croydonpeer, at it again -being down right rude to other posters and pretending to be knowledgeable,a silly troll with no positive in put.

It might be lovely in your little brain croydon, it doesn`t change the fact it`s still closing.

Perhaps your brain?

This is a lovely pub.

In a magic area.

This site is getting slower and slower hence the comment twice.

Last visit here the service was very poor and place looked very tired, shame we always liked this place.
Have just been told the place is closing and appartments on the way, not sure how true this is?

Pub which is very popular with cyclists.

Around 4 real ales on, when asking for a coke you may get the 200ml bottle so be careful.

The food is reasonable portions and is decent value for money.

Interesting. Revisited here after some 5-6 years last weekend, and while good beer was retained and a reasonable spread was made available, the vibe just somehow seems now to be too-townies-in-the-country for my tastes. Immaculate decor, smart contemporary twists that still worked within the 1920s imposing white-washed exterior. But bar staff in ties and stripped wood floors alongside comfy chairs and some perhaps unforgivablky snotty ladies in the corner discussing how their horses had come first in their class was maybe not quite what I was hoping for.

Maybe to those who are regular it is not an awkward juxtaposition; indeed it wouldn't be in Dorking or even Godalming. But out in Peaslake perhaps a little more nod to the country environment in which it sits wouldn't be bad. Then again this is entirely subjective and perhaps some welcome the Hurtwood eschewing the 'choc box' approach.

Anyway, lovely S Hills Shere Drop and King 5 Generations (quite a chewy but complex brew) sampled and good luck to whoever runs the show.

Surrey Hills Shere Drop (3.45, ok condition), Andwell King John, Hog's Back TEA and London Pride. Modern bar, some seating outside both front and back.

Decent selection of ales, considering it is a hotel bar, but the decor and layout lets it down somewhat as you feel like you're drinking in the foyer. Good for a couple of beers but not somewhere you'd spend all evening.

A somewhat mixed review of this pub in general. The ultra modern design takes away some of the appeal that perhaps this pub would have if it was old fashioned. The beers were mostly local breweries and the food was not that well organised. 7/10

Went into this gastro pub/hotel for the first time, very good beer/selection and great location. I prefer a quaint old English pub though with charachter and this pub was a modern refurb job very plush/posh and no atmosphere or charachter but i guess you get that with a hotel.

o.k for a beer and a sandwich. don't be too adventurous though.

The Hurtwood Inn is a beautiful 1920's building in one of the prettiest and most mysterious (surrounded by all those woods) villages in the south of England. The staff are all very friendly and the place appears to be very well run. The rooms are great, comfortable, very clean and well appointed.

But what have they done to the bar? With bright lights, tacky tables and cheap prints of cars on the wall, it appears to be have been redecorated by a teenage boy from the 1980's. Opening up the reception to the bar has not achieved a lot, except to make the floorboards run in two different directions and give one the sensation of being watched. The enormous sofas (3 sets!) dwarf the bar and only allow 3 tiny, fake wood tables for eating. The real ale was not as good as my last visit, but the helpful barman explained they are aware of the problem. Luckily, they serve excellent Leffe and Staropramen, so I was able to switch to decent lager, which I only do when the real ale is a bit pants.

The dining room used to be formal and classic in appearance, but has now been painted an unflattering sunny yellow and partitioned off down the middle. More awful car prints on the walls. I didn't eat in there, except at breakfast, which was good. The bar food was OK. My pie of the day was only average, but the burger is good, as it always has been.

Still a great place to stay, in the perfect location. I just hope they don't let the same person who was responsible for the make over in the bar/dining room loose in the bedrooms, as these are in a different class.

Oh dear what's going on here. Judging by the smell of paint a recent and very ill-advised refurbishment. I've no idea what it was like before but it can't have been worse than what we have now, a stark bare boards bare walls and bright lights affair with those horrid horrid sofas and big tables. As there's only three sets of them it means once three groups are sat down that's it, you're stood up. Despite the excellent Bill King beer it feels dreadfully uncomfortable. Stop for a quick one if your out walking but if you want to linger there are many far better choices round here.

Had birthday celebration meal here with a party of more than 20. The staff were friendly and werent phased by an extra person turning up at the last moment. Food was great, and though not cheap was a reasonable price considering the quality. Beer was also very enjoyable Id recommend Shere Drop or T.E.A. in particular. And Peaslake also deserves a mention for being an appealing little village in the midst of the Surrey hills, from which you can do an excellent circular walk through Hurt Wood to Pitch Hill and back in about an hour and a half.

A good pub. Good food, good beer selection. Pretty friendly for a Surrey pub (possibly the least friendly county in England).

We stayed here on our way home from Dorset. Large well appointed room attatched to the main building with a back door to let the dog out of! Service and staff were excellent. The food and wine were also very acceptable. The boiled eggs were underdone but otherwise the breakfast was good.
The village is so typically English, lovely!

Been going for around 3 years and not been disappointed yet - had our wedding reception there and they attended to everything perfectly and the room looked fantastic.

Food has always been amazing and everyone who works there is friendly.
Wireless internet (I asked at reception for the key and they did not charge) was also a great help.

First impressions on entering on a late Friday afternoon before Christmas was that the few tables that were in the bar area were badly laid out, there were children running about (baa-humbug), the jukebox was too loud (baa-humbug) and there were the usual fruit-the-loop locals at the bar.

But as there was a nice fire and the place was clean we persevered.

There were 3 attentive bar staff on duty who served us wonderful Shere Drop and great ham, egg and chips. And they turned the jukebox down.

We intend to return and try the restaurant.

After a tiring 7-hour flight from North America I found this out-of-the-way gem and we were not disappointed! . . . They had a great variety of beers and the barman was friendly as well as all the staff . . . We had a supper like we'd never seen before, only in the movies . . . It was spectacular and each dish was a creation like a work-of-art a painting almost! . . . If we visit again we will definitely return here . . .

This is a cracking pub. Thanks to the previous comments we were not expecting fast service, however, when the food arrived it was lovely and well presented (tasted as good as it looked too!). This was complemented by a well kept range of four real ales Mmmm!

We (a party of 7 - including my 16 year old son) had been tramping round the Downs on a cold day and they were not phased by our request to sit in the bar for the 10 minutes until it opened. Highly recomend this pub - just program it into your sat-nav or take a good map! It can be a little tricky to find otherwise (despite being signposted from the A25).

We went to this pub on a Sunday. We'd be tramping around the North Downs and targetted it for lunch. Despite being a bit muddy, we were allowed to sit in a very nice part of the bar and had a very nice meal indeed. The roast lan[mb shank was delicious. I think some might want the service to be a bit speedier, but we were in no rush, so weren't bothered. Nice puds too. STP is always the ultimate test of a good pub and it came up to scratch.
