Shocking! The pub looks promising – nicely presented outside and the interior gives the impression of being recently decorated, but that’s as far as it goes. Eventually someone came in from the back bar to serve us. There were 10 beer engines on the bar, but only 4 ales on, and one of those, Exmoor Fox, was horrible. We also ordered 2 gin and tonics, but were short measured on one of them and when raised with the barmaid was told it was because there was more ice in the other one! Despite the temptation to walk out, we stayed. We were about half way through our drinks when all hell broke out in the back bar. There was the sound of breaking glasses and clearly a fight ensued which spilled onto the street outside. At no time did any of the staff come to the front bar to put us at our ease, or explain/apologise for the disruption. Finishing our drinks, we left as quickly as we could, saying goodbye to the empty bar, and will be very unlikely to return.

Formerly the Tap pub for the Breconshire Brewery but taken over in Sept 2013 and re-opened in March 2014 free of any tie. Now a smart 2 bar pub with a lovely enclosed riverside patio pub garden with its bench seating, large umbrellas and excellent views of the River Usk and the Brecon Beacons beyond. Good Ales from local breweries were on and a good pint of Cwrw Haf from the Tomos Watkins brewery was had. I

They said they didn't do food when we called in recently.
The front bar seemed to have been smartened up a bit, and although it's still a bit sparse I've always found the ales first rate. There's a decent chippy almost next door too.

Sparse front bar with dartboard and TV (no jukebox) and rear function room. Breconshire Brewery's Ramblers Ruin, Golden Valley and Welsh Pale Ale.

Very nice Beer

Brewery tap for the Breconshire brewery. A recent visit was made even better when they were holding a beer festival. Good beer and a good welcome every time I have visited this good boozer.

Lovely pub, nice food. Pleasant bar staff. Beer garden is big and looks out over the river. Children welcome here so always a bonus.

Spent a few hours in here on a Sunday night; busier than most places would be. Pub has a late license (until 1am most nights I think). Outside seating overlooking the river is nice for sunny evening.
Ales were tasty and well-kept; as you'd expect from a pub that has won CAMRA awards relatively recently. Bar staff very friendly.

Kept to the front bar - 5 ales from Breconshire and ones had in excellent condition as you might expect from a brewery tap for the, er, brewery. Loud locals who were effing and blinding at the bar which detracted a bit. LL and staff very friendly and seemed passionate about the ale - shame they didn't consider asking the yobs to keep the ruddy language down.

A strange pub this one, we visited early in the evening, the small front bar was all but empty, the larger bar at the back seemed to be full of families watching TV or playing pool. We soon discovered that the only real beer was in the front bar. Not very welcoming or friendly, we had a pint and left.

The ales were very good here and the barmaid was welcoming, but there were 20 of us on a Saturday lunchtime so why wouldn't she have been!! Bizarrely someone was smoking in the lounge, which seemed like a living room full of the cast of the Royle Family. Not a bad grog shop at all.

The brewery tap for the Breconshire brewery. The 3 beers on tap were a Welsh Pale Ale, Cribyn and Golden Valley. There was also a real cider - Weston's Vintage. The front bar was quite cosy, whilst the back bar seemed to be more for games - both playing and watching, with a central pool table.

Popped in tonight. CAMRA winner from 2003 (I think, certainly 03 or 04)
Had 4 choices of Breconshire Brewery ales on, the two I tried were spot on. The bar is a wooden floor, traditional table/chair style in the front bar, with the back bar having a bit more character. Lovely pub, would like to see it at the weekend when busy though, as on a quiet night tonight I was glad the tele was on showing the football.

we called in this pub on a off chance after a long dog walk, as we were informed dog's are welcome in this pub, (unlike others in the town), hungry and thirsty we wanted a meal and a pint. We found the real ale choice more than enough and the beer temperature was just right, there is a pub garden to sit in, overlooking the river, and a varied standard food menu plus a specials board. We ordered off the specials board, and were overwhelmed by the quantity and flavour. Wow what a chef. The staff were very helpful and extremely friendly and so were the local customers. We wouldnt hesitate in recommending this pub to anyone who wants a good pint, a nice plate full of home cooked food, and a happy conversation to go with it.

that report of mine at 18Jan is rubbish. all that applies to the Old Bulls Head in Struet St. ..half-wit I am!
this place is ok too tho. nice condition ales...had the 'Ramblers Ruin' from Breconshire brewery, 5%...but too cold.
|
reported to have a good choice of ales, Evan Evans primarily. However.....the Fly Half at 4.2% and the Cwrw at 4.2% both from EE, were the same beer I swear it! not a good start....they were probably too cold to be distinctly tasty. quirky Landlord adds to the jollity.....playing some quality music too. friendly and helpful bar staff. good effort all round....

Excellent choice of ales, good food and an outside drinking area over looking the river.
