Popped in here on spec after finding the Rose & Olive Branch surprisingly closed and up for sale. Very impressed by the warm welcome, the vast range of food and how delicious it tasted, and their own beer called "Rose & Crown" available in addition to TT Landlord. All very satisfactory, but my only concern is that most of the pub comprises tables laid up for formal dining behind a sign saying wait here to be seated; although they claim to welcome 'walk-ins' they don't have many tables suitable for such.

In here last Saturday about 1.30pm and quite busy mostly for diners. A few spare tables but not many and the foods not cheap either. I stuck with the beer. They have 7 hand pumps 4 to the right as you go in with 3 others round the other side to the left. Only three different ales on:- Tim Taylors Landlord. Adnams Southwold Bitter (£3.85 a pint) & Sharpe Doom Bar (£3.80 a pint) I tried a pint each of the Adnams and the Sharps and they were OK but a bit too cold.

Great pub with attentive staff good range of beer and food and very large garden with kids play area. Owned by the same group (Barrons inns) as the Cricketers in Horsell and the Star at Malden Russett

Went here with my parents for an evening meal recently. Extremely good food - steak was on a par with 80 a head restaurants in the city. Service was good and the seats comfy. I'll definitely be back to this little gem of a pub.

Stopped here for lunch today with a group of other walkers and was very impressed with the friendly efficient service, so much so that I am taking the effort to give some postive feed back here. It is part of a small chain I believe (clue: Brake Bros. catering lorry was delivering food as we left), but despite that it served real ales in top condition, and the food and service was not the typical chain stereotype. For a first visit opinion, I'd certainly return for more.

what is gone wrong with this pub.yesterday it felt like the wild west.a once decent pub,now ruined by some of the people who frequent there.

ok yeah go on fridays after work. pleasent bar staff, served reasonably quick, never eaten there but looks ok, plenty of space outside, nice historical features and past background. men toilets the size of a shoebox but hey ho. decent rannge of ales!

Promises a lot more than it delivers, I found it all rather underwhelming, and my Hogsback was fairly insipid.
Part of the Chef & Brewer chain. The one in Wokingham is very good for beer, so surprised this was so dull really.
|
Good pub in nice surroundings, food average. Beer well kept, altough a bit dissapointed with the Hogs Back TEA, vinegary to say the least.
|
Really nice food, really good staff, never had a bad meal here. Will continue to frequent it!

Don`t order food at a lunch time as it took 1h 10min for them to make a chicken sandwich and chips, beer is london pride, courage best and hogsback tea

First went here a few years ago and was not impressed, revisited it recently and got a very pleasant surprise. Good food [not sure about the prices as I wasn't paying!] and a good variety. Nice to see fresh specials. Great that they have a no smoking and no children policy - why don't more pubs do that? All they need to do now is get rid of the fruit machine. Does not suffer from being part of a chain. Our waiter Danny was incredibly attentive! Top marks!

This pub isn't really in Egham, more Thorpe/Virginia Water, hence it's quite pleasant. Food is incredibly overpriced but as Zod said, great if it's on the company as it is of a good standard and has a wide selection. Blatant chain does do it a disservice although cosy fire in winter and nice, quiet location makes it good for a quiet and/or intimate drink. Very close to M25 yet you'd never know as it's situated on Thorpe Green. Only thing is to watch out for the smell of the household waste site in nearby Lyne if the wind's blowing in the wrong direction on a summer's day.

family outing of 9 people, lovely pub,our table beside large fire place they even managed to make my mother in law happy (grumpy old sod) many thanks to barmaid samantha who very patiently explained about every thing on the menu to mother in law even answering her silly questions without even a smirk. we will be back in the near future without the hinderans.

This pub is in an old hunting lodge used by....some King or Queen of England a few hundred years ago (read the back of the menus, the details escape me). Lovely low beam ceilings offer a quaint venue slap bang in the middle of nowhere. Sadly, it's obviously part of a chain, and the staffs strict adherance to petty food serving rules (must know table number, no tabs allowed for tables outside!) and the high prices of food and beverages make this place tempting only if it's paid for on a company account. Still, very nice on a hot summers day.

I have visited the Rose & Crown many times & have never had a bad experience before. The standard of the food is very good, as it was on this occasion. My complaint however is about the service. A party of 8 of us, for my sister's birtday, yesterday, 1st July 03. Due to inadiquate staffing levels, I stood for nearly 10 mins to get the drinks, had to clear our own glasses from the table & had to request that the plates were removed from the table, the ash tray never emptied. My daughter spoke to the bar staff about this, no apology, just was told that it was due to short staffing. Basically we felt that this situation was unacceptable & it spoilt the evening. I would welcome your comments on this .

This Pub was very cosy in the winter of 1974 (when I worked there),.. pleased to hear it still is! It's a long way from home (in Australia), but I'll be back one day for darts and chestnuts by the fire..

It's a very good watering hole for Christmas and winter months. Very cosy. It's also got a huge ranging menu and decent wine list.
