anyone actually like clowns? I doubt it.
Anyway, dropped in here on Saturday for the first time in ages only to find it strangely goth-free. Instead, it seemed to be full of smart middle aged folks and someone had managed to find Abba on the jukebox. It was all a bit weird, as everything else was exactly the same as before.

The building's definitely the star here - from the outside its a seriously old timber framed affair leaning all over the shop at worrying angles; inside its a burrow of gloomy little passageways, staircases and low ceilings.
The place seems to be the hang-out of every teenage goth in Maidstone (which would probably explain why the jukebox seems to be on an endless repeating cycle of Slipknot and Sisters of Mercy) but its actually very friendly. No real ale on draught, but has a large selection of the bottled stuff. Not bad.

Amazing small local pub, winding passage ways, pool table, excellent jukebox, good selection of bottled ales - really cool staff
